Title: Another Dolphin Makes the Pro-Bowl
Post by: Jim Gray on January 20, 2011, 11:14:39 am

Long snapper John Denney was a "coaches selection" for the Pro Bowl.

I would guess this is based on historical reputation. Then again ... with so many FGs I guess he really did do a good job. I don't think he blew one snap this year that I can think of and he had plenty of chances.

I honestly can't remember the last time he blew a snap.  Long snapper is one of those positions no one cares about until you have a bad one.

Props and congrats to Denney, the real unsung hero or the team.

It's always "interesting" to watch games where the long snapper gets injured. There's rarely a replacement and having the timing off on kicks can add a lot to an otherwise dull contest.

QFT.  If the long snapper's name is mentioned on TV during a game, something has gone wrong.  I would have to say long snapper is the position that is least likely to ever get recognition.

Randy Starks is now on the AFC Pro bowl team.

Replaced one of the Steelers, Keisel.

Do these players that get added to the team after the fact get counted as "pro-bowlers" officially?

Based on what I read elsewhere....

Yes,  Both the guys who originally named and the guys who play are considered pro-bowlers.  However if you are named as replacement and skip you are not.  I.E. if Wake is a no show he will still be considered a pro-bowler, however, if Starks plays he will be a pro-bowler, if he skips he won't be.
