Title: Heath Evans on the Brian Daboll hiring Post by: MikeO on January 22, 2011, 10:36:37 am These quotes say a lot. Ex-Pat and current Saints RB Heath Eveans who was in NE when Daboll was there.....
"The Dolphins probably just got worse," said Evans, who played in New England from 2005-2008 thus was there while Daboll was a receivers coach for Bill Belichick. " When he was in New England, he was never a guy I considered the brains of the operation. "Now, listen, obviously there's been a lot of growth from his stint with [Eric] Mangini. He probably learned a lot under [Mike] Holmgren over the last year he's been there with Clevleand. As soon as I saw it, I second-guessed the decision. A franchise that is really just struggling for success, why do you take an unproven commodity? ... I second-guess it ... In the coaching realm, I'm not sure that was the right decision for an offense that already lacks a lot of the things that it needs. Did Heath not like the guy? Is his statement here a reasonable one, or based on an emotional predisposition? 2) Heath Evans is a fullback...Daboll was the wide receivers coach. How closely did Evans actually work with Daboll? 3) What is Heath Evans' track record for accurately assessing coaching talent, and for projecting which lower level assistants will develop into quality coordinators or head coaches? In short, there's nothing like random opinions of former players to make a good soundbite. Unfortunately, there's not much chance of verifying the credibility of the comments or the impartiality of the source. Thanks for the two cents, Heath...but I'll wait to see how Daboll does as Miami's offensive coordinator before I start harshing on the guy based on your opinion. I think it "says a lot" more about Heath than Daboll. I mean why would a player from the Saints make a comment about the Dolphins (for whom he's not player for), about a coach that he hasn't indirectly played for in several years, and never directly played for. Moreover, why would any reporter be asking Heath about this hire anyways?? Reeks of alterior motives to me. "Patriots beat reporter remembers this one time a decade ago that Evans and Daboll barked at each other on the practice field or locker room over some little insignificant thing, and the reporter figured he'd be good for a negative soundbite that he can print about Daboll, now that he's coaching within the division again." was just in the studio for Outside The Lines and Heath was a guest on set. guy is a total D-bag, I could tell just by his body language and the way he talked. He clearly is going to be an analyst on TV when his career is over. he actually said on air, while talking about the Cutler situation, "I don't always want to love my wife or play with my kids, but i do it anyways" LOL Title: Re: Heath Evans on the Brian Daboll hiring Post by: Sunstroke on January 24, 2011, 03:24:07 pm I'm sure his family appreciated his honesty... ;) Title: Re: Heath Evans on the Brian Daboll hiring Post by: MaineDolFan on January 25, 2011, 01:08:39 pm I could care less what a less than middle of the pack journeyman RB has to say about anything. I don't know why anyone else does, either.

I hope I'm wrong about my feelings about this hire... as of now in my 40+ yrs of being a Dolfan I've never felt this low! Only thing that comes close is the death of David Overstreet who I loved when we got him as I followed him in college and the other would be our loss in the Super Bowl to the 49'ers. |
