Title: Vices: Gambling Post by: Dave Gray on January 24, 2011, 03:19:11 pm Do you gamble?
If so, when and how often? At home or only on vacation? What kinds of gambling? Sports betting, cards at friends house, casino/horses, etc? How much? What's your average bet? What's your biggest bet? Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: StL FinFan on January 24, 2011, 03:26:10 pm It's not a big thing to me. When I was in Vegas I played slots and table games a little bit. Mr StL is into table games but he has a set loss limit. Occasionally we will make token sports bets or join a football pool.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Pappy13 on January 24, 2011, 03:30:33 pm I don't like giving away money and when I gamble, it's essentially just giving away my money.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 24, 2011, 03:35:35 pm My wife and I are borderline addicts. We frequent Nevada a lot be it Laughlin or Vegas and at least once a week here at the local tribal casinos in Arizona. My wife is a slot junkie who has made a ton of money off the video poker machines. I remember one trip alone she won around $35,000 in a little over an hour playing $5.00 video poker. I like the machines to an extent but I am a table junkie. My favorite game of them all is Pai Gow Poker, I have been known to sit on a table for upwards of twelve hours. I also love Craps but I tend to overbet and not play as long as I would like. My wife has better luck on the craps table than I do. I have made a lot of money on Three Card Poker and I will only play Blackjack if it is the "Press Your Luck" versions which pays 10 to 1 for pushing with the dealers. I have made a quick grand playing this on numerous occasions in just under an hour.
On a side note we got married in Laughlin with 100 of our closest family and friends so yeah we might have a problem lol!!!!! Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Brian Fein on January 24, 2011, 03:42:28 pm I try not to gamble in casinos. Every time I do, I lose. I like to play poker but I refuse to play with "professionals," rather play with friends. I play lottery every now and then (I don't really consider that gambling), and I rarely wager on sporting events.
If I gamble I like it to be when I can make educated decisions to increase my odds of winning. Randomness like slot machines and roulette are not for me. Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Dave Gray on January 24, 2011, 03:53:42 pm I gamble occasionally, but never huge amounts. I will go lose 200 bucks at a casino, but it's money that I set aside for that purpose. That's my main amount. My per hand amount is dictated by a system I follow, but I start with $5 blackjack hands. I don't sports gamble, but I have. I used to bet $5 and pick 3 teams and if they all win, I win 50 or whatever it was. I will sometimes play the lottery, but it's not something I do normally. I don't like 100% luck games, generally. I prefer ones that have decision-making involved.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: bsfins on January 24, 2011, 04:16:38 pm I've played the lottery a couple of times in the past, but it's far from something I do on a regular basis....
Az- Pai Gow poker is really fun, I used to love to play on PlayStation, Caesar's palace game...way back when Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: fyo on January 24, 2011, 05:06:21 pm I'm in between the third and fourth categories. I place bets on sports regularly -- almost exclusively NFL, though, and not much in the playoffs, so I probably won't place another bet until September or whenever the league picks up again -- but only for rather small amounts. I'll typically set aside a sum for the whole NFL season and if I run out, that's it.
For me, it's more a way of increasing the entertainment value of the games, rather than actually scoring big (hard to do when the amounts are "rather small"). Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: TonyB0D on January 24, 2011, 09:09:03 pm only gamble if i'm at the casino, dog, or horse track, which is like once or twice a year.
no lottery, no other forms of betting. Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Lee on January 24, 2011, 09:28:48 pm I only play poker. I play quite a few tournaments and 1/2 or 2/5 cash games.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Buddhagirl on January 25, 2011, 10:06:02 am I'm too cheap to gamble.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Phishfan on January 25, 2011, 10:12:46 am Pai Gow Poker I was sitting with some poker friends a few weeks ago and we were talking about how it had been so long we couldn't remember the game. It is a split pot game, correct? I like to gamble. These days it has turned into friendly poker, lottery (yes that is gambling), friendly sports bets, etc. I use to wager larger amounts on football games (several a week) but don't do it anymore. Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 25, 2011, 10:32:09 am I bet frequently, but not big. Four times a week, I place a dollar on either Megamillions or Powerball.
First time, I went to a casino it was part of a work function. We had meeting during the day than the evening to play. Next morning over breakfast as people were swapping war stories, I casually mentioned I had fun, but quit after I lost six fifty. As my coworkers knew of my conservative attitude towards money, that I would gamble so much money and even more that I would be so nonchalant about losing a large amount of money. And it was met with a shocked coworker saying, "YOU lost six hundred and fifty dollars" I responded with a smile, "No, I lost six dollars and fifty cents. I had a roll of quarters for the slot machines but got bored after a while." We all had a good laugh. I have gone twice more and bet more. Once I won $450 playing "let it ride." I had budgeted to lose $100. The second time I lost $100 exactly what I budgeted. I will also toss $1-$5 into office pools for SB squares or march madness, etc. Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: SportsChick on January 25, 2011, 11:34:20 am Lottery, maybe some nickel slots if I happen to be in a casino. I also will do like SB squares or something along those lines
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Tenshot13 on January 25, 2011, 01:59:58 pm I play hold em at the Hard Rock. I've never lost money there.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 25, 2011, 02:03:24 pm It is a split pot game, correct? Not the version that I play. If there are other variations of the game that offer a split pot than I am not aware of them. Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: tepop84 on January 25, 2011, 02:06:48 pm I was sitting with some poker friends a few weeks ago and we were talking about how it had been so long we couldn't remember the game. It is a split pot game, correct? Pai gow is a casino table game that is really good for drinking. Low table minimums, a lot of hands result in pushes, and the house advantage is relatively low. Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: Phishfan on January 25, 2011, 02:40:44 pm I looked it up online. Split pot really isn't the term I should have used. Playing in a house game we use to have a side pot with an extra ante for the two card hand. No pushes in our game. Winner of the big pot (the betting pot) takes that hand and the winner of the little pot (extra ante) takes that one. The other rules appeared to be played the same.
Title: Re: Vices: Gambling Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 25, 2011, 02:44:36 pm ^^^^Sounds like an interesting twist to the game.
