These fans got screwed with the whole seating mess but to sue the NFL for lost income is a joke. The NFL gave them a FULL refund for Tickets, hotel, food, and flight. They offered them seats to ANY future Super Bowl. What more do these people want??? Now they want money for lost income!  It's not like the NFL told them to take a few days off and go to the game. I hope the judge throws this lawsuit out and gives these fans nothing. Some people always take it a little too far.

No, they didn't. There were quite a few strings attached to the Cowboys' offer, including limits on compensation. By definition it was therefore not a FULL refund, irrespective of your use of allcaps.

That said, I don't know the law well enough to have any idea of what kind of compensation the fans are entitled to.

There should be strings to some extent.  I mean what the NFL has to pay for every meal of these slobs from the time these people stepped out their door at their home. Thats insane!! Point is they are getting something in return BESIDES the tickets. And the NFL/Cowboys are really only obligated for refunding the tickets since thats all they are responsible for. And these people want lost income on top of everything else, give me a break.

I think the NFL was pretty fair to these people under the circumstances.  They could have said here's a reimbursement for the ticket and thats all you get.  I'm with **gulp** MikeO on this, the judge should throw it out, and maybe fine the fans for a frivulous lawsuit.

These people aren't the first in the history of Planet Earth to have a bad vacation or a vacation runied by circumstances they had nothing to do with. IT HAPPENS!! That's life! I feel sorry for them, I really do. But to sue over ticky tack crap and to ask for "lost income"....give me a friggin break!

Why do people make a big deal of these things? 

In theory I could sue MikeO for being offending by his nonsense posts.  Doesn't mean I will prevail or even survive a motion for summary judgment to dismiss. 

Very very hard to win incidental damages for something like this. 

I agree with the consensus here.  Yes, the NFL made a mistake.  However, I think that they've been more than reasonable in their compensation.  Mistakes happen.

When you put it that way, maybe Jones should be held liable in this, and not the NFL.

Well, not exactly.  Jerry Jones contracted out the work to put in the extra seats for the Superbowl. If you will recall, Dallas had a snow storm the week before the Superbowl, yes a snow storm. That's more than a little strange for Dallas, it happens once in about 20 years or so. Consequently it took the contracting firm a lot longer than expected to get the seats in. They actually got all the seats in, but some didn't pass inspection and therefore could not be used.  It's not exactly like Jerry Jones just went out and sold a bunch of tickets with no seats, he fully expected to have seats for everyone.  He doesn't control the contracting firm that was putting the seats in, nor the inspector who inspects them and finally he doesn't control mother nature who ultimately was responsible for the seats not being available for the game.

Jerry has done a bunch of stuff to cause people to dislike him over the years, but here he got caught up in circumstances. It happens.

Now if Jerry would have paid the inspector a little cash to approve the seats and the seats would have collapsed in the middle of the Superbowl, THEN Jerry would have been a very bad guy.
