Title: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 06, 2011, 10:00:11 am I don't know if any of you have ever played this contest on MLB.com. I have been doing it for a few weeks, so I figured I'd make a group and invite people...
Brian has invited you to join the following Beat the Streak Group: TDMMC The password to join this group is: marino Beat the Streak is a free and easy game on MLB.com that challenges fans to put together a 57-game hitting streak and compete to win $5,600,000. All you have to do each day is pick one player who you think will get a hit. If the player gets a hit, your streak continues. If the player does not get a hit, your streak ends, and you can start a new one the next day. Join this group and start playing now: http://www.mlb.com/enterworkflow.do?flowId=fantasy.bts.btsloginregister&forwardUrl=/mlb/fantasy/bts/y2011/index.jsp%3Fcontent%3Djoin_group%26mode=join%26gid=14522%26pwd=marino Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 06, 2011, 10:57:08 am In to win.... ;D
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 06, 2011, 05:21:32 pm I am in as well.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 06, 2011, 05:23:37 pm I have a season-high 4-game streak on right now, but the standings don't show it. You can make picks several days in advance so there's no need to log in every day.
Also, I recommend you set your "incase I forget" guy incase you forget to make a pick, it will default to him. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 06, 2011, 05:36:22 pm ^^^
I just finished both thanks for the heads up. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 15, 2011, 10:20:51 pm Wow, talk about a way to get a win...Brandon Philips...0 for 3 and intentionally walked once.....Bottom of the 9th,2 outs man on first...2 run walk off home run against the Cardinals! For the Win!.....
This is almost as frustrating as Streak for the cash, but fun! :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 18, 2011, 03:04:54 pm My streak got busted yesterday because I had Ryan Braun and of course he doesn't start but he pinch hits in the 9th and goes 0-1. That kinda pissed me off if they don't start it shouldn't count, but whatever it's not like it was a huge streak by any means!!!!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 18, 2011, 03:50:04 pm ^^ If he didn't play it wouldn't have counted. but the fact that he pinch it, it counts.
I can't seem to get more than 2 or 3 in a row. How the hell do you get 56? Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 18, 2011, 04:15:40 pm I got Bit by Braun also AZ.....I found out he was out, about midway through the Cubs game...Then saw I lost... :'(
Go Adrian Gonzalez! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 18, 2011, 04:26:59 pm I can't seem to get more than 2 or 3 in a row. How the hell do you get 56? I was wondering the same thing....I guess if it were easy then the grand prize would not be 5.6 million!!!! I think I have Konerko today......time to start a new streak!!!!! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 18, 2011, 05:38:10 pm I have Konerko today too. Seems like a solid pick.
I wonder if we all pool our resources, maybe as a group we can come to a consensus to build a streak and share the grand prize... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 18, 2011, 06:23:34 pm I don't think I'd be much help in a group...I can't get past 3....I like the idea of taking a player that's playing divisional teams,if they have a good record against a pitcher they face a lot.I feel the chances are higher that they can at least get 1 hit....I guess that works both ways though too...
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 18, 2011, 06:25:25 pm I have a very particular strategy when it comes to picking guys. Its not rocket science, and definitely not fool-proof. It requires about 5 minutes of research each day.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 18, 2011, 08:07:13 pm I'll give it a shot...what the hell. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 19, 2011, 01:56:24 pm First bat for me in this game...going with Jacoby Ellsbury today. Hopefully it will be the start to a monstrously long 57 game streak. ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 19, 2011, 02:07:58 pm I'm taking AZ's boy Ryan Braun tonight. Let's hope I have better luck.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 19, 2011, 02:40:53 pm ^^^^Don't do it....I picked him twice and he got no hits.
(Ok honestly once he didn't play and it didn't hurt me and the second time he pinch hit and went 0-1 to bust my streak but still...... ;)) I went with Melky Cabrera today so we will see how that pans out. Welcome to the fun Stroke and good luck!!!! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 19, 2011, 02:42:00 pm I wonder if we all pool our resources, maybe as a group we can come to a consensus to build a streak and share the grand prize... I would be happy to share with you boys if we could knock out a winner. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 19, 2011, 04:19:25 pm I took Casey Kotchman against Bartolo Colon....It seems like when I take the Yankees in Streak for the cash they screw me, so I thought I'd pick against them!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 19, 2011, 06:01:35 pm ^^^
Agreed.....I refuse to pick anymore Yankees......at least this week!!!!! ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 19, 2011, 08:50:43 pm It's funny...when I made my pick for Jacoby Ellsbury, I used a specific method where I sorted all MLB hitters by how many hits they've had in the last 7 days, then overlaid the batter-vs-pitcher history, and picked a hitter (Jacoby) who was currently hot and has a great record vs that pitcher (Guthrie). When I made that pick for the game, I noticed that Jacoby had the little oval icon next to his name, calling him the "MLB.com pick of the day." When I made my pick for tomorrow using the same method a few minutes ago, lining up Hanley Ramirez against Harang, sure enough...that is also the MLB.com pick of the day. So, at the very least, I guess I've figured out how they come up with their pick o' the day already. ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 20, 2011, 09:28:20 am They have 4 picks of the day each day, and they tell you why.
Today: Joey Votto Cincinnati Reds .545 5-year AVG vs. opposing starter Hanley Ramirez Florida Marlins .391 5-year AVG vs. opposing starter Paul Konerko Chicago White Sox .333 5-year AVG vs. opposing starter Alberto Callaspo Los Angeles Angels .556 5-year AVG vs. opposing starter Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 20, 2011, 03:26:41 pm I picked Nick Markakis today, because Andrew Miller's 0.303 BAA and Nick's 2nd-best-on-the-team BA.
So far he's 0 for 4. Andrew Miller gave up 2 hits in 5 2/3 innings. :( I wonder if i can make a second pick for the night games to get back on the horse Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 20, 2011, 03:29:20 pm and My ""I don't like to be just like everyone else.....and take the easy way out...." is why I try not to take those picks...
(and also why I suck at this...) :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 20, 2011, 03:34:06 pm Guess I could have picked Ellsbury today as well...dude's jacked two HRs already in this game. Come on Hanley...daddy needs a new pair of cleats! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 20, 2011, 03:50:51 pm Do I get bonus points for for Adrian Gonzalez going 4-5? :D Sounds like a good idea,it seems like the only way I'm gonna make it to 10
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 20, 2011, 04:05:02 pm Melky went 2-4 last night with a dinger to keep me going.
I had Adrian today as well....I will take the 4-5 and keep my streak alive into tomorrow. I usually pick my guess based on their success in recent times against their pitching foes. I spend very little time on it because I hate overthinking something that will most likely come down to luck anyways. I have picked a few of their picks of the day but not by using their list....just by well luck I guess. I wonder if i can make a second pick for the night games to get back on the horse I do not believe this to be the case. I tried this once before and it would only allow me 1 pick for the day even though it was an early game and was complete before 6 other games had started!!!!! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 21, 2011, 02:19:37 pm uh-oh...Travis Snider is 0 for 3 after 7 innings, and with Toronto holding a lead, it looks like he may not get another AB in this one. Doubly bummed, as I have Snider on more than a couple of fantasy squads as well. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 21, 2011, 03:35:59 pm I have Johnny Peralta going today....
(I am still pissed about the Braun Pinch hit......I would have a nice streak going if it were not for that BS!!!!!) Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 21, 2011, 03:46:26 pm I took Elvis Andrus....and in when of the rare times since we started this...His first at bat got a double....I got me hit early...
woohoo...For me it was worth a small woohoo... :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 21, 2011, 05:51:17 pm I took Daniel Murphy against the Cardinals, and he choked off an 0-for-4 day. Good thing I was already at zero.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 21, 2011, 08:17:03 pm woohoo...For me it was worth a small woohoo... :D In the pursuit of linguistic bliss, let's call that a "wee woohoo." ;D On the streak...I have Carlos Lee lined up for tomorrow. He has tons of ABs against Zambrano, and a pretty steady history against him. Hopefully he can squeak me out a hit to get a new streak started. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 22, 2011, 02:57:14 pm Peralta was solid yeserday with 3 hits to match my longest streak to date @ 4. Today's choice is Michael Young come one #5!!!!!!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on July 22, 2011, 04:43:48 pm I'm on the Michael Young bandwagon as well.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 22, 2011, 05:39:00 pm Wee woohoo for the minor miracle of a Cubs win....Booo Castro screwing me 0 for 4 with an RBI....
Peralta was solid yeserday with 3 hits to match my longest streak to date @ 4. Today's choice is Michael Young come one #5!!!!!! I don't think we get colored stars in this streak... :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 22, 2011, 06:08:55 pm ^^^^
No we don't but I may add some just to make myself feel better!!!!! ;) Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 23, 2011, 11:22:36 pm Well, AZ nice job on the 6th in the row....and the ONLY person today to get one right...As Hunter Pence,Andrew McCutchen,Aramis Ramirez, and Mike Stanton all failed to get a hit....
Welcome to the group Sportschick.... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on July 24, 2011, 02:31:12 pm I was cursing stanton from about 30 feet away from him at the game last night
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 25, 2011, 03:19:53 pm Reached 7 in a row last night (only 49 more for 5.6 mil lol) with another Michael Young selection. Going for #8 today with Matt Holliday. Let's keep this streak alive.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 25, 2011, 05:28:57 pm The whole group all picked players from 2 teams...Boston,and St. Louis.... :D 2 for Ellsbury,1 Scutaro,1 Pujols, and 1 Holiday....
I'm just trying to get back to back wins...I work on an actual streak next month! :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 25, 2011, 07:28:01 pm I'm just going to pick Emilio Bonifacio every day the Marlins play between now and the end of the season...yeah, that's the ticket. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 27, 2011, 05:23:37 pm So far that Bonifacio would be working out quite well for you.
I have extended my streak to 9 and I picked my boy Andre Ethier tonight for #10. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on July 27, 2011, 05:43:00 pm I hate the Yankees. That is all
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on July 27, 2011, 09:24:05 pm Brandon Phillips got me heading the right direction again...now hopefully Pedey can stretch his streak to 25, and mine to 2, tomorrow. ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 28, 2011, 02:31:03 pm Well that figures.....the first time I pick one of my Dodgers in this damn thing and he goes 0'fer to kill my streak. Ethier has owned Cook and yesterday goes 0-4 to stop my streak at 9!!!!! :'(
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on July 28, 2011, 03:00:06 pm My Suckitude knows no bounds... :D
No Blue Star for Az...I'm shocked at how easy he's made it look.... ;D ;) Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on July 28, 2011, 03:34:48 pm ^^^

Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 01, 2011, 01:39:47 pm I'm happy to see I'm not the only person that has gotten F'd by picking Robinson Cano...I think I've picked him 2 or 3 times....He's gone 0 fer every time.... :P
I'm just looking to get past three....That damn three.... :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 01, 2011, 03:27:46 pm ^^^^That is Ryan Braun for me....0'fer every damn time I pick him.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 02, 2011, 12:40:34 am Whew...Ichiro was 0/4...but squeaked out a late single to keep my streak alive at 6. Chase Utley for tomorrow. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on August 03, 2011, 10:09:17 am Okay, I have a nice little streak going. a whopping 4 games. I don't know how anyone will ever reach 56
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 03, 2011, 10:11:56 am Someone once got to 49. This season the highest was like 25. 56 is impossible. Their money is very safe.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 03, 2011, 10:21:33 am Dear Chase Utley, You suck! Sincerely, Sun I am guessing this was your streak buster lol......Utley and Ethier can eat shit!!!! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 03, 2011, 11:06:37 pm Ellsbury waited until his 5th and final AB tonight to get the hit I needed to start a new streak, but any hit is a good hit by me... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on August 04, 2011, 10:28:59 am and it was a good one too

Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 04, 2011, 03:36:29 pm Jose Bautista played a day game today...and ripped an early HR for ya. Longoria also hit a dinger for me... Big flies all around! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on August 04, 2011, 03:41:00 pm It was still listed as a green lock, so I didn't realize it was get away day for them :) I'll take my 6 and run with it :)
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 04, 2011, 07:22:47 pm Since it seems silly to have two Streak threads... Props to Brian in the "other" Streak game, for being the first in the TOP 50 group to light the red star on the 5-streak. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 04, 2011, 07:46:06 pm Wow 5-0 to start the month....nice work.
By the way is it really the same 5 people that are actively participating in ESPN the same 5 for the MLB? Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 04, 2011, 10:06:14 pm And my beat the streak is back to Zero....The only stater not to get a hit...Even the Pitcher hit a 3 RBI double....
The Cubs did sweep the Pirates in Pittsburgh in a 4 game stretch, which hasn't been done since 1958..... By the way is it really the same 5 people that are actively participating in ESPN the same 5 for the MLB? Yup... :D Congrats Brian... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 05, 2011, 04:12:18 am By the way is it really the same 5 people that are actively participating in ESPN the same 5 for the MLB? Hey AZ... Brian and Lil_B have also joined the ESPN TOP 50 group for the other Streak game, just to be in a group with a lot of active streakers. You're more than welcome to join us if you'd like. You don't even have to leave the TDMMC group, as it lets you do multiple groups. Hit me with a PM for the password, if you're interested. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 05, 2011, 12:30:32 pm I hate having a 4 game winning streak in streak for the cash,I've only hit the red star twice. So I start second guessing every, and talk myself out of my pick...
I'll take the Reds for my red star....and Micheal Cuddyer to start for the beat the streak.... :-\ Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 05, 2011, 01:41:55 pm Hey AZ... I hate having a 4 game winning streak in streak for the cash,I've only hit the red star twice. So I start second guessing every, and talk myself out of my pick... My best ever was 11 in a row but most of it was bullshit luck picking soccer and shit I know nothing about lol!!!!!Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 05, 2011, 01:44:52 pm 11 is my all-time best as well...and it is the only time I've cracked double digits in that game. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 05, 2011, 01:46:30 pm Did you have any BS guesses in that streak like me or were your picks more stable for a lack of a better term?
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 05, 2011, 02:48:51 pm As I recall, I swerved like a drunken idiot between reasonable picks and wild-assed guesses... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 05, 2011, 02:50:05 pm LOL I almost think you have to in order to build a decent streak even though it is rather risky!!!!!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 05, 2011, 03:48:48 pm 6 in a row now. I figure if I can pick one game a day and get it right I'll be a hundred-thousand-aire come September!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 05, 2011, 04:13:46 pm I have thought about taking that approach a few times as well but then I get bored and want to guess at 3 different games in one day.......fail!!!!!! ;)
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 09, 2011, 04:23:36 pm In the MLB Beat the Streak Sportschick has a nice 8 gamer going and I have a 7 gamer alive and well. I have Adrian tonight going for the BoSox to move my streak up to 8.
In the ESPN....yeah I suck.......that is all. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 09, 2011, 04:39:42 pm In beat the streak I'm having problems getting going....O-dog let me down lastnight....
Tonight I have Casey Kotchman, against K.C..... The streak for the cash, I hate picking soccer,90% of the time I don't even know what league, and or country it's playing....Let alone have an educated guess of who's going to win. :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 09, 2011, 05:27:49 pm ^^^^
I have the same problem with the soccer picks. I don't know didly squat about soccer nor do I care too as there are umpteenthousand teams from places I did not even know existed. Too hard to track yet I still find myself having to pick soccer matches when it gets to mid month and I need a couple of wins a day to try and catch the leaders. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on August 09, 2011, 09:32:17 pm Unless Vernon Wells pulls a rabbit out of his hat, I'm done at 8 - gotta love my past two days - DNP and rainout
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 10, 2011, 12:07:05 am Brian,Sportschick, welcome to Lil B's beat the streak loser's lounge.... :D
(as we all lost tonight) :'( The thing that kills me about my pick, I second guessed myself...I picked Longoria, then saw he was only hitting .225,and went with Kotchman Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 10, 2011, 07:40:26 am Pedroia with 3 walks yesterday to go with the 0 for 2...damn, Pedey, swing the bat already dammit! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 10, 2011, 09:31:57 am Oops Sorry Stroke, You're welcome in Lil B's loser's lounge also...(It only had zeros by Sportschick,Brian and I when I checked last night)
I think they need to rename this game to...Press your luck...with the 0 for Whammy...Come on,big hit, big hit,big hit...No whammy,No whammy....Ahh shit an 0 for whammy... :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 10, 2011, 11:43:51 am I loved the little "whammy-monster" graphics that they used on that game show. It also inspired the cliche' that pretty much everyone in my family uses regularly... "Come on, big bucks...no whammies!" I'm rolling with the Yoda of Hitting today...Michael Young. Start a new streak, I must! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 10, 2011, 12:19:28 pm I'm gonna start picking Dan Uggla so that this nonsense will end.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 10, 2011, 12:53:31 pm Adrian came through for me to lead me to #8 now I have a no-namer in Gerardo Parra from the Dbacks tonight to tie me with my best streak at 9. Wish me luck. Also if the Phillies can go ahead and kick my Dodgers ass yet again today that would give me the Red-Star in ESPN as well. ;)
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 10, 2011, 09:10:50 pm Going with a new pick method...sorting all hitters by "most hits in the last 14 days" and then laying the BvP for this season and career on top. The one nearest the top that gives me the warm and fuzzies gets the nod. First hamster on the wheel...Ryan Zimmerman tomorrow. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 10, 2011, 10:45:47 pm Woohoo red stars everywhere! I used Az as a lead blocker, and got over the dreaded 4 win hump with Milwaukee's win over St. Louis....
(I still suck in Beat the streak)...When you have a streak of zero, a push is just as bad as a loss... :D Stroke,a word of warning, I read through the rules when we I first joined, you might want to rethink that Ryan Zimmerman pick...from the rules tab Quote Double-headers In the event that a player you select (including any Jumpstart Pick) plays in a double-header, your streak will only continue if the player gets at least one (1) hit in both games in which he plays that Game Day unless all the selected player's plate appearances (one or more) result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. For the avoidance of doubt, in the event that a player you select gets at least one (1) hit in both games of a double-header, your streak will continue, but your streak will only increase by one (1) hit for that Game Day, and not two (2) hits. NOTE: Except as set forth in the Suspended Games section below, only hits officially scored as hits in 2011 MLB regular season games will be counted as valid hits in the Contest. Zimmerman would have to get a hit in both games....Take the second guy on your list... ;) Thought I'd pass along the heads up.... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 11, 2011, 08:02:24 am I'll definitely avoid using players involved in doubleheaders...but not sure what that has to do with Ryan Zimmerman. The Nats-Cubs aren't showing as having a doubleheader today. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 11, 2011, 09:39:50 am The Cubs Nationals game got rained out Monday,I thought it was double header today.... :-[ :'(
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 11, 2011, 09:46:26 am The Cubs Nationals game got rained out Monday,I thought it was double header today.... :-[ :'( Yeah, the Monday game got rescheduled for today, but it was because both teams would have been off today. No double-dip action, thank goodness. It's actually pretty hard to sneak a doubleheader past me, as I do the Baseball Challenge game on ESPN as well, and any time there is a doubleheader, I load up on hitters from those teams to try padding some extra at-bats... ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 11, 2011, 01:45:22 pm It looks like I put the Whammy on AZ,in beat the streak....Bad sign for him,we both picked Miguel Cabrera....
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 11, 2011, 02:42:02 pm Ryan Zimmerman wasted no time...first inning HR to get my streak back to 2. Tulowitzki against Lohse for tomorrow... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 11, 2011, 04:21:42 pm It looks like I put the Whammy on AZ,in beat the streak....Bad sign for him,we both picked Miguel Cabrera.... I have tied my BTS best at 9 and yes I have Cabrera going tonight but I think of it as a positive for you my friend as opposed to a negative for me. ;) I guess we will find out tonight. I did get my Red star in the ESPN only to promptly have my streak busted with my very next pick. >:( Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 12, 2011, 01:19:10 am I thank you Az...I feel like Count von Count of Sesame street....One Ha,Ha,Ha... ;) :D
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 12, 2011, 04:16:32 pm LOL glad you got to 1!!!!! ;)
New longest streak for me with 10 and Matt Holliday going tonight for the Cardinals. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 13, 2011, 11:30:38 am 2 Ha,Ha,Ha,.... :D I might go all Martin Gramatica,if I actually make it 5! :D....I've got Bourn today against my crappy cubbies...
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 14, 2011, 02:03:33 pm I made the mistake of not getting a pick in for yesterday, ending the modest little 3-streak I had. Then, for the whipped cream on top, the guy I picked for today, Kotchman, gets rained out. Yeesh... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: SportsChick on August 15, 2011, 12:11:23 pm My app wouldn't let me change my pick yesterday so I got stuck with the demoted LoMo
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 15, 2011, 03:43:33 pm My streak currently stands at 13 with Victor Martinez as my pick tonight!!!!!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 17, 2011, 10:19:29 am SEX...Err Six...Yes....6...in Beat the streak... :o :D
I'm thoroughly impressed with Az's 15...Congrats! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 17, 2011, 10:39:21 am That 15-streak is definitely impressive... I'm at a gargantuan 2-streak currently...need Tulo to swat me to #3 today! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 17, 2011, 02:22:25 pm Thanks gentlemen....I have Konerko going tonight which scares me after his 4-6 effort last night but I refuse to overthink and change my pick so bring on#16!!!!!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 17, 2011, 05:42:14 pm In the other streak game, I've amazingly hit on back to back soccer picks today (Saints be praised!). Going with 2 more soccer picks to wrap up the day...may as well stay on the ball. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 17, 2011, 06:53:02 pm ^^^^That scares the hell out of me. I picked a soccer game this morning because my 4 streak got busted yesterday and I walked away with the victory, just to turn around and lose it on another baseball bet. I would not be able to pick 4 soccer games in one day however so props to you if you can go 4 for 4. I would not have been able to get 2 right lol.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 17, 2011, 07:26:19 pm ^^^ Word, I only pick soccer out of desperation....
Personally my goals, playing streak for the cash....Most wins per month,(and still have a good winning percentage) With the longest streak....I seem to do ok with wins the past couple of months, and done ok with the winning percentage, but just can't get a very long streak... I also tend to hit a little spiral near the end of each month...Win one, Lose one,Win one,Lose 2,Win one Lose 3,Win one, Lose 4...Type of spiral... In Beat the streak, I've got Kinsler going tonight for Lucky 7's baby! :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 18, 2011, 01:22:45 am Paul Konerko = Buzzkill Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 18, 2011, 02:22:45 am I'm 10-2 in soccer this month. Soccer = easy.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 18, 2011, 06:08:58 pm Paul Konerko = Buzzkill Fucker I knew the production from the night before was going to kill me.....streak over :'(!!!!!! Starting a new one today hopefully with Zimmerman. I'm 10-2 in soccer this month. Soccer = easy. Do you follow the sport? Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 18, 2011, 06:40:34 pm Streaky side story... If you look on the overall leaderboard for this game today, you'd note that the longest current streak is 37. The next highest is 34, and it slowly works its way down the list. If you get to the #8 spot, there is a sight to behold. Pretty much all of the people on the leaderboard have dominant A-list hitters as their selection today. Guys like Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Braun, Zimmerman, Pablo Sandoval, etc... All except for #8, that is. #8 is an entry named "finelin33," who currently has an amazing streak of 27 going. Today, finelin33 is risking that amazing streak on... Xavier Nady That's right, Xavier effin' Nady. So I ask you...can you imagine having a 27 streak going and clicking the select button for Xavier Nady? I have a vivid imagination, and I cannot fathom having a 27 streak and thinking "Yep, Xavier Nady...now THAT's my guy!" I find myself wondering whether we're witnessing a man who has balls the size of Winnebagos, and antifreeze running through his veins...or a man with a vast swirling emptiness where his brain ought to be. When you consider that: * Nady is hitting .248 this year as a part-time player, and * 3 of his last 5 games have been one at-bat pinch hit appearances, and * He's facing a pitcher (Worley) that he's never seen before... ...I might lean toward the vast emptiness theory. One thing for sure - For the first time since he played for my Padres in 2006, I'll definitely be cheering for Xavier Nady tonight. ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 18, 2011, 07:17:48 pm Isn't he on the DL with a broken hand now? I thought that to be the case and I thought he had been on there for at least a week or so if memory serves me correctly.
Either way no way in hell would I put my eggs and 27 games on Xavier Nady that's for sure!!!!!!!! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 23, 2011, 11:21:08 am Woohoo....A box of Donuts.... :D
I read Strokes Story, and thought....While I agree with not picking Nady,It might not be the worst thing,If he doesn't play...It's a push...It's risky.....Apparently He's still winning,he picked Nady yesterday and still has a streak of 28.... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 23, 2011, 04:42:29 pm Currently I have a streak of 1 in MLB and 0 in ESPN...... ::)
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 23, 2011, 11:04:35 pm ARGH! I picked Freddie Freeman,he got the night off, then came in in the 8th didn't get an at bat...but I'm 99.9% sure cost me my streak in beat the streak... >:( :'(
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 24, 2011, 10:39:11 am ^^ shouldn't cost you a streak unless he gets an at-bat.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 24, 2011, 11:31:07 am Wooohoo! I'm not dead yet.... :D
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 25, 2011, 11:25:02 pm and I thought it was over,Holiday was 0-4 Bottom of the 8th....Needing people to get on for Holiday to get another at bat...He comes to bat hit's a 3 run homer...Boo-yah
The last three night have been hell...Freeman coming in late, Aramis luckily getting a homer scoring decision to not charge Chipper Jones on trying to bare hand the little dribbler and Holiday tonight.... :D I need to go buy a lottery ticket... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 26, 2011, 02:24:46 pm After my nice run I have not been able to get more than 3..... :'(
I am glad you are finding some success B!!!!!! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 26, 2011, 02:45:56 pm I've gone into "San Diego Padres Offense" mode lately...I pick one player who gets a hit, and then the next four whiff. Then I get another hit, then 4-5 more whiffs. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 26, 2011, 06:31:20 pm Thank you Az,I'm Going with Casey Mcgehee for the tie with you tonight...He seems to kill the Cubs...

I pick the Rangers, they lose, I pick the Angels...they lose... Both the Rangers, and the Angels can kiss my hairy white ass....that is all ....Thank you.... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 29, 2011, 11:54:47 am I picked Adrian Gonzalez 3 days in a row (by default by not logging in) and he had hits three days in a row. Anyone wanna tell me why my streak is 0?
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 29, 2011, 12:03:15 pm I picked Adrian Gonzalez 3 days in a row (by default by not logging in) and he had hits three days in a row. Anyone wanna tell me why my streak is 0? What is this "default" you're referring to? The default setting is "no player." If you didn't specifically click on Adrian Gonzalez for each of the three days, then he wasn't active. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 29, 2011, 12:23:47 pm What is this "default" you're referring to? The default setting is "no player." If you didn't specifically click on Adrian Gonzalez for each of the three days, then he wasn't active. there's a setting where you can pick a dude to be your "incase i forget to make a pick" guy. I picked Adrian GonzalezTitle: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 29, 2011, 12:37:10 pm ^^^ My bad...I hadn't even seen that feature. Revised answer = "no fucking idea." Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 29, 2011, 12:43:19 pm Your jump pick only works to a streak of 3,if you have a streak Larger than 3,or don't make a pick your streak ends....
From the rules... Quote Jumpstart Pick At any time during the Registration Period, you may designate any player from the Active Player List to be your default player selection (the "Jumpstart Pick") for up to a three (3) game hitting streak. Your Jumpstart Pick allows you the opportunity to build a streak on Game Days you don't make a selection. Once your streak is at three games (3) or more, the player you designate as your Jumpstart Pick will no longer be counted towards your streak and your streak will reset to zero unless you select player(s) that get at least one (1) hit in each subsequent Game Day(s). Your Jumpstart Pick will not be counted as your player selection on any Game Day(s) you select a player (for example, if you designate Albert Pujols as your Jumpstart Pick but manually select Jose Reyes to hit on a particular Game Day, Reyes will be counted as your selection for purposes of the Contest). You may change your Jumpstart Pick designation at any time during the Contest Period. Important Note: You must select a player each Game Day; if you fail to make a pick for any Game Day(s) on which your Jumpstart Pick's MLB Club is not scheduled to play, your streak will reset to zero unless you pick another player who gets a hit on any such Game Day, so be alert! Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 29, 2011, 03:11:49 pm I find it funny that it says I did not make a selection on Thursday when I know for a fact that I did. It did not hurt me becuase I was already at 0 but if I had built up a decent streak and it did that I would be livid. Either way I am currently sitting on a 3 gamer in BTS and 5 on ESPN SFTC!!!!!
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on August 29, 2011, 03:40:30 pm So I should have a 3 game streak today, when I went to make my pick. Did the Sox have a doubleheader yesterday?
Edit - nevermind I see what happened. I had a 3 game streak and missed the pick for the 4th day. So I went back to 0. F. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 31, 2011, 01:47:04 pm Well, my mobile nakedness abounds, as I have streaks going in both games. Ryan Braun will try to get my MLB streak up to 5, while the Russian hoops team needs a 15+ point win to get my ESPN streak up to 9. I sure would love to get the blue star there this evening...I've only had one blue star ever in this game. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on August 31, 2011, 03:55:13 pm 2 consecutive 0'fers in BTS and I lost my ESPN Streak @ 7 or 8 last night......back to 0's for both!!!!!
Good luck with the blue star Stroke. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 31, 2011, 06:46:43 pm I was just here to tell Stroke to "Break a leg"...Apparently those Ruskies failed him...Sorry....
Yeah I'm doing my end of the month swoon in Streak for the cash....I got my Beat the streak out of the way early today with Alex Gordon...I'm picking them a few days in advance, and check to make sure they don't get injured/benched....Then taking a page out of AZ's playbook, and Don't change the F'er! :D Question...... I'm going to go through some hardcore with drawls at the end of baseball season, from my Crack habit of Streak games all summer....Is there something like "Beat the streak for Football"...So I can come down somewhat gradually? Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 31, 2011, 09:51:40 pm Question...... I'm going to go through some hardcore with drawls at the end of baseball season, from my Crack habit of Streak games all summer....Is there something like "Beat the streak for Football"...So I can come down somewhat gradually? ESPN has the following football games for the 2011 season: College Challenge - Assemble weekly roster of college players from all NCAA or specific conference, no budget College Pick'em - Pick 15 college matchups each week, confidence or straight versions College Showdown - Prop bets with weighted values Gridiron Challenge - Assemble weekly roster of NFL players within budget Pigskin Pick'em - Pick the NFL matchups each week, spread or straight versions Eliminator - The classic Survivor game...pick one winner each week, can't use the same team twice Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on August 31, 2011, 10:50:24 pm Well the college stuff is out, the closest thing to following college football is following where Dorial Greene-Beckham decides to play, then following him (I pray he doesn't go to Nick Saban and Alabama)...I still want to see him play this year, since he plays here in town,he's right down the road....The problem has been last weeks game was on ESPNU and in Joplin, his next game is at the University of Arkansas...Sorry started to ramble on there.... :D
Grid iron challenge,is that like the playoff challenge thing we've played before on NFL.com? That sounds kind of fun... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on August 31, 2011, 10:54:58 pm ^^^ Yeah, the one where you build a roster with individual players each week. It's definitely one of my favorite ESPN microgames (Baseball Challenge is #1). Here is a link to the game... http://games.espn.go.com/gridiron-challenge/en/frontpage (http://games.espn.go.com/gridiron-challenge/en/frontpage) You're more than welcome to hop into the ESPN TOP 50 group as well. password is same as it was for the streak. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 01, 2011, 11:10:17 am Could we do a TDMMC group too..... ;D
Oddly,I picked my MLB Beat the streak pick a couple of days ago,and have been losing confidence each passing day....He's had atleast a hit going back to August 23,today Micheal Morse will go 0fer :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 01, 2011, 02:05:59 pm ^^^ Sure we can...but do you really think we'll have more than 3-4 TDMMC'ers that will follow through on the game all season? Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 01, 2011, 03:42:19 pm Looks down sheepishly, shakes my head side to side... murmurs quietly under my breath "no...." :-[
I like to be able watch how the people here, the people I know, are doing quickly.... I didn't create a group for TDMMC,I don't have the link to the nifty TDMMC banner we use for streak for the cash, and I couldn't think of a motto.... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 01, 2011, 06:07:40 pm That Gridiron Challenge looks kind of interesting. I may check that out.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 01, 2011, 10:39:54 pm Always glad to have you guys in the T50 group... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 01, 2011, 11:17:41 pm Thank you Stroke....
For shits and giggles I created a TDMMC group also....Password MARINO (all caps, the name also....) Perhaps we ought to tell the rest of the board about this? :D This year...I'm the Hillbilly kickers union.... Idea that didn't make the cut...Redneck Czonkers.... I shall join the top 50 group now... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 02, 2011, 02:51:01 pm I don't remember the password for the Top50 but I joined ours.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 02, 2011, 03:30:32 pm Thanks Stroke for the password I am now in the Top50 as well.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 14, 2011, 05:26:57 pm The MLB beat the streak is winding down...Brian seems to have the best streak going, and probably the best chance of catching AZ with only a couple of weeks left in the regular season (I'm assuming it's not going into the playoffs)
Streak for the cash, has been a little bit of a bitch for everyone this month...No red stars in our TDMMC group....I've gotten to 4 (twice now),but had no conviction in the pick for 5....come on D-backs.... Good luck to AZ,in going for the star.... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 14, 2011, 05:36:36 pm Yeah I had another 9 gamer in BTS but lost that over the weekend. In ESPN SFC I had a nice 8 game.....losing streak I was happy to break finally on Sunday. I am hoping for the Red Star tonight and I am pulling for the Angles to get the victory with Weaver on the mound.
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 14, 2011, 07:46:56 pm Congrats there Az, you got your red star...Winner,winner chicken dinner..... :D
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 14, 2011, 09:11:26 pm You and I are both going for our red stars tonight, B...but only one of us can get it. I went with Kershaw and the Dodgers against the snakes. My healthy man-love for Mr. Kershaw is still going strong. ;-) Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Brian Fein on September 14, 2011, 10:32:28 pm I've been having a rough month is Streak but I have managed to piece together a nice little run in BTS. I wonder if it keeps up....
Edit to add... F@#$%^%@K! Joey Votto screws me with 0-for-3 night. F you, Votto. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 14, 2011, 10:48:34 pm I don't mind as long as one of us gets a star, my luck freak rain storm cancels the game, and we get a push.... :D
I'm watching the game, Waiting for some fireworks after Parra's brush back, then Homerun.... Sorry to see your streak end Brian...I lost my little streak of 2 after Pagan went 0 fer... Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 15, 2011, 08:51:35 am Congrats Stroke on your Red Star!
I thought my chances went up dramatically when Kershaw got tossed...Hope had returned....for a bit... :D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 15, 2011, 04:11:24 pm Hey B I was pulling for you to catch me in the BTS sorry about the Votto Bust.
Congrats to you as well Stroke.....I too thought B had it locked up when Clayton got tossed and had he not threatened to bean Parra the night before it would have probably been no big deal. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 16, 2011, 07:38:17 pm Congrats to Sportschick on her red star.....Sorry a little slow today....
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 16, 2011, 11:30:01 pm A whole lotta 0's tonight in Beat the streak...Only Stroke got a hit with Omar Infante.....
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 20, 2011, 12:37:50 am Got my MLB streak up to 7... If you took out the three days recently where I totally spaced out making a pick, I'd have a 13-streak going. Ifs and buts, beer and nuts...party time. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 26, 2011, 12:11:02 pm Congrats to Stroke on his dozen wins in a row with beat the streak, makes for an interesting final 3 games to see if he can tie AZ,for the longest winning streak with 15....
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 26, 2011, 01:45:08 pm When Philly sat Pence the other night, I swore at my TV, since I knew that meant the best I could end up with was a tie with AZ at 15 for the longest streak. ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 26, 2011, 05:57:40 pm Good Luck to you on your impressive run Stroke.
I wonder if the streaks continue over to the next season like it does in MLB? Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 26, 2011, 08:01:41 pm ^^^ nah... I wish. ;D Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 27, 2011, 11:30:49 pm And Stroke's Amazingly magnificent streak continues into the final day of the season.....I have to admit,I'm most impressed by Strokes current streak, with call ups,and resting players for the playoffs....I think it's a quite a feat....
Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: Sunstroke on September 28, 2011, 12:00:28 am I've got BJ Upton going tomorrow. I figure the Rays will be going all out for the wild card, and Upton's been red hot this month. Title: Re: MLB Beat The Streak Post by: bsfins on September 29, 2011, 12:36:50 am That 15th game is a bitch, and she got me too.... ;D
That was half a season....Gotta remember to start at the beginning of the year next year.... |
