Sorry didn't see on the botom, It's not a rumor..Update: The Dolphins have announced they have signed Johnson and cut offensive lineman Ray Feinga. Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: Dave Gray on September 08, 2011, 12:54:52 pm Strange.
I am glad to have a guy like Larry Johnson, but I don't see where he fits on the team. He's only going to be in on a few snaps and likely have no involvement in special teams. Odd. Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: bsfins on September 08, 2011, 01:12:38 pm He offered to play special teams before he was cut....I see him as the goal line guy, inside the 10 yrd line when we want to run the ball in

Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: Brian Fein on September 08, 2011, 02:02:15 pm He's depth so that Hilliard can run at FB full time.
Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: Frimp on September 08, 2011, 02:06:51 pm and insurance for Bush/Thomas
Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: Doc-phin on September 08, 2011, 02:10:18 pm and insurance for Bush/Thomas Agree. He looked good enough in preseason to justify this move. Sounds like he is a bit humbled now as well, so not the locker room cancer or risky move he used to be. Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: hordman on September 08, 2011, 02:17:01 pm Armando says that Daniel Thomas is hurt, reason for the larry re-sign
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/ (http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/) Well, because rookie Daniel Thomas is injured. And he is not practicing. The Herald's Jeff Darlington is reporting Thomas yesterday tweaked a hamstring injury he had earlier this preseason and so the club felt the need to buy insurance for Monday night's regular-season opener against the Patriots. Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: fyo on September 08, 2011, 04:50:54 pm Hmmm... neither Daniel Thomas nor Larry Johnson have looked impressive in preseason. Sucks if Thomas misses opportunities to develop, but I doubt either puts fear into the hearts of opposing defenses.

Sucks if Thomas misses opportunities to develop, but I doubt either puts fear into the hearts of opposing defenses. I can understand if you say that Johnson did get much preseason play time and we can't be sure how he looks but to say he didn't look good??? I don't get it. Plus, I don't really care about fear in their hearts. I care about filling a role. I am sure the Pats don't really have fear in their hearts over any running back short of Adrian Peterson or one of those top tier guys. I am sure Mendenhall (Steelers) or Starks (Green Bay) wouldn't put fear in the hearts of opposing defenses and they are both starting backs on Championship teams. Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: fyo on September 08, 2011, 07:35:20 pm I can understand if you say that Johnson did get much preseason play time and we can't be sure how he looks but to say he didn't look good??? Yeah, he didn't get a lot of time. His 2 runs for 7 yards was all he got against starters. Against scrubs in the last preseason game, he looked like crap until breaking out that one big run that got everyone gushing. It's not unthinkable that Bush will miss time due to injury this season. I hope not, but he hasn't exactly been the picture of health during his career so far. If that thrusts Thomas or Johnson into the role as starter, yeah, that's cause for a lot of concern, IMHO. As I said, neither looked impressive in preseason. Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: tubba marxxx on September 08, 2011, 08:16:00 pm I don't feel good about the running game..Henne makes or breaks the season this year imo
Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: MikeO on September 09, 2011, 07:06:54 am The running back situation is not looking promising right now. I mean we are $12 mill under the cap and we took Bush (who I like) over Bradshaw and Deangelo Williams. When we CLEARLY had the cap space to get a legit every down back. We could have front-loaded a deal with either of those guys, not totally hurt our salary cap for the next 2 or 3 years, and brought them in and not have these issues.
I hope we made this move because Thomas is injured in some way and from reports its a hamstring issue Thomas is having so I hope that is the reason. Because if we did this move because the coaches see nothing in Thomas at this point we are in trouble. Because if we did this move because the coaches see nothing in Thomas at this point we are in trouble. The team is saying its due to injury, but they could claim that regardless. What makes it likely to actually be true, IMHO, is that they cut Johnson in the first place. It's not like they got any NEW information on Thomas' potential since that. Bringing in someone you just cut makes a lot more sense if the reason was simply an injury. As I've expressed before, I wasn't impressed by either player, but I certainly HOPE they do great! Preface - This is all assumption on my part. I was kinda thinking they didn't play Johnson much in preseason to keep him under the radar a bit and planned on letting him go to hopefully sign him after week one. In case someone doesn't know, when you sign a vested veteran after week one their salary isn't guaranteed but if they are on your roster for week one it is guaranteed. So I also agree that the injury is likely true. Even if my assumption is correct, they obviously didn't feel like they had the luxury of waiting it out. This is also a statement about Hilliard. You have to conclude that this staff only sees him as a last resort running back with spot duty at full back and primarily a special teams player. How long does a guy like that stick around? IOW if Thomas is healthy this weekend, Larry gets cut again... Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: MikeO on September 12, 2011, 06:07:17 pm Thomas OUT tonight vs Pats.
Will be interesting to see if Hilliard or LJ gets more playing time tonight at RB. I would think Hillard, but Lex might be playing FB so maybe LJ gets more touches Title: Re: Dolphins re-sign Larry Johnson Post by: MikeO on September 13, 2011, 06:55:28 am Fins are working out RB Brian Westbrook and 2 others.
Looks like LJ's days are over. |
