Tom Brady and Chad Henne combined for the most net passing yards (906) in a game in NFL history.

Not a bad night for the Michigan alumni association, quarterback division. 

It sucks to lose, but it was nice that the game wasn't boring.  I for one think it sucks worse when you lose and do it in boring fashion.

If I wasn't a fan of either team, I think I would say it was a very good game.  Great strategy and execution by the Pats and great fight by the Phins.

Hopefully this doesn't discourage our staff from being aggressive offensively.  I don't think it will, but any time you lose and give the other team a record setting day you gotta wonder if the coaches start to look in the wrong places for modifications.

I look at a game like this and think that there's just no way that we could've won it.  Even if we'd played perfectly, we'd have only tied them.

We may be a good team this year.  Even in that ass-whipping, I'm still somewhat hopeful.  We played against a guy who led a no-huddle offense for an entire game.  He's (in my opinion) the best QB in the history of the game, in his prime, breaking his own records.  What can you do?

I would agree.  Not many teams can win a shootout with NE.  Peyton Manning can, Drew Brees can.   Henne not so much.  Dolphins aren't gonna beat the Pats in a high scoring game. Low scoring game they have a shot. 

I wouldn't quite put it that way. I would say that when you have a guy of Brady's caliber and he's "on" his game the way he was, Dolphins don't have much of a shot. I think we could have won a high-scoring game, but not when Brady was red hot the way he was, even if we scored 50, I think he would have found a way to score 51 on this night.

Brady was only "on" his game because he had enough time to have a picnic, grow his hair out, and sing the star spangled banner before throwing the ball.  Thank his o-line (and in part the Dolphins' defensive front-7) for those 500+ yards.

I was also thinking that Henne's run yards should be considered as well.  I think he had around 59 yards running.

Plus, both interceptions were off of tips (of sorts).  So yes, it was a very good day for the Michigan QBs.  Unfortunately, only one could win which automatically makes it a bad day for one of them.

I agree completely. Way too much is being made of Brady's record game.

The game was tied 14-14 in the 3rd quarter. At that point both our weak-ass corners had to start coming out due to cramps and Brady proceeded to kill us.

Brady was on his game, because he's great.  He had protection, but even when he didn't, he moved in the pocket, made plays, and didn't make mistakes.  You don't throw for over 500 yards without being on your game.  I don't care how bad the defense is.  The guy was a surgeon and picked up apart flawlessly for an entire game.

At some point, you just have to come to terms: He's that good.  The NFL has changed the rules so that he's not afraid of getting hit, he's the best ever, and there's nothing we can do except hope that he makes mistakes, which he doesn't.

^^ Easy with that "best ever" crap...  But that's a debate for a different thread.

Not saying Brady's not a good QB, but if you give Matt Leinart THAT much time to throw, he will have great games as well.

Be a very odd stat record. 

The stat here is total yards passing by both teams. 

Had either team used a back up QB or had a wildcat in which a WR or running back make a pass or if there was a lateral and then the RB or WR made a pass that would have all counted in this stat. 

Now think back to when White was on the team under your proposed stat would run by White count in the total?  Yes, no, only if Henne had came out of the game? 

Too confusing to add the rushing yards of some players to the passing yards to all players for a total.

I really mean "considered" in terms of fans' impression of the game.  I know it really isn't stat that should be remembered for all time.  But in this game, the QB that passed for all those yards also ran for all those yards and it seems a bit of a disservice to just negate that they ever happened.

Another way of saying it is that when we look at the stat of passing yards we are really looking at QB performance.  Both QBs combined had a record performance.  But was running with the ball not part of the QB performance?

Again, not looking to modify the stat line.  Just saying it shouldn't be a forgotten element of the game.  Maybe the stat line could have just as easily been for total yards by Henne and Brady.  I am sure that would have been a record too.
