Yes, I KNOW Miami is 0-2, and there's a lot of woulda-coulda-shoulda's regarding missed field goals and dropped passes. My confusion lies in the assault by so many people on Henne. Henne didn't miss any field goals; he didn't give up 61 points in two games and cause the D to be last in the league. After week one, I didn't see anyone saying that he was a quality starter, even though he led the team in passing AND rushing against NE, and became the first QB in aqua and orange to go over 400 yards NOT named Marino. After the Houston loss, though, quite a few people are calling for his head....again. If you can't judge his entire season based on a great week 1 performance, what kind of logic is there in judging it by a poorer week 2 performance? From EVERYTHING that is out there, he improved vastly in the offseason as a QB, so you can't go off of what he did last year- that was last year, and yes players DO improve. Unless he starts throwing the ball to himself, so he can drop red-zone passes (ahem....Marshall...), and starts playing both sides of the ball so he can get burned in the secondary, it's still only two games. And despite what anyone thinks, he DOES rate in the top ten in passing yards and TD's from quarterbacks. The POV of many people here confuses me.

On another note, if anyone can tell me why we punted on 4th and 1/2 yard from our 20, and on the very next series attempted to go for it on 4th and 19, again at our 20, that'd be just swell! -EK

Thoughts on above:

1. When you're a starting QB in the NFL, this is what you can expect. When the team wins, the starting QB is awesome and gets the credit. When they're losing, the starting QB is a loser and should be fired. It's just how it goes.

I sure hope Henne led his team in passing - otherwise there would really be a problem there!

3. In regards to your "logic" question, it's a regression against a weaker defense. Henne threw for over 400 yards partly because Tom Brady was lighting it up from all over the place, so Henne had to match (not a lot of running game there). Against a weaker team, he re-appeared as the same-old Henne.

4. It's funny that you complain about the fact that people are griping over "only 2 games" yet you point out that Henne rates as a top ten passer in yards and TDs. You realize those stats are only after 2 games, right?

5. I'll answer your last question: Sparano is not a good clock / game manager. He doesn't do well in important / tight situations, like 4th and 1/2 from the 20 yard line. Down 2 scores with 7:00 left, if your team can't get 1/2 yard, then you're screwed anyways so you might as well go for it.

I thought about starting a "Good job Henne" type thread, but I feel like any judgement should be reserved for beyond just a couple of games.

The guy has been pretty good overall.  I got just as frustrated as others with the overthrows in the endzone, but there have been a few that he threw well enough and Marshall should have gotten the job done down there.

Two picks in two games and both were not really his errors.  Normally, you can win with play like that.  As we have already beaten to death, our defense didn't get it done.  Throw in two ridiculous missed field goals, a fumble at a bad time and Marshal not delivering in the end zone and you got yourself two losses to good teams.

side note-

I just hope Marshall isn't destined to be one of those guys that gets tense in the red zone.  I have a few friends that watched him a great deal while he was in Denver and they seem to feel he was good in the middle of the field but once you get to the red zone he somehow just doesn't seal the deal.  He has the body type for being a primary red zone target and I can only imagine that they will continue to try and force the ball to him.  If he doesn't step it up a notch, he may become more of a distraction from scoring than an actual scoring threat.

And don't get me wrong, Marshall has been pretty awesome to watch so far.  But he has to realize that points are priority number one.  Really loved the way he pushed Jason Allen into the endzone.  Really want to see more of that kind of play when the goal line is plainly in view.

EKnight, there are 3-5 members of this forum that will hate on Henne no matter what.  They have lately been VERY vocal since last Sunday.

Don't let their loudness and chirping fool you into thinking that the "majority" of fans agree with them.  In fact, most reasonable and objective fans I've spoken to lately agree with you.

EKnight.....great post and I feel the same way. I has been two games, I don't give a shit what he did last year or the year before. In those two games I have seen improvement and I hope like hell it continues for the remainder of the season. If not....great then we move on but he is our only option right now so let's get behind him and hope for the best.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand THIS is what I'm talking about. Whether the team wins or loses, 475 total yards of offense and 3 TD's is awesome. Give credit. As for the "weaker team" statement, the Texans are #1 in the league in points allowed, #1 in the league in passing defense, #1 in the league in total defense, and 2-0. How is that a weaker team? Their defense is not just a little bteer, but significantly better so far than NE. Do you even watch the games or do you just go off of what you think happened?? -EK

Henne wasn't good last week vs Houston. If he makes a play or two in the redzone the Fins win. He made no plays in the redzone. The Henne I saw last week was the Henne I saw all of last year. He doesn't put touchdowns on the board. Especially when it matters. PERIOD! One good game vs NE doesn't change that.

Week 1 he was good, no doubt. But last week Henne was bad.

Still falls back to the coaching....in that this young QB has played at the mercy of an OC (Henning) last season that was unable to change an offence that had had success with the Wildcat for 1 season and once the rest of the NFL caught on, could not reply with a solid gameplan.  So, now in year 4 of Hennes career, he is stuck with the same lousy Head coach and a new OC.

Yes, the results have been and A and a D in the 1st 2 games, but the guy has been handcuffed under this regime.

Henne, is never going to be a top 5 QB, but I still think he can win under the right leadership.

P.S...I still like him better than Sanchez!

He suffers from the same fatal flaw that his 14 predecessors suffered from.

He is not Dan Marino. 

Sanchez has it easier.  He is the best QB the Jets have had since Namath, and Namath was good not great. 

  thats bullshit. the reason henne isnt accepted is because he is in the bottom 10 of the starting nfl qbs.  if he improves his peak is 10-15th best qb in the league.  no reason to put up with his suck when his value will never be good.

Agreed w/ tepop. This has nothing to do w/ Marino (at least personally). Those predecessors suffered from lack of talent. It'd be nice to see consistency (on a good scale) instead of flashes of brilliance.

Why do you need your QB to be top 5 in the league?  Marino was that.

In a league with Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, and others, why will YOU, the fans, not be satisfied unless the Dolphins' QB is in that realm?  Why is it not good enough to be 10-15 in the league if you have cogs around him to support.

Another TERRIBLE game by Henne today. Red Zone and once again he does nothing.

Henne is a bad QB, period. Week 1 this year was the exception, not the rule!! The guy can't lead a TD drive or do anything in the red zone.

Calling out EK - Today's game @ Browns is why there is all of this "assault" on Henne by so many people.

henne is an awful qb.  he takes unnecessary sacks because he is too stupid to read a defense. cant do anything in the redzone bc he is too stupid.  and under pressure he is terrible. last 5 passes in a close game today 0-5 with a pick. awful awful. hopefully the new coach cuts his stank ass.

What about the o line? Why can't we run it in? Yeah, Henne is bad in the red zone, but maybe the o line and running game needs to be better.  I don't know. Need a new set of personnel somewhere.

well yeah, when you don't win and are 0-3 there is a lot of blame to go around. Starts with Head Coach and QB. They both stink.

The o-line sucks too, but what does that have to do with Henne not making a play in the redzone? On plays he has time to pass he makes horrible passes and bad decisions. He isn't very good. Put Henne on New England or GB and he still sucks! Period!

henne just doen't make any plays when it matters. 3rd downs, redzone, 2 minute drill,... nada

its one thing to be an average qb, totally different thing to be an average qb that makes absolutely no plays to help your team win. say what you want about dirty sanchez, but the guy just makes plays when they matter to help the team win.

It's a shame that the team hasn't been able to pick up the slack, namely the defense because Henne has shown improvement this season. He still sucks in the red zone and he can't lead a 4th quarter drive to save his life, but all the other times he is pretty solid.

LOL, yes! Luck is the next superstar QB. He might not "light it up as a rookie"......but within a year or so he will be a star. The kid has the brains, the arm, the attitude and can actually move a bit and has legs. They don't compare him to Elway/Peyton for nothing. He is a superstar!

How Massaqoui catches that above Wilson and Bell is beyond me?  Double coverage and the guy still sneaks in 5 yards behind Wilson and to the right of Bell. 
Henne wasn't great either (when it counted most), but our defence was soft on that final drive.

I really think we have a shot at the number 1 pick.  KC was a little better and Minnesota still has AP...our biggest competition could come from St.Louis

and Indy. The good thing for us is Indy and Jax will play each other twice. If they split they each have one win at worst. Miami's ONLY winable games are KC and Denver. Considering Denver is at home, thats a "LOSS"....KC is our test. If Indy can win 2 or 3 somehow and if KC can 2 or 3 somehow...we have a shot at the #1 pick.

Luck in Rd 1.

IN rounds 2 and 3 we need CB, OLB, TE and target those positions depending who is on the board and such. (Yes I am talking draft in September)

It sucks to be thinking like this, so early in the season....BUT, it is a very realistic hope for any kind of a future for the FINS.  We need a stud QB...and not a Palmer type free agent splash.

A young kid, under a new regime and hopefully this team is there in 2 or 3 years.

I see your point, but we have been cheering for the Dolphins WHILE they lose for a long time now. So, while I will not be rooting for interceptions and fumbles, I will not exactly be crushed if they go 1-15 again either. IMO, the season is already done.

Calling me out?  Henne was 15/17 in the first half with almost 200 yards and a TD. It was AFTER that when our coaches decided to play conservative, "we're going to run the football, no matter what" football that we lost. I suppose Henne gave up the TD with 43 seconds left? Missed the FG that would have put us up 9? Blew coverage, and got an offside penalty that kept the winning drive alive? As long as you're calling me out, how about responding to the fact that the Texans D was the best in the league against the pass when you said they were worse than New England? News flash- just because you say it's so, doesn't mean it is. -EK
