Jorge Sedano is having this grand discussion about who the next Phins coach maybe and callers are commenting on the usual suspects....Cowher, Gruden, Jeff Fisher.

no re-treads.  these guys are removed from coaching waaaayyyy too long to be worth the hassle and the bullshit & the excuses that they will come up with when they dont get it done right away in MIA

at the end of the season and when Sparano is canned, we need to look at a young, innovative, enthusiastic guy who can bring some excitement to this organization.

I dont want some talking-head from CBS or ESPN who's been fat & happy for the last several years making money 2nd guessing everybody on Sunday and Monday afternoons.

I'm STILL pissed at Jimmy Johnson, should have stayed retired and not set this organization back 4-5 years like he did and ruin the last years of Marino

Hate to break it to you but I bet we go after a name. Ross seems to be short sighted and I think number one he will look to sell tickets. I wouldn't be surpised to see Lil Wayne calling plays for Ashton Kutcher next year. 

As much as I have not liked things our previous owners have done I seriously have no faith in Ross. Nice guy with great intentions maybe but he hasn't done anything to show he can run a football team. 

I say replace Jeff Ireland with Scott Pioli.  The chips are down in KC and they have no QB.  If you can't get Pioli to come to Miami, see if you can pluck Eric DeCosta out of Baltimore.  He's a young guy who has been with the Ravens since their inception in 1996 and is really the braintrust behind GM Ozzie Newsome's personnel decisions. 

As for Sparano's replacement, I would give serious consideration to either Pete Carmichael (New Orleans O-coordinator) or Joe Philbin (Green Bay O-coordinator).

That Kutcher is an offensive mastermind...

If Ireland goes, is there any chance Ross brings in his friend Carl Peterson? (I'd be fine with that).

I'd also be fine with a 48-year-old coach by the name of Jon Gruden.

Cowher has a Super Bowl ring and went to many Conference Championship Games
Gruden has a super bowl ring (possibly 2 if not for the "tuck" game)
Fisher went to a super bowl and has been an elite coach for over a decade

A re-tread is Jim Hasslet, Gregg Williams, Marty Mornhinwig...etc. When you have won a ring and had lots of success in the league, you aren't a retread!

All 3 would clean up this mess immediately.  Would welcome anyone of them...although Cowher would seem to bring the most fire and attitude that most Fin fans have been wishing for.

I don't think Cowher is going anywhere unless it's the perfect situation for him.  I'm intrigued by Fisher.  He's a leader of men, which is something this team needs.  I would like to have Rob Ryan as HC just to screw with Rex. >:D 

But I don't think it matters who the coach is until Ireland is fired.  He's clueless.

Cowher is going to the Giants. They can offer him the most money and he has a QB who already won a super bowl. More attractive team than Miami.

Fisher or Gruden could be on Miami's radar though

All I have to say is Jimmy Johnson (lots of SB rings and NCAA ring) and Bill "Almost There Since 1991" Parcells in response to you.  WE'VE HAD THESE TYPES OF COACHES BEFORE

Bill Cowher is fat and happy in the booth.  4-5 yrs removed from the game.  he came into a situation where the city & team of PIT responded to his style and hard work.  we DO NOT have that in the city/team of MIA

Gruden is smart, talented, no doubt.  again, the money these guys make NOW, as opposed to having to put in long, grueling hrs for football and for about the same $$$, the passion would not be the same.  COUNT ON IT.

the key words in all of this is "FINS FANS".  this would not translate over to the players

I don't want Cowher.  I am so sick of run, run, pass, punt that I would rather stay with what we have than to go back to that.

Cowher doesn't fit.  He's an old style of coach that will have trouble building a team in the new NFL.

I don't want someone who's already had a storied NFL career.  I want someone hungry, with new ideas.  I want the head coach from Boise State...something like that.

Say what you want about Jimmy and Wanny... they at least got this team to the playoffs on a regular basis.

It's pretty early to say this but I think "former Dolphin coach" Will Muschamp will be an NFL head coach in a few years. I read today that Saban said he made a mistake by not giving him the Defensive Coordinator job of the Dolphins but instead to Dom Capers. He also had some other great things to say about him.  I won't name drop cause Phish will call me out ;) but I heard some really good things about him from one of his close peers.  It seems like there are some respectable people out there who think he is special.  Of course all he has to do is go out and prove it.

to me muschamp seems like a college guy. i think the nfl folks are just cut from a different cloth. for today's nfl game, all the work u put in doesn't amount to a hill of beans if you can't get the right qb in place.

in college, all you have to do at a place like florida is recruit and you can practically roll out 9 - 10 wins a year without even working at it. given the salaries are what they are now for a head coach at florida, too cushy a gig to want to jump into the nfl firepit.

dolphins need to build an identity from a pool of nfl guys. on sedano's show the other day he mentioned the director of scouting for green bay. relatively young guy, 51, doing that role for green bay for the past 15 years. get that guy as gm, let him pick a young offensive minded coach that runs a system the new gm has been successful in finding players for (say west coast style). let said gm draft a qb like landry jones now perfectly suited to run that style (stroke pointed me to an article making a strong case for landry as #2 qb in draft, perfectly suited for west coast).

the parcells blueprint is broken for today's nfl. need to build the team differently and it starts with getting the right gm.

To be fair Parcells was NEVER the coach in Miami. I think it's clear that Parcells is a better coach than VP. Maybe whomever wouldn't let him pick the groceries was right.

And JJ and Parcells weren't re-treads either. Say what you want about both but they weren't re-treads

I understand that Parcells didn't coach the Fins, but he left before the job was finished or even 2/3rds the way done.

what I was trying to convey was that MIA has a habit of going and getting a flashy name. whether it's a coach (Johnson), a player (the list here is endless), a top-tier exec (Parcells), etc and it NEVER works out.

Look at the top teams in the NFL and see how their organizations are built, top-to-bottom.  there's a not a buzz about the people there until they have cemented themselves as consistent winners.

we believe in getting former winners to fit the final piece of the puzzle.  doesn't work that way, at least, it doesn't in MIA.

until we get the correct people in the upper tier of this organization, we will flounder on the field.

Jimmy Johnson made the playoffs every year but 1 he was in Miami. Who wouldn't sign up for that right now. Please, your argument and stance is silly. Really silly.

He also screwed this team up on offense by taking away Marino's strengths and drafting John Avery over Randy Moss and Yatil Green over Antowain Smith and Corey Dillon.  Not only that, but he set the stage for Wanny to come in and run this team into the ground.

Marino was a shell of his former self. Taking away the audibles I didn't agree with. But focusing on the running and not letting Dan throw it 40 times a game was the right call.

Wannstedt won us a division title and had us in the playoffs or on the brink up until his final year when Ricky left. Once again, I would take the Wannstedt years in a heartbeat right now. We are so far removed from Wannstedt years its not even funny now. Wannstedt never had us as a total joke.
