Title: I wish this would happen
Post by: tubba marxxx on November 08, 2011, 09:11:54 pm
AFC East:
New York Jets
New England Patriots
Buffalo Bills
Baltimore Ravens

AFC North:
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns
Indianapolis Colts
Cinicinnatti Bengals

AFC South:
Miami Dolphins
Tennesse Titans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Houston Texans

AFC West:
Oakland Raiders
San Diego Chargers
Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs

NFC East:
New York Giants
Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Redskins
Carolina Panthers

NFC South:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Atlanta Falcons
Dallas Cowboys
New Orleans Saints

NFC North:
Chicago Bears
Minnesota Vkiings
Detroit Lions
Green Bay Packers

NFC West:
St. Louis Rams
Arizona Cardinals
San Fransisco 49ers
Seattle Seahawks

I understand that the Rivalries are a huge factor as to why this would never happen.    It would still pretty neat for the NFL to be geographically correct

idk, I'm bored an came across this on Facebook, wanted to see if anyone else had an opinion, or even ever thought of this

The NFL will NEVER take the Cowboys away from the Redskins, Giants and Eagles. Never in a zillion years.  Those 4 teams would revolt and the owners would be rioting in the streets!

They can take Miami away from the AFC East and put them in the south. No-one cares about playing the Dolphins anymore, we're not in the 1980's.

I don't have any problems with this alignment. F "tradition". A total of 3 teams change places in the AFC and a total of 2 teams swap places in the NFC. Not a big deal.

Aside from the division names, why stick with geography?

I wouldn't like this since I live in Upstate NY.  At least now I can go see the Fins play in Buffalo, NE, NY and occasionally Philly, I would probably have to become a Bills or Giants fan if they moved out of the AFC East.

Rivalries are still a big factor, so no. I wouldn't be in favor of changing anything. Even if teams suck, the rivalry is still something to watch.

Seriously? That is some loyalty right there. They do have this new invention that allows people to watch games not broadcast in their local area.

I wouldn't hate this.  I think that having teams play geographically would be kinda cool.  You could travel to watch your team play if you wanted to.

Plus, it would cut down on unnecessarily large travel distances.

Rivalries would be hurt, yes, but new ones would form.  Also, I don't think that Dolphins/Jets would matter any less.  Those teams hate each other, regardless of where they are in the division alignment.

Opposed.  I like the rivaleries.

Ultimately, I would probably choose against this if I were the NFL, but I personally wouldn't care too much.

I like the rivalries too. Indy was the right choice to take out of the AFC East because they didnt fit in with the hatred that goes on between Miami, NY, NE and Buffalo. They were like the nice family who lived in a bad neighborhood. lol

It's kind of hard to make the argument that IND was out of place in the AFCE, given the whole Brady-Manning thing over the last 10 years.  They are at least as relevant as BUF.

Agreed.  Plus in our direct situation I think it would make some cool/interesting new rivalries.  Baltimore v.s. New England twice a year would be pretty sweet.  Or how about Rex facing his former Ravens twice a year.  Miami v.s. Jacksonville in a battle for AFC Florida "dominance."  And let's give the Dolphins a few more chances to FINALLY beat Houston. As far as the NFC east goes, they would have a field day with hating Cam Newton for the next decade.  Dallas v.s. New Orleans could be a pretty sweet new rivalry I think as well. Who knows.

Again, this would never happen.  But it's cool to talk about I think.

I agree about the Manning/Brady thing but it wasnt a factor at the time they made the changes.

Wouldn't it just be easier to change division NAMES, than change rivalries and moving teams all about? -EK

The Indy/NE rivalry wasn't hurt by moving divisions, though.  That rivalry is stronger than it's ever been, and that came after realignment.

True but imagine how much bigger it would have been had they remained in the same division, playing twice a year.

I'd be much more in favor of this if we went back to 3 divisions per conference instead of 4.

AFC EAST
NE, NYJ, Miami, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Buffalo

AFC Central
Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Tennesee

AFC West
Denver, SD, KC, Oak, Houston

NFC EAST
NYG, Philadelphia, Carolina, Washington, TB, Atlanta

NFC Central
Minn, Chicago, GB, Detroit, St. Louis

NFC West
Seattle, SF, Arizona, Dallas, NO

^^^ That just begs for two expansion teams. And I see you've nicely left room for an LA team ;-)

Deep down I was thinking 4.  NFC West: LA, NFC CENTRAL: Oklahoma City.  AFC Central: Birmingham AFC West: Utah

Hahah... Yeah, I just did a 36-32=2. That's impressive...

6 teams per division was of course what I meant. Maybe I should look into getting some tuition money back ;)

6 teams per division would require an 18 game schedule.

It didn't from 99-01, when there were 6 teams in the AFC Central.

You're presuming that the schedule must be as logical and well-crafted as it is now.  It wasn't in the past, and it doesn't necessarily have to be so in the future.  That being said, the 4x4 division scheduling is one of the single best management accomplishments in the history of pro sports (IMO), which alone is enough to immediately disregard any talk of realignment back to 3-division conferences.
