Title: Stop discounting what the Dolphins are doing
Post by: Brian Fein on November 23, 2011, 03:39:42 pm
...just to support your misery and desire for overhaul.

I see a lot of people saying:

"The teams they beat are the bottom of the league."

That's true, but they aren't squeaking out wins here.  They are demolishing these teams.  Like any good team should.

No TD's allowed in 3 games.  I don't care who you play, that's impressive
Combined 86-20 score in 3 games.

If they were narrowly squeaking out wins 21-20 against KC, then fine.  But, this same Buffalo team beat the Patriots.  The same Washington team that took Dallas to OT last week (and should have won).

Give them credit where its due.  They are playing well.  I don't know how who they have to beat before you stop discounting the team for doing something good.

Whoever wins the NFC Championship.

Haven't you noticed  that anyone who fails short of winning the Super Bowl is wide open to computer criticism? In fact many super bowl winners get their share too.  I wouldn't get too caught up in looking for people to change their mind. Fact is most have already made it up and only look for things to support their position.

^^ I guess that's what bothers me.  No one keeps an open mind.  People who decided 3 years ago that Chad Henne sucks can't observe improvement.  They just stick to it, even if its not true.

People need to understand it is a dynamic sport, and people change, improve or regress.  What you saw 5 weeks ago may not be true now, or 5 weeks from now.

The Dolphins are playing well, and I'm not wetting my pants and thinking Super Bowl here, but I recognize that today's Miami Dolphins are vastly improved over the week 2 Miami Dolphins.

Seems that I'm alone on that one, though.

Brian, the problem is that this improvement has come about two weeks too late to matter.  Now, the only thing it accomplishes is reducing our chances for real, sustained improvement.  Oh, that and "pride"; the same kind of "pride" we felt in 2003 when a meaningless string of out-of-contention wins kept Wanny on the job for another year (see: your other most recent topic).

See, I don't feel that it is meaningless.  That's your opinion.  I disagree.

Excellent Post Brian......I have been happier than a pig in shit with these 3 victories. Destroying the Bills on Sunday was epic and put me in a great mood. The team has been playing great and you are correct....not allowing a TD in three straight games is a damned good feat I don't care who you are or who you play.

Spider-Dan is about right with how I feel. I'm excited that the team won and won in convincing fashion. They're finally playing like I thought they should be playing starting this year. But, even though they've been winning, it's pretty meaningless in the regard that it'll probably put us in mid-pack for a draft choice. It isn't meaningless because of the "pride" because it shows the players aren't laying down even though the season is more than likely over.

Pure conjecture.

Go ahead and get ready, though. If Miami wins tomorrow, it'll be all, "Romo had turkey in his eye," or "Miles Austin was still hurt." Some people are never satisfied. -EK

Pure conjecture.
In sports, there are exactly two kinds of discussions:

1) analysis of what has already happened
2) conjecture about what will happen

Well, strictly speaking, it's not meaningless; if these late wins allow Sparano to keep his job, I'd argue that they are actively detrimental.

From a historical viewpoint, how did you feel about Wanny keeping his job after the 2003 season?

I'm sorry Brian, but this defense was up against two teams that were one dimensional and banged up on offense (KC and Buffalo), and a third team that flat out sucks (Washington).

If they don't allow a TD at Dallas, with all the weapons they have on offense, then my eyebrow will definitely go up a notch.

If Miami wins tomorrow it will be impressive as Dallas is a playoff caliber team. But coming off back to back 7-9 seasons. Then an 0-7 start this year you can't give this team and franchise credit for 3 good weeks I'm sorry.  This team and coaching staff has been miserable for 3 years that doesn't go away in 3 weeks beating KC, Washington, and Buffalo. (they didn't beat Buffalo at home last December and possibly get to the playoffs when the game mattered; beating them when your 2-7 and the season is over I can't get excited about.)

And I sure as hell am not giving Chad Henne credit for the fact when he plays Miami was in the middle of a 10 game losing streak with him under center. He was the there for the majority of it. Then when he is out and Matt Moore takes over they win some games and look better.  IF that isn't a clear sign that Chad Henne can't play I really don't know what you people are watching every Sunday afternoon.

I enjoy the wins as they're happening and it's fun to see them play well but if we end up with 7 or 8 wins this year and Sporano keeps his job that would be a mistake. Like MikeO says, three weeks doesn't make up for three years. We are going nowhere with this coaching staff and management and need a change.

You haters kill me. lol I hope Miami keeps Sparano, doesn't draft a #1 QB and they go all the way next year. That would make it really fun watching you guys preach gloom and doom all the way to the end. lol

Of course. But we have a few people around here who think the season started Nov 1st and Sept and Oct don't count. It's comical.

I don't understand why some "fans" want to win about 5 or 6 games this year, don't care about getting a QB this draft, and keep the coaching staff that has sucked for 3 years. Maybe most of these "fans" are happy with mediocrity.

If the team did what Frimp said, make no change, and go all the way, then Yippee. However, that more than likely isn't going to happen.

I hope [...] they go all the way next year.
You had a bunch of extra unnecessary details in your post, so I condensed it for you.

To wit: will you be disappointed if Miami cleans house, drafts a #1 QB, and goes all the way next year?

Not at all. I just want the team to win. Period.

And that is why a new QB and coaching staff is needed, from the last few drives of the Cowboys. Conservative to the extreme, not trying to pound the ball in inside the five, throwing behind your open Bess receiver in the middle of the field.

No more need to discount what the Dolphins are doing.  Today's game speaks for itself.

That shouldn't have happened weeks ago...if not in the off season.

I think we lose out the rest of the season, finishing 3-13.

Am I happy about this?...Hell No...but if this isn't grounds for a GM/Coaching change, then I don't understand what is?

Right now, Sparano is 17 -26 in 2 plus seasons and our GM has struck out on more high draft picks than i care to remember.

3-13 should get us a top 3 pick and the hope that we are able to finally  find our franchise QB.

If the season keeps going the way it is now and the losing teams do not win another game, there are three teams ahead of us and two more with the same record. So we are looking at somewhere between fourth and sixth pick.
