the season's been over for us for awhile now and we've argued this to death in different threads about different scenarios.  I just wanted to get my thoughts out there in one spot. 

1.  Replace Jeff Ireland with Carl Peterson.
2.  Evaluate the head coaching position.  Is Todd Bowles worth keeping? If so great, if not I'd like to see them get an experienced coach with some kind of a track record.  Not Brian Billick, not Jeff Fisher. 
3.  Draft a QB.  Let Matt Moore start the season.  Bring in an experienced vet (Like a Mark Brunell but hopefully slightly younger) to tutor Moore and the rookie.   
4.  I'd like to see us draft another guard and then some secondary help, but also stockpile a shitload of draft picks.

jesus christ, if Matt Moore still need "tutoring" after being in the league for 4 years going on 5  and starting for 2 different franchises, he is in the wrong profession

Missing my point.  Marino had Strock and later Jaworski.  Montana had DeBerg.  Steve Young had Montana.  McMahon had Steve Fuller. 

And you're missing his.  You said to tutor Moore AND the rookie, insinuating that Moore needs to be tutored, which would be a waste of time and money.


However, if that was a typo or anything of that nature, then yes. I agree with the "Vet teaches the Rookie" theory..another example, Rodgers had Favre  >:D

I don't understand why Carl Peterson is so revered. What has he done in Kansas City that is so amazing?

In 1989, he drafts Derrick Thomas with #4 overall - any monkey in a suit could do that
In 1993, he traded for Joe Montana (risky move but it worked for that one season) and acquired Marcus Allen in free agency (also highly risky because the payoff had to be immediate). The Chiefs went to the AFC championship game that season.

Since that point, the KC Chiefs (from 1993-2008):

1. Never won another playoff game
2. Won the AFC West 3 times in 1995, 1997, 2003
3. Went 75-85 (0.46875 Win PCT) in Peterson's last 10 seasons

There isn't anything here that is telling me that Carl Peterson would succeed or adapt to the modern NFL game as a GM of the Dolphins. He is a "retread" GM.

And - I understand that you can't get the best GM always (like you can't get Bill Belichick simply because you want him - sometimes you take who you can get). But why this guy? Why not a "young, hungry, innovative GM", which is the same model most of you would like to take with the head coaching position?

Because he can't be any worse than Jeff Ireland.  The GM doesn't coach guys.  He just gets you talent.

Not a typo but you're striking more at what I was trying to articulate.

I'm not sure this is necessary, but I don't have any objection to it either.

If not Brian Billick and not Jeff Fisher, your choices of experienced coach with a track record is pretty slim especially since I think the odds that Cowher coaches this year are extremely slim and I might say the same thing for Gruden.

I'll modify this slightly to say draft a QB in the 1st round. Make list of QB's, 1,2,3 and 4 and take the highest one that's still there when you pick. There should be one of them. If your top 3 come off the board quick, do whatever you have to do to move up and get #4.

Don't really care what you do after round 1, but you better get a young QB in round 1. There's no excuse not to this year. None.

I'd rather have Ireland than Peterson.  Frankly, Peterson is who he is.  He won't get better, he won't learn.  Ireland is still young, still learning.  I've liked many of his picks. Pouncey looks like a keeper,  Daniel Thomas and Charles Clay can both play, while Edmond Gates is a project.

Going back a year, I think the world of Odrick's potential, think Misi is improving, know John Jerry is putting it together, and the other guys (AJ Edds, Nolan Carroll, Reshad Jones,  Austin Spitler) contribute to varying degrees.

He's gotten some picks right, like I said he's nowhere near as bad as Speilman was, but I just don't see the moves that will put the team into serious contender status.  There isn't any draft or trade we can point to yet and go ok this was the turning point for the franchise.

They won't be. No way that 4 QB's go before Miami picks. Now if one or more of the underclassmen stay in college, then that changes things, but I won't believe that any of them are staying until they declare they are. Getting paid millions is an awfully big incentive to come out for anyone to pass up. It happens, but it's uncommon.

Carl Peterson knows the importance of a franchise QB. He knew he needed Montana. He might not have won big in KC, but he had that team relevant for a decade or so. I would take that now for the Fins.

Does he?  Yes he made the move to get Montana but that barely lasted for 2 season.  Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, and a 41 year old Warren Moon, don't exactly scream franchise QB.  Not to mention Rich Gannon was on the roster during the Grbac/Bono days.  I understand he doesn't have control of who sees time on the field (see 1997 Schotty-Ball), but if we're agreeing that he has a "knowledge of the importance of a franchise QB."  Why let Gannon go?

Just want you to know that I blame you for Barkley staying at USC. Damnit!!!
