Title: No subject,potpourri topics,random thoughts..Post away!
Post by: bsfins on December 21, 2011, 02:54:46 pm
This thread isn't meant for one topic, just a place to post your random thoughts...Maybe not worth a whole new thread...So post away....

*My inevitable end to my Netflix subscription (I just get Blu-ray discs) -If the new post office rules take effect, closing sorting centers, post offices, and no Saturday mail....For me,everything will be sent to K.C. and back to mail something across town...So I'd have to send it on Mon.,Netflix gets it Weds, ships weds,I get it Fri...Not much of a service...
If the Post office raises rates to stay the way it is,then Netflix raises it rates...and it's not worth it any more....

*Dexter's last two (maybe thee) episodes this season (NO SPOILERS!) - Seemed like they were written to be a 90 minute episode, and at the last minute decided to have Homeland 90 minutes and split the finale of Dexter into 2- 60 minute episodes....The last few episodes were, not really all that good for a season finale IMO. It felt like a lot of rewrite filler stuff....

*Homeland (1 Spoiler type thing if you haven't seen the whole season) - I really liked this show, but I'm afraid it's gonna be a 1 season wonder for me...

(SPOLIER time!)
IMO Kerry being fired from the CIA,and mental break down, kind of kills the show. It's burn notice...

* Rudeness- Lately for me,it seems like I've noticed more beyond rude,just plain....Classless,uncivil,disobedience,I'm sorry I don't have a word...A few things recently
Twitter,in itself seems to be rampant sometimes....So I'll skip those....

1.) I was standing in line at the grocery store, non speedy check out,the lady in front of us both had $200 worth of groceries. When I walked up she was half through, the guy bellows out,"People with full carts better not be writing a check..." Thankfully the cashier sniped back, and threatened to have him escorted out of the store...

2.) In Sears,an employee bumped a guy, when the guy realized he worked there,he let off a line of obscenities.....

What will normal society be,is this from social media being able to comment and bitch about everything?

*The Holidays- I really wasn't able to get my full Clark W. Griswald on this year, but I'm so Holidayed (sp?),wait maybe "Holiday" out already this year....Please just bring January,so normal might return...

- I am bugged that mobile devices: phones, tablets, etc -- sometimes have a specific mobile version of the site and it sucks.  It's worse when you CAN'T see the regular version.  It's even worse when a FREE site makes you buy an APP to view it on certain devices.

I wish I could sell everything in my house, and start all over.  Clothing especially.  If I had a modest sum of money to fill needs all at once, I'd have done it much differently than I have over the past 15 years.

^^ I kind of agree,not everything,but a lot of stuff....Start with the Futon,the former JVC DLP T.V. I had,my first Blu-ray player,Wii,etc,etc...Man Brian is right.... :D

* Wondering aloud - Why does my gas hot water heater, and my gas circulator (heater) required to be vented outside, yet my gas free standing range/oven isn't....

Not feeling the fact that a lot of games are going the way of unlocks and leveling up. Gone are the days of having most items at your disposal. If I wanted to level up and get better shit the more I played, I'd play an RPG. I understand that it's the developer's way of keeping (the majority of) players coming back to play THEIR GAME, and this is what gaming (multiplayer) has turned into, but it just doesn't work for me. Damn this new generation of players/developers. I'm screwed.

I'm thinking about golf.  And my wife's tits.  Also the number 8.  We don't really need it so I'm getting rid of it and replacing it with double 4.

I'm going to start an affirmative action program for letters also.  There are too many S's and not enough z's  So I've taken words and names and changed them to reflect this.  Also there aren't enough SN sounds in words.  So Social studies just became Snocial Studies.

The tribe in my head has spoken.

The new google phone, Samsung something... just came out last week, has it built into its browser to request the desktop site so you aren't stuck on the mobile site.

Nivea cool kick arctic freeze wash & shave gel - I saw this in an article about the best products for men,I already enjoy Nivea shaving products, and Thought it would be good in my travel a bag in a pinch. It's in a little squeeze tube, not a can,so smaller makes it easy to travel with.I tried it a couple of weeks ago and really liked it,haven't stopped...Bye Bye can, welcome the tube...I love the menthol stuff in feels good while shaving, even with my super sensitive skin.I admit it's different it doesn't foam up,which for me shaves better, because I see those spots I tend to miss or not get close enough with the foams...Down side it is it costs almost 3 times as much as the can, with my luck they'll discontinue it...

Sometimes at work I would pee in the dumpster.  It isn't like a get even or I hate my job thing, but for some reason when it's really cold outside and then I go into a heated building, the first thing I have to do is pee.

*Lesson Learned - When it's important,NEVER Trust the post office...

Explanation...Tuesday night 12-20-2011 11PM-ish,the water diverter valve on my washing machine finally gave away beyond repair.Looked through my local parts supplier book,it says special order,so they aren't going to have it locally stocked.I scrounge around online find it online, the shipping price is around $8 for priority 2-3 days,UPS and fedex were double that for the same time period...They shipped promptly Weds. morning, day to expect was Friday 23rd.I figure with Christmas,it might be late it will be Sat. the 24th...No mail today observe Christmas day....My part arrived in Hazelwood Mo. Friday, processed through, and left, before it actually posted the arrival scan..Last night processed through Des Moines Iowa (ironically where I was born)......Sigh....Another night at the laundry mat...*See Above...

Since when was it standard practice to open up and unbox items in a store you MIGHT purchase? AND LEAVE IT OPENED!  :/

- I like this store in the mall called Express.  So, I signed up for their email list to receive coupons and stuff.  They email me EVERY SINGLE DAY.  It's irritating.  I wish they'd lay off just a little bit.  ...damn.  Email me once a month, if you must.  It's just too much.

I'm actually unsubscribing to a bunch of stores that I frequent that do the same thing. I love getting their discounts or sales info, but not everyday. It's just too much.

Similarly, a couple years ago I made a donation to the local PBS station, thought I might make it an annual thing.  Then I proceeded to receive monthly requests for more money, which probably cost more than the donation I made.  Irritated me to think my donation was wasted.

This has been a really bad problem lately....Bad recommendations by people who know you,not just some average person you just met,but people who spend time with you (friends/family,coworkers)

(sorry for being bitchy/passive aggressive here...)

B...You have to go to this steakhouse/restaurant,and get their house steak,burger...(I don't eat read meat)

B...You really need to listen to this song by this Rap/hip hop artist...

B.. You need to go to Home depot,Best Buy,Target and get this....(all those stores have one location here, and it's on the opposite side of town,99% of the time, I can find it cheaper online,or another store that I'd have to pass to go to one of those places)

B...You need to go to Cardinals Clubhouse, and check out.....(not exactly my type of place being a Cubs fan)

I don't have a problem with them telling me,about something/someplace that's not within like 50 miles from here...If you get to a dunkin donuts,White castle try this....

I have so much respect for the mod community of the PC gaming world. By gamers for gamers, I love you guys. My latest miracle find; Starcraft: Brood War sound/music replacement for the shitty ones in Starcraft 2. My ears no longer bleed.

THE UNIVERSE - I've always been into astronomy as a kid and recently rediscovered my passion for it by watching documentaries on Netflix.  Nothing will make you feel like less than a bacterial turd than to learn about the universe and it's unending vastness.  Fantastic stuff though and I'll be following NASA's stuff more closely from now on.  Even before all this I used to just watch the NASA channel (whatever it's actually called) and just get lost in their missions no matter how boring the crap they happened to be showing was.

Maps - I've never realised how much I love looking at and studying maps and globes until Ms. Guru pointed it out to me.  She believes in reincarnation and a bunch of other whacky stuff and feels like I was once an explorer in medieval times.  I tell her I'm still a pirate in search of booty.  HAY - OH!!!

I'm not sure if it's a good thing,or a sad thing everything on my Amazon wish/watch list can be bought for less than $450..(Actually $442.09,most of which could be bought Prime so no shipping) I am watching multiple things more than once on the list, which I didn't count, and I didn't count my supplies list...(Frontline,Printer ink,Cyber clean, etc)

Playstation 3 MOVE: awesome concept, dropped the ball in development. KEEP THE CROSSHAIRS IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN! Seriously? In order to look around you have to drag the the screen via crosshairs? Tweaking helps a little, but I am at a loss as to what they were thinking.

My alarm clock is poorly designed.  The "snooze" button and the "off" button are right next to each other and they are flush with the system.  Counting on a groggy dude to pick the correct button by feel is a losing proposition.

^^^Yeah I have a similar problem, I hit the radio button sometimes and the radio comes on, so..the alarm won't go off if the radio is on; which I don't like, I like to listen to the radio, but sometimes fall back asleep and the alarm won't go off again.

I have a pet peeve where you ask someone a direct question (not a trick question or a loaded question) and they don't answer it, but they just repeat what they just said.  It happens at work a lot.

My alarm clock only rings for 54 minutes and then shuts off automatically.  Ever think that if I snoozed 7 effing times, I might need a bit more encouragement to get up?  No, instead you just quit and let me sleep.  Wrong answer.

In today's society where texting rules all (not just texting on your phone - I mean reading blogs, message boards, facebook profiles, etc), is proper grammar really that difficult?

If you know the difference between your and you're.  Or their, they're and there, we would probably get along just fine

Good call on the alarm just stopping eventually (I've never understood that), as well as the poor grammar.

I have another pet peeve.  When you're speaking to someone and you're playing the role of the expert -- they've hired you for your expertise -- then they want to argue with you and tell you what's what about the subject.  It's maddening.

just to clarify,that's like...
Person A. asking person B. Where is the Mens bathroom?
Person B. replies with hmm Where's the bathroom?

I have a similar (I think) one that has driven me up the wall...They ask a question ,about what I just told them...
Me:I need you to read this over, initial it,and sign it anywhere...(hand them the piece of paper)
Them: You need me to sign this?

Me:Can I get a chicken sandwich,no Mayo,add Mustard.
Them: So you don't want Mayo on that?

Me: Can I get a plain,no sugar added, large Tea...
them:you want sweet tea?

Two of these happened to me today!

Yes. I used to have nice, neat handwriting. Now I kind of have to work at it. My work notes are basically chicken scratch. Also, my hand gets really tired when I write.

Most people are thankful I do 90+% of my stuff on a computer of some type, they don't have to try to read my handwriting.Which is really small, and incredibly horrendous chicken scratching.

two more quick ones...
1.) While cleaning up some scattered bookmarks in my browser,I remembered I saved this around Christmas...
I REALLY,really, really, really want one of these, but in my neighborhood,it get stolen night one,or a one of the older extremely religious folk would call the police claiming it's offensive. :P :'(

(Work safe Link Dr. Who item) http://www.thisplanetearth.co.uk/main/page64.html (http://www.thisplanetearth.co.uk/main/page64.html)

2.) Is it really wrong of me.... When I hear, someone died in an automobile crash, because they were doing 75+mph on wet,or icy curvy/hilly country road...My first thought is...Thinning the herd...( I got accused of being insensitive asshole on this one,I didn't know the guy,nor his family)

No, more like:

Person A: I am having a problem with one of my clients.  He's not sure if he should accept this offer, because he doesn't know if he needs to keep paying us after this month.

Person B: Well, does he have other outstanding debts?

Person A: He just doesn't know if he needs to keep paying next month.

They announced yesterday that they are shutting down the postal sorting facility here in 2 phases by the end of the year (bye, bye 200 jobs) and my Netflix Subscription...I just can't see how it going to be worth it,between the 30 day delay on new releases (and 56 day delay from Warner Bros. releases now),and the time to exchange discs...The Netflix experience Grade....a C....Started out good, then became more trouble than it's worth for me...

It dawned on me today that I don't personally care about privacy.  In theory, I don't like companies or the government having unnecessary information about the population.  I don't like the policy of giving my phone number out when I buy something in a store.

But, despite not liking it, I just don't care.  I have nothing interesting enough about my life to hide.  ...and I don't even like the word "hide", because it implies that not wanting others to have your personal info known is "hiding".  But if Google goes through my search history, I just don't really give a crap, personally.

Complete contradiction. You do care because you don't like it. You just don't care enough to make any sort of statement such as a boycott.

I don't like the principle of it.  I don't personally care about the individual practice of it, towards me.
