Any thoughts on the new name in the future? Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: tubba marxxx on December 21, 2011, 04:50:01 pm Bullshit Field
Field Gold Field El Estadio del Futbol Americano A Once Proud Park just off the top of my head Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: Dave Gray on December 21, 2011, 04:51:26 pm Changing field names sucks. It's awful for branding.
Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: Phishfan on December 21, 2011, 05:50:29 pm I don't know about in south Florida, but here no one seems to care about the Magic arena's naming. Everyone I know just calls it the arena and has for as long as I've been around. I don't think anyone here associated the venue name with the Magic so it doesn't affect branding. The culture down south may be different though.
Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: Dave Gray on December 21, 2011, 06:01:37 pm A stadium needs to be named for something indefinitely. Otherwise, it has no meaning. We have all of these amphitheaters, stadiums, arenas, and ballparks, and they all change names every few years. It just adds confusion and people say "Is that the old <whatever it used to be called>". I don't know one person who calls it Sun Life stadium. They either call it Dolphins Stadium or Joe Robbie.
The only stadium that I can think that has any kind of branding here is the American Airlines Arena, and I think that's only because it is known as the "Triple A". Does the Robbie family still have some stock in miami or what ??? Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: BigDaddyFin on December 21, 2011, 07:00:55 pm Either call it Joe Robbie Stadium or call it the New Orange Bowl. Enough with this corporate bullshit.
Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: mecadonzilla on December 21, 2011, 07:39:02 pm Joe Robbie for the win!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: Tenshot13 on December 21, 2011, 07:46:27 pm A guy named Frosty on another forum I'm on said they should call it Don Shula field at Joe Robbie Stadium. I'd be down with that, but it'll never happen.

I call it Dolphins stadium or Joe Robbie.... I can see it from my house and that's what we've always called it! Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: tubba marxxx on December 21, 2011, 10:04:32 pm HAHAHAHA I think that's actually pretty damn funny!!! I call it Dolphins stadium or Joe Robbie.... I can see it from my house and that's what we've always called it! Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses ;) Seriously though, can we start a petition to name it Joe Robbie Stadium once again? Joe Robbie deserves to be remembered! I'd be down with that, but it'll never happen. Either or both of these would also be acceptable although if you call it Don Shula field At Joe Robbie Stadium, it implies there's a second field in there. that's my only bitch about that. Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: Dave Gray on December 22, 2011, 12:10:40 pm It really doesn't matter. There's money to be made in stadium naming, so they're going to keep doing it.
It'd be nice to get a sponsor that isn't some fly by night clothing company, beer you never heard of, or ghetto bank. My favorite stadium names are ones that are creative and iconic: Candlestick Park, Camden Yard, Fenway Park, etc. Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 22, 2011, 04:08:57 pm Corporate names that stick arond for a while isn't bad.
You never hear anyone badmouth the Cubs for having a a corporate stadium name, yet they were among the first (if not the first). They just don't change corporate sponsers every other year. Title: Re: Sun Life, Dolphins will not renew stadium naming rights Post by: Dave Gray on December 22, 2011, 04:12:45 pm I'm OK with brand names if they're somewhat enigmatic. Wrigley is a good one. I don't mind Heinz Field. But I wouldn't like Heinz Ketchup Field, for example.

I hope its not something like Goya Stadium.

Seriously, I could care less. Stadium names have been so bastardized in recent years its not like before. I hope its not something like Goya Stadium. The way they've been using hispanics as their selling point... dude, I SO see this shit happening, LOL! Original topic: Miami's been therough so many stadium name changes it's comical. It's to the point that I don't care anymore. It'll always be Joe Robbie Stadium. Name it Maxi-Tampon Stadium for all I care. |
