Title: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: EKnight on January 02, 2012, 08:33:51 am Thought Rodgers was a lock till I saw what Flynn did yesterday. Is GB's success because of Rodgers outstanding play or the system? If the backup can step in an throw for 480 and 6 TD's does that hurt Rodgers' chances? -EK
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Landshark on January 02, 2012, 08:37:32 am Not to derail this thread, but with that game yesterday, Flynn just became the hottest free agent QB on the market.
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: EKnight on January 02, 2012, 08:46:43 am I agree, although (and this is what got me thinking about this thread), I've already heard people here saying it was only the system, and not Flynn. -EK

Which means that Miami won't be getting him. :)Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Pappy13 on January 02, 2012, 09:41:32 am I agree, although (and this is what got me thinking about this thread), I've already heard people here saying it was only the system, and not Flynn. -EK It's not the system, it's the players. They have 3 WR's that are as good as Marshall. They have a terrific offensive line. They have a TE that's as good catching the ball as most teams WR's. The have a running back who can get tough yards all by himself. The QB has all the tools any QB could ask for. That's not to diminish what Rogers has done, he gets the most out of those guys, but when your backup can come in and put up those kinds of numbers, obviously it's not just the QB.Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Tenshot13 on January 02, 2012, 10:34:11 am Brees
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Dave Gray on January 02, 2012, 10:42:19 am I think it's still Rodgers. Flynn's play doesn't discount what Rodgers has done, just like it doesn't discount Favre's time there, either.
Rodgers has been super clutch and not made mistakes. Brees has been great, as well. ..but there's something about the coolness of Rodgers' play that gives him the nod. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: fyo on January 02, 2012, 03:53:39 pm Rodgers
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Landshark on January 02, 2012, 06:07:39 pm A straw poll was taken on Fox Sports. Rodgers has a slight lead. Two weeks ago, he would've won easily, says Dan Patrick

Two weeks ago, he would've won easily, says Dan Patrick It's tough. If Brees didn't break Dan's record I would say Rodgers hands down. I would say slight edge to Rodgers but if Brees won I wouldn't complain. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: jtex316 on January 03, 2012, 08:50:56 am Brees has broken like 7 NFL records this season, including Marino's yards record.
Remember way back in week 1 I had made a post that asked if you'd rather have Brees or Rodgers, and almost everyone picked Rodgers with a "it's not even close" attitude. This season, Brees was out of this world. So was Rodgers. Co-MVPs? Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: masterfins on January 03, 2012, 04:16:24 pm Brady
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: MikeO on January 03, 2012, 05:42:11 pm I heard something on SIRIUS NFL radio today, I still have to verify it but if true its amazing. That the Packers gave up the most passing yards in a single season in NFL history. If they did that and still went 15-1, then Rodgers gets my vote.
I mean its close between the two guys, but jesus christ Rodgers truly was a one-man team if that stat I heard is correct. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Brian Fein on January 03, 2012, 05:57:49 pm Peyton Manning is the MVP for 2011
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: bsmooth on January 03, 2012, 07:10:27 pm If Rodgers is a production of a system, then what the hell is Brees. He has passed for over 5k yards in a spread offense system that plays half its games indoors.
Brees was an okay QB before his injury in SD and has become elite in the Dome. Rodgers is MVP over Brees. Also Brees had to stay in a locked up victory to run his stats up higher( TD's v Int's) as he was behind Rodgers on this. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Thundergod on January 03, 2012, 09:04:49 pm Goin with Brees.
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on January 03, 2012, 09:44:30 pm Rodgers.
15-1 team. Ridiculous TD:INT ratio. Superbowl favorite despite his shitty defense. Hell, Eli F'N Manning almost broke it, so it was just that type of year for the offense due to the new rule changes about touching receivers. Or looking at them. Or making eye contact with the QB. Or trying to tackle anyone.
1. Rodgers 2. Brees 3. Brady 4. Manning. Peyton, not Eli. Hard to argue Peyton didn't deserve the damn award this year after seeing what the Colts did. The two worst defenses this year in terms of yards allowed are the #1 seeds in their respective conferences. Not sure why it is just Brees or Rodgers as the choices....Brady had an impressive season as well. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Pappy13 on January 04, 2012, 03:01:52 pm ^^ I actually started to comment something to that effect when MikeO posted about the Packers, but thought better of it since the Packers went 14-1 with Rodgers and New England only went 13-3 with Brady. Still it was an impressive performance by Brady as well, just not quite as impressive as Rodgers.
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: MikeO on January 04, 2012, 07:13:06 pm The two worst defenses this year in terms of yards allowed are the #1 seeds in their respective conferences. Yep. Proving once again defense is overrated and teams should invest heavily in offense and use the majority of their salary cap on that side of the ball as well Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 04, 2012, 07:50:03 pm I heard something on SIRIUS NFL radio today, I still have to verify it but if true its amazing. That the Packers gave up the most passing yards in a single season in NFL history. I heard the same thing on Sportscenter two nights ago. While I like Brees and he had one hell of a season I would pick Rogers as the MVP this year. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: bsmooth on January 04, 2012, 08:52:40 pm From ESPN's site.
While the records were all passing related, they weren’t all positive marks. The Packers finished the season allowing 4,796 pass yards, the most in NFL history. This year’s Patriots briefly held the record after finishing their game with 4,703 pass yards allowed this season. Before this year, the 1995 Atlanta Falcons held the futility mark with 4,541 pass yards allowed. Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: EKnight on January 05, 2012, 07:26:05 am Anyone who thinks Manning deserves the arard- or even a vote- is ridiculous. Manning doesn't play defense; he didn't give up 60 to the Saints. Revisit last year- the Colts were not the 14 win team everyone seems to remember them as. They went 10-6 and lost their first round playoff game. There werr MANY people picking them to go 8-8 this year and lose the division to Houston before Manning got hurt. Does Manning playing get them more than 2 wins? Probably, sure. Does it make them a 12 win team and a Super Bowl contender? It didn't last year, so it wouldn't have this year. He has no business in a serious discussion about the award. -EK
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: Spider-Dan on January 05, 2012, 11:29:29 am The Colts won too many games for Manning to get an MVP vote. They were not historically bad; they merely sucked.
Title: Re: Brees or Rodgers MVP Post by: MikeO on February 04, 2012, 08:30:22 pm Aaron Rodgers won the award and the voting went 48-2 (thats not a typo)
