Title: Super Bowl Predictions
Post by: masterfins on February 02, 2012, 11:22:26 am
What's everyone going with?

NE Patriots  26
NJ Giants     22

(My prediction has more to do with winning money in a pool, than anything else.)

Should be a good game.

I think it's a law that the Pats have to win Super Bowls by 3.

NE 27
NY 24

As much as I want the Giants to win I can never bet against the Patriots in the post-season (or any part of the season). I don't think it'll be too close but I'm thinking something like

NE 28
NY 17

you fools.

I see no way the Patriots win this game.  I think you'll see again why defense wins championships.

Giants 31
Patriots 20

As much as I want to see the darkside lose this game my gut tells me they will pull this one off.

Pats - 24
Giants - 23

31-30 Giants -  I think this game is going to come down to the very last drive of the game...

3 Things i see on this game...
1) Pats will run a ton of no huddle to try and prevent the Giants defense from making subs and to get them tired. Slow down the Giants pass rush

2) Giants WR's will destroy the Pats secondary. Not even a fair match-up.

3) NE will have a few tricks up their sleeve especially if Gronkowski isn't near 100%. Watch for them to maybe set something up for Ochocinco who everyone has forgot about. If they dress him this game, I think they use him and have something special for him.

The play is the Giants +3 and bet the OVER.

I think the Giants win by 7 but if the Pats can successfully run their no huddle with success and wear out the giants defense, if NE won on a late field goal I wouldn't be shocked.

But for the sake of making an official "on the record pick" I will say Giants 31  Pats 24

As much as I hate to see it, the Patriots are going to wax the floor with the Giants.  Brady and Bilichick are just too good, too smart; there's no way anyone can come up with a gameplan to stop them in a game of this magnitude.  You have to realize how much this game means to them and their careers, if they win this one they can argue that they truly are the GOAT.  Brady has a huge chip on his shoulder, and NE has too many offensive weapons.  Their defense is also playing lights out at the right time....all those guys who were new and raw earlier in the season have jelled just in time.

Pats 35
Giants 17

I'll be hoping for the ground under the RCA dome to open up and swallow half the players. Specifically those wearing Patriots jerseys... that's the only way they don't win.

How about some data.....

During the regular season, the Patriots beat exactly ZERO teams with a record above 0.500.  The teams they beat this season, playoffs included, were a combined 96-128 (0.428).  Their 3 losses this season came against opponents who were a combined 39-25 (0.609).

Before they beat the Ravens, the Patriots had yet to beat a team with a winning record.  And, considering the nature of the Ravens' loss, I'm not convinced that they would have won in OT.

I believe, based on this information, that the Patriots can't beat a good team.  Any average team should be able to romp through a schedule of pansies.  Their defense has been a liability all season, and they've been simply outscoring weaker opponents.  I don't think the Patriots can dominate a "good" team like the Ravens, Steelers, or Giants the way they do against the Chiefs, Dolphins, or Redskins.

Take it for what its worth, but the Giants are going to expose this on Sunday.

^^^ I really hope you're right, but I don't see the Pats losing to the Giants a second time this season. They only lost (if I remember correctly) due to a last second touchdown pass from Eli. I don't think the data will matter for the Superbowl but I had no idea that they didn't beat a team above .500.

This to me is a misguided stat.  So, is it the Pats' fault that their schedule included 13 games against teams that were below .500??  Maybe the teams were below .500 because the Pats beat them (Bills/Dolphins)??  Some teams lose games against inferior teams, the Pats didn't do that, I say that's a good thing.  They won in the playoffs when it counted.  Like the Giants, I think their defense improved towards the end of the season, plus I'm sure they want payback against the Giants.

It is also a misrepresented stat as some of theams were .500.

Go Giants.

Its also misguided in that they made the Super Bowl beating two teams with winning records. At the same time if you're going to discredit the Pats schedule for the regular season, how do people ignore the Giant's regular season record(getting swept by the Redskins)?

the point was that the patriots arent as good as everyone thinks because everytime they were tested, they failed. with the exception of the ravens game

reason all you want i am just telling you why i picked the way i did. i think they are an above average team but not dominant.

we will see.....

i think the giants win in high scoring game...

giants: 34
pats: 24

brady struggled against the ravens, and the giants have a way better pass rush & overall defense. eli is your mvp, and him & the trio of his receivers light up the pats.

I love that people point out the lack of wins against over .500 teams but they were 13-3. The Giants lost 7 games. It's just a weak argument IMHO

key to giants win... pats couldn't tape the giants plays before the game.

patriots should carry a huge asterisk over those super bowl wins given they cheated.

That's a very fair statement, and I'd agree with you on them being above average, but not dominate.

The game came down to pretty much one big play.  It could've gone either way.  I don't think you can really say much about the Pats organization or character from this game.  They were 1 play from being champs AGAIN.  Don't read too much into it.

I didn't see it that way. I thought the Giants outplayed them from start to finish. Sure they had a chance to win it at the end, but it's not like the Giants got lucky. They played well and they ended up on top.

Now I'm not saying that it's the beginning of the end of the Patriots, not at all. I'm just saying they are starting to show a few cracks that didn't seem to be there a couple years ago. Belicheck has a lot of work to do on that defense as they can't always rely on their offense to bail them out.  In my opinion New England leaned on Brady a bit too much this year and he nearly pulled it off, but they don't want to have to do that again next year.

^^^Anytime you have an All-Pro QB he gets "leaned on";  after all he is the most important play maker on the team..  Rodgers & GB, Manning & Indy, Brees & NO, Marino & Miami, they all are expected to carry the team.  I do get your point though, teams need to be more balanced so they can pick up the slack if the QB has a bad game.
