Title: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: Tenshot13 on March 02, 2012, 11:14:11 pm I was set on taking an OL pick in the first round after we were out of the Luck/RG3 running. I really don't like taking an OL pick in the top ten that isn't a LT though. Then I thought maybe Coples would be an ok pick, but I don't like some of the reports of his motor being low. What about Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis? He ran a 4.8 forty at the combine and had a good bench too. I heard his motor can run low too, but with Solia and Langford possibly leaving, it wouldn't be the worst pick in the world. There are talks that we may take Tannehill in the first, which I think is a mistake. He is second round talent at best. That being said, I do like him.
Idealy, this is what I think... There are reports now that Peyton Manning is getting his arm strength back. I'm thinking it's looking more and more apparent he'll be here. I wouldn't be surprised is Reggie Wayne ended up here as well. There is little in FA and even less in the draft for safety. Our safeties are probably going to be the same this year as last...let's just hope the young guys improve from last year. If we don't take an OL pick in the first, we'll probably take one in the second. That means we don't get a playmaker TE...if we were lucky, Fleener or the dude out of Clemson would drop to us in the second, but with Clay's potential, OL is a bigger need, and I'm sure we'd take a G/RT in the second, unless Tannehill is sitting there...then I'd say it would be 50/50 between an OL or QB. I've heard recent reports that we're moving Misi to ILB. That means Dansby and Burnett are our OLBs. Set there. DL was a strength of ours, but could need work this offseason. Wake is a lock. Starks is good at DT. Langford and Solia both could be gone, so we need help there, which is why I mentioned Poe. If we don't get Peyton, I wouldn't mind breaking the bank on Mario Williams...Likely, no, but how sexy would it be to have Wake on one side and Williams on the other? OL needs help on the right side. Jerry was good at the end of the season, so we could roll the dice and sign only one OL guy this offseason. Nicks would be ideal, but will want a lot of money, so that leaves the draft. Jerry could play RT, so G would be the best way to go in the draft, plus there will probably be more available than Tackles. If he's still available at the 8th pick, I'd snatch him up if I was Jeff Ireland. This kid is a playmaker. Him going opposite Brandon Marshall would keep secondary coaches awake at night.

I didn't think he participated in any drills, and only did measurements and interview. Was that enough to drop his stock? I wouldn't hesitate to take him if he drops that far, but I don't think it is likely. Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: Tenshot13 on March 03, 2012, 01:06:05 am Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
Justin Blackmon measured in shorter than expected at the Combine (6-1, 207). There is a stat going around that he would be the shortest receiver chosen in the top 10 since Ted Ginn, but that's largely irrelevant because Blackmon plays bigger than his size. I'm giving Blackmon a down arrow, but it won't be enough to knock him out of the top six. http://walterfootball.com/combine2012stock4.php (http://walterfootball.com/combine2012stock4.php) Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: MikeO on March 03, 2012, 02:50:43 am Blackmon is only 6'ft 1 and was 207 lbs. The man is smaller than Brian Hartline. No way would I want Miami to take him Top 10.
Good player but NOT in the category of Dez Bryant or Calvin Johnson recent big name WR's who he has been compared too. He doesn't have their size and I don't think he is on there level. Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: Spider-Dan on March 03, 2012, 03:25:22 am Look at the game film.
If you thought he was a top 5 pick until someone told you that he's actually two inches shorter than you thought, you should probably rethink your evaluation criteria. Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: bsfins on March 03, 2012, 09:47:40 am I wouldn't mind If we sign Manning, take Ryan Tannehill (if he get's by Washington),Then go O-line,pash rusher in the 2nd round...
QB now in Manning, and the future with Tannehill...I don't think that would fly at all with Peyton though....and that's a lot of "if" (I thought I saw someone mention Manning to the Cardinals would be a better fit...I could see that..) I think if we sign Flynn,we look pass rusher,O-line round 1.... I don't like the idea of trading up with the RAMS...At all.... Competing with the Browns, and Redskins,(and mystery team/s),mortgaging our future for one player...I don't like... That's my thoughts before free agency Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: Tenshot13 on March 03, 2012, 10:49:10 am Justin Blackmon Sports Science

I would like to see us offer a package for Payton, Saturday and Wayne in order to really get Payton and not necessarily pay him out the wazoo. To do this, we would drop Carey and Columbo and move Pouncy to guard until Saturday retires. Then we would draft a RT in the first round. We would also likely drop Hartline and Solia to make room for Wayne. If Marshal wants a top notch QB so bad, perhaps he would be willing to restructure to make a little room. Might even ask Long to restructure a bit. We could draft a developmental QB in later rounds and use our second pick on a free safety or pass rusher. The tight ends in this draft are not very good total package players, so I am not so encouraged with the idea of using a high pick on one this year. That is the most realistic way I see things happening to get Manning, who (if healthy) is my #1 choice. Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: Spider-Dan on March 03, 2012, 04:15:30 pm I'd rather see us move Saturday to guard (if we got him). Pouncey is more important than Saturday, and I'm tired of bouncing the line around. If it came down to moving Pouncey or passing on Saturday, I'd prefer the latter.
Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: el diablo on March 03, 2012, 06:41:50 pm If the Peyton/Reggie package deal rumor holds water, then the Dolphins are in trouble. They don't have the cap space. You can also say goodbye to Solai(who is leaving anyway), Langford, & Carey. Both offensive & defensive lines would take a huge hit. Both are areas that they needed improvement. Peyton by himself is still too risky for me. Sorry.
Poe or Ingram in the 1st rd works for me. It might require a trade down, but either one helps the DL. Poe requires a constant double team. That frees up so many blitz opportunities. Ingram is athletic and versatile. I thought the rumor was Peyton would basically pay for peanuts in an incentive heavy contract. I don't understand how everything affects cap space but I thought it would be a rather cheap thing. Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: el diablo on March 03, 2012, 09:03:13 pm Peanuts is a relative term. Especially to a guy who is due $28 million in less than a week. Nobody is going to pay north of $20 mil. So if he "settles" for less than $10 mil, I would be shocked. Because, he could easily do that for Indy. And as of now, he won't. Now if there are stories of him playing for less than $10 mil, I haven't heard it.

Peyton/Wayne > Kendall F'n Langford!! Use the 8th pick in the draft and take a DE, problem solved! Where is the issue? Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: el diablo on March 04, 2012, 02:06:44 pm The issue is Peyton/Reggie don't block or play defense. I understand how the majority overlook the importance of the line of scrimmage. But here's the problem. Carey was the second best lineman from a team that allowed 52 sacks. Letting Soliai & Langford go means half of their defensive line will be gone. If the salary cap is raised to $124 million, then the Dolphins would have $15-16 nil in cap space. If its not raised, then they are down to $11-12 mil in space. Passing on Manning is the smart thing to do. If QB was the only position holding this team back, then you take that gamble. Two years ago the Vikings took a chance on a broke down Favre. It worked for one year because QB was their only problem. QB is not the only problem for the Dolphins.
Title: Re: Official Miami Dolphins Free Agency / Draft Discussion Post by: MikeO on March 04, 2012, 02:38:31 pm In a 4-3 defense the Fins d-line is Wake, Odrick, Starks, ??? ...Use the 8th pick to draft another DE and the d-line is complete.
Vernon Carey is not any good letting him go is no loss. QB is the only problem that matters on Miami, not getting one because you want to hold on to Vernon Carey and Kendall Langford is foolish |
