Title: Manning to be released tomorrow (3/7/12)
Post by: MaineDolFan on March 06, 2012, 06:34:24 pm
Indy has until noon on Friday (3/9) to make this move, however they aren't waiting.  Reports are they releasing Manning tomorrow.

When are teams able to start bidding on players such as Manning or Flynn?  Should Miami make a move?  I saw the Youtube video.  If that was Manning, and I suspect it was, his arm looked pretty okay to me.

Updated story here: http://tracking.si.com/2012/03/06/report-colts-will-cut-qb-peyton-manning/?sct=nfl_t2_a3

Manning can sign with anyone 1 minute after he is released. Because he isn't a free agent he is a cut player

Flynn can't sign until March 13th because he is a free agent and must wait for the free agency starting period to begin. Which is at 4pm this year not at midnight in years past. Where you go to bed and wake up and 30 guys got a new team while you slept!

That makes things a little interesting, right?  Do you take a chance on Manning?  Do you wait and get on the bidding for Flynn?  Do you mortgage the future and trade up for the second overall pick?

Miami has some decisions to make here that could really shape their immediate and long term future for a long time!

Peyton Manning, c'mon down!  Why not (finally) replace Marino with "this generation's Marino"?  I'll take that 3 year window, thank you very much!

Reggie Bush is 27, Marshall is 27, Bess 26, Hartline 25, Fasano 27, most of our O-line between 26 and 30.
Langford, Soliai, Starks and Odrick are 26, 28, 28, and 24, Burnett, Dansby, and Wake are 29, 30, and 30, and Davis, Smith, Bell, and Jones are 23, 24, 34, and 24.

That's a team built for now, as the skill positions are all in their prime years.  I say roll the dice with Manning, hope he's the one to make Marshall, Bess, Hartline, and Fasano an elite group, and see if Manning + that defense is enough to get Miami over the hump.  By the time he hangs 'em up, most of the players listed above will be on the other side of 30 anyway...

Miami is out of the RGIII race according to the St.Louis newspaper

If Miami can sign Manning, do it. If by March 13th if Peyton  hasn't signed or given no indication of leaning any which way and wants to take the dinner tour and wine and dine with owners and coaches from around the league and take his sweet little time I don't risk losing Flynn and being left at the alter for the 3rd time in a year (ie Harbaugh and Fisher)

That's what I would do. Give Peyton till March 13th it isn't like this news was sprung on him or any team in the league. Everyone is prepared for this.  I have a feeling though Ross will put all his eggs in the Peyton basket and go for the dance no matter how long it goes.

And its either Peyton or Matt Moore next year.

All the Miami newspapers are reporting that the Dolphins brass are very confident and feel they are in the lead to get Manning.

Now these are the same people who said Fisher was a done deal to Miami so take their reports for what its worth. Although I did read one report that said after the press conference on Wednesday Manning is flying to his home in Miami with his wife. Read into that what you want.

Report: Dolphins believe they have “good chance” to sign Manning

Citing a team source, the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are “very confident” that they have a “good chance” to sign soon-to-be free agent quarterback Peyton Manning.

This assumes Manning can pass medical exams, of course.

Per the Herald‘s Armando Salguero, the Dolphins’ front office has been discussing its impending pursuit of Manning with “the Manning camp” for the past three weeks.

Appearing on NFL Network on Tuesday evening, Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post also confirmed the Dolphins will “absolutely” go hard after Manning.

“They think they might be the leaders of the pack at this point,” Volin said.

Take it for what its worth.

I have no doubt Miami will go after Manning, and probably land him.  That's how this team operates lately.  Go after the biggest and the best, bring him in, and hope for the best.  The billboard on 595 solidified it.

If its what fans want, its what Stephen Ross wants.

And the fact that there's a bunch of silence out of Dolphins camp further enhances this, because they aren't allowed to publicly speak about another team's players.

I never thought I would do this again with the way players move but I just might purchase a Manning Dolphins jersey if he comes.

With Matt Schaub and TJ Yates in the fold, I doubt this will happen.  Houston has several needs.  Quarterback isn't one of them.  But who knows?  Stranger things have happened, like the Dolphins needing secondary help in 1995 and signing Eric Green.

Is anyone else trying to keep their hopes from getting too high?  I am freaking out inside at the possibility of this happening.  Holy Crap!

ARRRRRGHHHHH!!!!!  Don't bring that up.  What a load Green was.

My boy has been on this bandwagon for the last 4 weeks, telling me "Dad, it's gonna happen, count on it".

I am not a Peyton fan, I can appreciate his talents and he's the consumate team player.  This stems from the fact he is/was a Volunteer and I am a Bama homer.  He kicked our ass in college and I hated him for it.

Having said that, if his neck issues don't arise, he could make MIA a formidable team in the AFC east and that's no bullshit.  We could easily get 2, maybe 3 really good years out of him and then during that time, draft a QB to learn from him.

I am getting caught up in the excitement.  This is like a Christmas present that got lost and was just dropped off by the FedEx guy at your door.

We'll see if Ross can make it happen.

Never again.  Not to side track this conversation, but there isn't not a current player I love enough to buy a jersey for.  Not anymore.  I just purchased a Bruins jersey with MY name on it.  I have an order in for a Red Sox jersey.  Come late summer I will do the same for the 'Phins.

There isn't anything quite like having a jersey of player "x" only to see him gone two years later.  I am fairly confident I will never be traded.

I like Manning.  Not that much! :)

The recent concerns are not about his neck. It is about arm strength due to nerve damage. We need him to get his strength back.

Given your writing history I wonder if someone hacked your account. That makes two double negatives today.

Isn't that illegal to tamper with a player who is under contract with another team? Just curious if the league could go after Miami for something like this.

Yes I am trying but it is hard not to get excited about the possibility. Especially with Miami visiting AZ this year!!!!!!

They both weren't today, the first was yesterday.

It's me...my mind is simply in about 100,000 places at one time.

I thought the same thing when I read that.
