Title: The Best: Movies About Vampires
Post by: Dave Gray on March 12, 2012, 01:30:13 am
I just watched a film from a few years ago called "Let Me In".

I was surprised at how good it was.  It's about a little girl (vampire) that befriends a little boy.  She is a vicious killer, which complicates their relationship.

I also really like From Dusk Till Dawn and Interview With the Vampire, though it gets kinda weird.
I tolerate the Lost Boys, Blade, ...even Twilight was OK (only saw the first one).

I didn't really care for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I also liked Monster Squad as a kid, but I'm not sure if that qualifies.

How do you like your vampires?

I was watching a movie once where Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney and a bunch of other people were travelling thru the desert and found some bar.  It caught my attention, and I kept watching.  After that, Salma Hayek was dancing on a table in a bikini, caught more attention. :P

Then it went downhill.  Fast.

Found out later it was From Dusk Till Dawn.  How disappointing!  Frame of mind means a lot, and I was expecting some dramatic adventure movie, not some unrealistic special effects fiasco, where the story becomes utterly unrealistic fiction. So, because of that, it is pretty high up on my "worst movies of all time" list.

Blade  (the first one).

I would have to say that Blade is probably the movie that I've seen the most in my life.  In early '99, I had recently acquired a descrambler (back when those worked), and there were three PPV channels in my area: one that played a normal rotation of movies, one that played one movie repeatedly for an entire day, and BET Action (which played a lot of movies with prominent black actors).  Blade was playing on all three for about 3 weeks, and for most of that time I pretty much just turned my TV to whichever channel was playing Blade.

That isn't to say that I actually watched it all those times, but for the most part, I would be hammering away at my keyboard with Blade running in the background, virtually on loop.  And I did sit down and watch it at least 10 times.

I just watched it again a few months ago.  It's a solid movie.

I liked Let me in, quite a bit, because of it's different approach...

Ahhh come on I love Monster squad (runs over to my movie stash, and throws Monster squad into the Blu-ray player  :D)...[/i]

What?No love for Once Bitten,My best friend is a Vampire,Buffy the vampire slayer,Fright night?

I admit, I like the hokey, cheesy ones from my youth with a little different take...

I liked Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, because of it's little different twist....

The more serious type Interview with a vampire, was too long, and sort of boring for me....
Embrace the Vampire had topless Alyssa Milano...

I barely remember the Lost Boys but I can't get it out of my head...

I liked the first Underworld... Then again I have a thing for Kate Beckinsale...Or 30 days of night probably the best (but if you ask me again in an hour,it might be a something Hokey!  :D )

Yeah, there were a lot that you mentioned, Lil B, that I just haven't seen.  I don't really go for campy.

Leslie Nielsen in "Dead and Loving It". I also liked 30 Days of Night.

I really liked the first Lost Boys (the sequels were unatchable...and straight to video).

I can't think of too many GOOD vampire movies though (and I might be including the Lost Boys, which I liked, but may not be a very good movie).

I liked 30 days of night, but it lacks rewatchability...

I liked Love at First Bite (comedy) when I was a kid.  I wonder if it holds up.

^ That was kinda my reason for posting this in the first place.

I watched that Let Me In movie and thought it was good.  Then, I started thinking where it ranked among vampire movies and I thought it strange that I couldn't really think of anything better.  I, personally, liked From Dusk Till Dawn, but that was more fun and campy.

I think that vampire movies are a well represented genre, but there's not a lot of real quality in it.

I liked the original Underworld too. Kate Beckinsale in black leather is just fine.

Has anyone seen the most recent Underworld? Underworld Awakening. Thoughts?

Kate Beckinsale is married to the director of Underworld.

I have to imagine that he told her, "Hey, instead of changing out of that outfit, why don't you go ahead and bring that home with you?  I'll talk to you some more about it when we're at the house."

I have seen both versions of let me in. I liked the original version the best.
I loved Love at First Bite and Once Bitten.
First Blade was the best, but the other ones are guilty pleasures
Salem's Lot was awesome
Underworld was great, the others were okay, but the newest one put the franchise back into place for the future.
I have not and will not watch Twilight.
I must admit Blacula holds a special spot since I saw it as a kid. Same with Fright Night.

Have to say, I really liked Blade and tolerated the sequels.  I even enjoyed the show on Spike TV (short lived as it was)
