Title: Flynn signs with Seattle
Post by: MikeO on March 18, 2012, 05:25:23 pm
3 years, $26 mill, $10 mill guaranteed

Miami's offer was less

Wow. Just wow. Oh well, so now it's either Alex Smith or David Garrard. Right?

I am now officially on the fire Ireland bandwagon. toke me long enough i guess.

They wouldn't invest $10 mill guaranteed in a potential starting QB who knew the offensive system. It's simply amazing!

It is quite clear that we only wanted him at the right price which tells me the coaching staff was not that high on him.

Coaching staff doesn't pass out contracts. That's what you guys need to understand. Jeff Ireland has it worded in his contract he has FINAL SAY over the roster and contracts. That's why Fisher didn't come here and why Harbaugh balked and left. Also why Gruden and Cowher refused to even interview. No head coach worth anything would come to a team where they have ZERO power over who is on the roster.

Ireland is a 1-man show in Miami. Philbin could have gotten on his knees and begged, it wouldn't have mattered in the end. Ireland has final say on all matters

^^^ or they're just screw ups who don't know how to get a potential starting QB. Does anyone actually know what Philbin thinks of Matt Flynn?

Philbin has been calling Flynn since Day 1 of free agency. Reports as of 3 days ago Miami had told Flynn he was their man. They just got cheap. Real cheap not to give a potential starting QB $10 mill which is peanuts for a starting QB

Which should make the GIANT red flag on him a little more visible now

If true then I don't know what to think. Part of me wants to figure out a way to remove Ireland and Ross from their positions and the other part just accepts that they're screw ups whose time won't come for a while.

Unfortunately the real bums are Ireland and Ross. They will probably outlive the hardest of Dolphin fans at the rate they are going.

Gotta say I'm disappointed. Like I posted in another thread, anything up to $10 a year with what something like a year guaranteed would have been fine with me. Seattle got him for a bit less than that, so... :(

I've been on that bandwagon.  And if I'm Philbin, I pack my bags and leave.  Expose these clowns for who they really are.

Absolute train wreck. Wasn't a big fan of Flynn, but unbelievable. Forget the Madden curse. The Marino Curse is REAL!

Boy I can just laugh at this franchise year after year.. another one slipped away.. Wow.. Well shit im not surprised why should i be.

Flynn played a handful of games last season , still unproven.

Well, I guess we're in the total rebuilding stage now!  I don't have a problem with giving Moore a shot but, you trade away his #1 target?

We're in for another rough season... No threat at receiver a QB that doesn't put fear into anyone's defense and a running game that defenses will just load the box to stop!

This administration makes it tough to remain a Dolphin fan!

I think this is the single worst offseason I've ever witnessed as a Dolphin fan.

The front office failed vigorously and repeatedly.  There was a complete and total lack of direction; they completely ignore RG3 from the start, go after Manning while simultaneously trading away their only Pro Bowl skill position player, don't even make an honest attempt at replacing Marshall, then lowball Flynn.

Ireland needs to be fired.  I thought Mueller made some bonehead decisions, but Ireland has sent this franchise hurtling backwards at breakneck speed.

It takes a special kind of effort to take a 6-10 team and make them DRAMATICALLY worse before a game has even been played.

...exactly, I dont mind rebuilding, taking it easy, maybe going with Moore another season, but why trade away his #1 target at Marshall??? now we're totally screwed, No QB, no WR, average RB, I like Bush but without good passing game Bush will struggle more then ever. We're F*****

Yet Ireland makes it look so effortless!!!

Classic Ireland coming up within a month, watch for it.

-Refused to trade up to RGIII because he and Ross didn't want to "deal with Fisher" after Fisher turned them down
-Begged Manning for an interview when he didn't want to meet with the Fins
-Got cheap with Flynn because they felt no way in hell would a back-up with 2 starts would ever turn them down...lol
-Now toying with Alex Smith who has already stated he doesn't want to leave California or SF and will take less money to stay before he leaves; Fins setting themselves up to be let down again.

And when its all said and done, Miami will end up trading up anyway (for their fallback option) for Tannehill. A guy with 19 career starts at QB who is 2 years away. And they "might" end up trading away MORE than what Washington did to get RGIII who every expert says is much better!

CLASSIC IRELAND! It's coming!

I'm alright with not getting Flynn, or Manning for that matter.  I would have liked to get Manning, but for whatever reason he is choosing to go elsewhere, I would guess Tennesse.  As for Flynn, the Dolphins made the offer they thought was reasonably, and they lost out.  I'm glad they didn't get in a bidding war over an unproven commodity.  The only thing that concerns me about the off season is the loss of Marshall, have to hope for a good draft pick in the second round.

$10M's not exactly cheap, that's right around top 15 money for average QB salaries.  Flynn's not much of an improvement over Moore, who gets $2.5M.

I was really disappointed when we didn't get Manning.  I was okay in not getting Flynn because he is such an unknown.  I don't think Smith would be any better than Moore.  I'd be fine sticking with Moore another year and drafting Cousins later.  I'm not sold on Tannehill and think it would be a huge reach and not worth it.  If it was up to me, I'd trade back and acquire some more draft picks to sure up the rest of the team, and if Moore underperformed, shore up the QB position next year with a stacked team around him.

The base value of Matt Flynn's three-year contract in Seattle is only $19 million, with $10 million guaranteed.
The initial Flynn report claimed he received a three-year, $26 million deal. Per the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel, however, Flynn's base contract is just $19 million with $5 million more available through incentives. It appears the remaining $2 million could be had via "unlikely to be earned" incentives. Either way, it's a much more team-friendly deal than the Cardinals gave Kevin Kolb last offseason. Even if the full "guarantee" is only $2 million less. If both Flynn and Kolb emerged as viable starting quarterbacks, the Seahawks would be paying Flynn much less than the Cardinals would for Kolb.

Ha, it was for even LESS than reported and Pete Carroll already said several times there will be a competition, he isn't guaranteed the job.

Lolphins.

It was $10 mill over 3 years guaranteed!
