Couldn't have happened to a bigger dick...because there isn't one.

After revealing (wrongfully) that Jeremy Shockey was the whistle blower in the Saints bounty scandal, it's safe to say he's getting what he deserves.

It's possible he could be trying to protect himself from a lawsuit from Shockey if one comes down the pike.  I've read the article, and unfortunately, the bankruptcy won't discharge his alimony, child support, or back taxes.

He owns 240 pairs of shoes.  WOW!!!!!!

I don't think you're giving Donald Trump enough credit.

Maybe, if he would've spent $2 million on last week's Mega Millions....

His contract with NFL Network ends in August and with the Shockey thing I am guessing it won't be renewed!

Also, JT got an NFL Network tryout the week of the Super Bowl and did well, I could see them not re-signing Sapp and signing JT to fill that spot very easily.

Kind of tough to feel sorry for a man who makes $45K a month even today after football, who feels the need to own 240 pairs of NIKE sneakers and then files for bankruptcy.

Sapp said this morning he is filing now because he wants to send a message to the new players in this years draft don't do what he did. Yeah right, I kinda don't see this as an act to be a martyr!

The ego on this guy is unbelievable. He STILL thinks that he has something to offer? Please, you have never had anything and you never will. You were blessed to have outstanding talent which makes you think you had something between your ears, but you never did. You're an idiot and the rookies don't need to read that you're filing bankruptcy to figure that out.

Report this morning out of the Boston Globe that NFL Network won't put Sapp on the air anymore. He won't be used and they will pay him to sit home till his contract expires in August and his contract won't be renewed.

240 pairs of shoes at $200 each (if they are all Jordans, or equivalent) is less than $50k.  Holding him to the fire for the amount of sneakers he owns would be the equivalent of one of us declaring bankruptcy and someone saying, "You bought over 2 gigabytes of music from iTunes and you're supposedly bankrupt?!"  The cause of a former millionaire's bankruptcy is not the number of sneakers he has; it's the number of cars he has, the number of houses he has, the number of children he has, and all the parties at Da Club with 5- to 6-digit tabs at the end of the night.

If a one-time difference of $50k was going to make a difference in his bankruptcy, his NFLN job (paying $45k/month) would have been fine.

Did he even buy all those shoes?

I know many NFL players get sneakers for free, because the companies want the pro-athletes to wear their brand.

I agree. I don't believe shoes are what cost him the bankruptcy. Getting a lot of money is a hinderence to many people and athletes all over go broke. Just look at how many lottery winners end up worse off afterwards. If someone with "financial experience" isn't leading the way I believe that many people who started off broke will end up that way regardless of how much money they received.

Secondly .... Let's not forget that bankrupcy doesn't equate to being poor. Depending on many factors people can come out pretty well off. In florida you get to keep your car and your house. Not too mention Sapp says he only has $6.45 million to his name . That's hardly broke to most of us.

ONLY 6.45 million?  Oh poor Warren Sapp.  If you add up all the money I've EVER had in my life I bet it doesn't hit 6.45 million.

That doesn't include his debt. His debt exceeds that amount.

When normal people see debt spiraling out of control, they stop buying shit.  Its called responsibility.  Why is Warren Sapp (and many other athletes) above responsibility?

That is not entirely true.  Many people don't stop buy shit until, the credit card companies shut off their cards for non-payment.  But with rich folks like Sapp is they can get much further underwater before it get to the point that the credit gets shut off.

^^ You're proving my point.

why do you have to wait for your card company to shut of your card for NON PAYMENT?  Because you're rich and irresponsible and can't log in to the web site to see you owe $300k in credit card debt from all the Escalades and jet skis you keep buying?  Do they think they just get them for free?  Apparently, Warren Sapp does.

I would think when you get into the 7-figure+ income range, the concept of logging in to check your credit card balance pretty much goes out of the window.  Do you think he checked his balance on his credit card (or his cable bill, or his cellphone bill) when he was an active player?

So what then, you pay someone to pay your bills for you?  Or you just ignore them because you're rich?

I would imagine the former.  Don't these guys generally have "financial managers" (usually: seedy family member) that handle all of their money concerns?

^^ not sure - I've never been that rich, I've always had to pay my own bills.

So why couldn't the financial manager say "hey bud, maybe dial it back a bit on the spending, cause you don't have enough cash to pay for all of this..."

Or maybe that's exactly what happened right before he declared bankruptcy.

That might work if you have a real financial manager.

However, if your financial manager is a buddy from the hood who dropped out of high school and whose duties also including arrainge what strip club the two of you will be at each night to make it rain.  It probably won't.

Warren graduated from "Debt School"...lol

So now he's learned a valuable lesson:  Only Imelda Marcos is allowed to own so many pairs of shoes.
