Title: Tebow
Post by: MikeO on April 16, 2012, 08:43:46 pm
They put Tebow up on the jumbotron at Yankee Stadium and he get's booo'd! WELCOME TO NY!!! ha ha ha

In other Tebow news some other fool paid $100,000 to spend the day with him.

fuck tebow, i'm so glad he's a jet....can't wait to see the circus that unfolds this year.  all my friends are jets fan and they're all ready to hang themselves.

in defense of the guy who bought tebow, him and his wife are really rich people and are bringing timmy to go spend the day with all the poor kids in the area, it's not so bad.  the quote was kind of hilarious...something along the lines of "hopefully him coming here will fix all these kids problems"  he's not fucking jesus.

Maybe they were booing Dwyane Wade? (who was next to him)  :D  I mean, the Heat had just beaten the Knicks.

Seriously though, I don't see all the hate/booing on the guy. It's not like he killed dogs, cheated on his wife, left his 17 kids, accused of murder etc. He sucks at throwing the ball, ok I get it. It's not like he's the new Jets starting QB.

They had put Tebow on by himself and he got booo'd. When they put him on with Wade the boooo's were louder yes, but Tebow got boooo'd!

The fans have every right to boo.  The Jets needed help at quarterback.  Tebow is not going to fix their problems at that position.

I agree that Tebow won't help them at QB, but it's still douchey.  I don't care for Tebow as a player, but I wouldn't boo him, in general.  I certainly wouldn't boo him if he came to play for Miami and hadn't set foot on the field yet.

Hey- another thread full of negative bullshit about a player that hasn't taken a single snap for his new team, written by a member here whose glass is always half empty. The two different Tebow threads DURING the season weren't enough, so now we're going to bag on the guy in the offseason? Some of you guys wonder why I'm so critical of certain members here- it's this garbage. Who cares if he was booed? How does taking enjoyment in the misfortune of others make anyone's life better? Get over it. -EK

Well, he is the potential QB of our arch-rival.

For that, he can go to hell (coming from a Miami fan).  But I don't understand the motive behind the Jets fans.

Title: Re: Tebow
Post by: EKnight on April 17, 2012, 12:59:19 pm
I actually DO get that, and even though you guys know how much I supported him, I will boo just as much when he's on the field against Miami. But I'm not going to boo him at a baseball game in the offseason, before he has taken a snap, nor would I relish in the fact that others are booing him then. I just don't get it. -EK

Well Yankee Stadium was probably filled with at least half-Giants fans who will Boo him. And the NY radio hosts have been killing the Jets for this move since they traded for him and the Jets fans (in most part) don't want him either. So the Giants fans will boo him because he is on the Jets. The Jets fans who know this was a horrible trade boo him because they don't want him. Tebow is in a lose-lose situation in that city and its only April!

Being a Jets hater, I find it hilarious!

Would you boo Mark Sanchez?
How about Rex Ryan or Bart Scott?

Every week and I always have. Don't confuse the fact that I said Sanchez was having a career year through week 9 or 10 last season with the notion that I somehow like him. -EK

So if you would boo Sanchez, Rex Ryan, or Bart Scott, why wouldn't you boo Tebow?  He's a filthy, stinkin' Jet just like the rest of them.

This is what I mean when I tell you that you seem to want to argue just for the sake of argument. You're either illiterate or purposefully disputatious. I clearly said, "I will boo just as much when he's on the field against Miami." Where's the disconnect at? I answered the "Will you boo Tebow?" question before you even asked it. If he's not playing, I'm not going to boo him. I'm not booing Rex or Bart or Sanchez right now either because...wait for it...they're not on the field.  ::) -EK

I would boo Sanchez, Rex Ryan, or Bart Scott at a youth soccer game. In jest of course. I would boo Tebow as well for being as Jet but that doesn't mean I do not like him. I don't get New Yorkers booing him other than they are New Yorkers.

Personally I think his calling in New York is bigger than football. Someone is going to get saved!  ;) ;D

You seem to have misunderstood my original question.  Let's try again:

I actually DO get that, and even though you guys know how much I supported him, I will boo just as much when he's on the field against Miami. But I'm not going to boo him at a baseball game in the offseason, before he has taken a snap, nor would I relish in the fact that others are booing him then. I just don't get it. -EK
To repeat:

Would you boo Mark Sanchez?
How about Rex Ryan or Bart Scott?

Lol, I didn't misunderstand it- you should have been more clear. To the point then, no, I wouldn't waste my time booing another player when he is out at a non-related event. I take no solace in the misery or taunting of others. -EK

I would boo Rex Ryan if he were on the screen at a HEAT game.

I leave it to the reader to determine how booing Mark Sanchez at a Heat game is "taking solace in misery or taunting", but booing Mark Sanchez at a Dolphins game is apparently nothing of the sort.

Does Mark Sanchez lose the right to Basic Human Dignity (or whatever you think booing does) when he's on the field against your favorite team?

Yeah. I thought that was pretty well an un-written rule. Fans can do almost whatever they want when the athletes are on the field. When they're off the field, you don't really harass them, or you shouldn't.

I think it's acceptable if they're in the public square, especially in a prominent place.   If I saw Rex Ryan at dinner, I wouldn't boo him at his table.  But if I saw him on the jumbo-tron at an event, I certainly would.  I think it's all in fun.

I don't get why you would "boo" someone outside of their sports venue at all. Many of you find it to be not very "adult" to wear jerseys, but booing someone like an 8 year old is ok? How's that work? -EK

Again, if booing someone is childish, why do it at all?  Ever?

I mean, I can totally understand the position that booing a person, period, is ridiculous (I'm not a big fan of it, myself), but the idea that it's immature to boo Rex Ryan in Miami unless the Jets are playing right this moment is kind of silly.

I have gone to Walmart in full jersey/gear after a game and see fans in opposing team gear and boo'd them.  In jest of course.  They boo me back.  What's the big deal?

Title: Re: Tebow

Sports is theater.  There are heroes and villains.  It's perfectly acceptable to boo the villains, be they the other team or the refs.  It's part of the show.  I would argue that when these very public figures show up in other prominent events, especially those where they are featured to the public on a big screen or what have you, that it still constitutes part of that audience/villain relationship.  I think both sides understand their role in that.

I find it inappropriate to boo when a celebrity is not making use of their celebrity status, like in a private moment.  Though I would laugh if Rex were walking down the street and got heckled, I myself wouldn't do the heckling.

6. NFL Player Ndamukong Suh — $2,600,000

$2 million to the Nebraska University athletic department and another $600,000 to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering to endow a scholarship. It is the largest single gift ever from a former football player.

Wow! I was asking the question in jest, but that's pretty amazing. I'm sure there are lots of people who will say, "hey, he makes enough, he SHOULD give that much," but there are tons of other athletes who makes as much or more who didn't give that amount. Good for Suh. That's very cool. In answer to someone else's point about Tebow, I don't know how much he gave last year, but two years ago he donated almost all of his signing bonus ($2.5 million) to several charities, and funded a hospital in the Phillipines to the tune of $3 million last year. Not sure why he isn't listed on the Forbes list for that? -EK

It is misleading to say that Tim Tebow personally "funded a hospital in the Phillipines to the tune of $3 million."

http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2011/11/15/tim-tebow-building-hospital-in.html

"The foundation started by Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow will help finance construction of a children’s hospital in the Philippines.

Donors to the Tim Tebow Foundation and CURE International, which announced a partnership in October, will share the $3 million cost. This is the first joint project for the two organizations."

But boooo'd  with reason. Holmes QUIT on his team last game of the year on the field late in the game. Jets still had a shot at the playoffs when he did that. He deserves to be booo'd. Sanchez was a bad player last year, he deserved to get bo'do. New Yorkers are smart enough to see through the Tebow BS and media hype and know he sucks plus they hate the trade which is why he got booo'd!
