DIRECTV is cutting the price of the NFL Sunday Ticket to $200! A 40% cut in its price!

I just saw this,and was ecstatic (even though DirectV has been a pain in my ass the last 6 months or so) I'm even more happy that I wont have to pay for those extra things that I don't use, like shortcuts,red zone,and NFLsunday ticket to go....I just want to see the games (in HD) for $199...I love it....

Now hopefully I can pay that in one lump sum,without calling 3 times....

For once a company does good and gives the people what they want. For years people have been complaining about the Sunday Ticket getting more and more expensive (and it was) and out of control. And you had to call and fight to get a few bucks off, and it was a hassle. By doing this they will get good PR, keep the customers (NFL ones at least) very happy, and probably attract a lot of new customers.

I mean if you are Dolphins fan and don't live in south florida and just really want the Dolphins games, it essentially costs you $12.50 per (game) week to watch them play (considering they really have no national TV games minus the Thursday night thing). $12.50 is reasonable and nobody can complain about that. And that's just for watching your team play and not every other game you get!

That's also not including your DirecTV monthly subscription, which you must have in order to sign up for Sunday Ticket in the first place.

For non-DirecTV customers, this is not an insignificant detail.

uh, I thought that was a given and didn't need to be explained! Obviously if you don't have DIRECTV you can't get DIRECTV programming!

Wait, so Sunday Ticket WAS $500?

That's preposterous.  Who would pay that?

No it was around $350 or so.

When you don't get see may-be 3 games all year.On a good year,Even when the Dolphins are the game of the week playing the Jets,or Pats,it will get bumped by the Chiefs,or rams games locally.When you go to a sports bar (even ones with 30 T.v.s) and convince someone to put the Dolphins game on (ussually with no sound) surrounded by Chiefs,Rams,Cowboys,Broncos fans to see the Dolphins games...It's going to cost you something to drink or eat,and have a bad game experience...It make the NFL Sunday ticket worth it...

Once you have it,and seeing every game from your couch,it's an addiction...I want it, I don't care,I'll find away to get it,give me,give me,give me...I'd pay it,last years screw up with my receiver,and billing problems each year are my biggest downfalls.The cost hurts,but so does loving the Dolphins sometimes...

Mike's right it's about $350-$360,and it seems to go up about $10-$20 a year...

It's one of the things, I save the amount of my tax return,or save for each year to pay all at once...I've always hated the 5 or 6 payments added to my monthly bill.They start in July,then in August (both High summer utility months) Then continuing through November-December  (getting colder,and have the holidays).

I can't imagine,MLB extra innings,and the NFLsunday ticket payments both added to the normal bill in July,and August :o :o :o

My 2 cents on the issue...

If you add up my bar bills for food and drink each Sunday I likely pass this by a mile.

We are on the same page with all of this. I like to pay for it all at once too, because those installments seem to never end paying it over 6 months.

Plus, being an out of town Dolphins fan, a fantasy football player, and someone who likes to put down some cash each week on the games (just for fun of course..he he), being able to watch every game from my house is a nice luxury! And if you really break down the cost its no different than taking the little lady to a movie each week! Divide the total cost by 17 and thats what you are paying for each week. And now with the reduced cost its almost nothing, talking about $12 a week! For that much entertainment its a steal!!

Going to a bar each week is an investment in time and money. A lot more expensive than just paying for the package and watching at home when you factor in the cost for all the beer and food you end up buying. For a 1pm game you gotta show up at least 30 min early (sometimes more) and find the TV the game is on (being Miami its usually some side TV and not the main attraction of the day), get a table, and you are trapped there for over 3 hours. Ties up your whole day. Being able to watch at home is so much cheaper and much more convenient.

I'm glad DirecTV is doing this.  I also pay it all at once, and me and the wife haggle during that one month where the DirecTV bill is jacked up.


With the price cut, you'll now pass it by a country mile.  Might wanna consider investing in it and buying beers to drink at home.  Much cheaper than going to a bar.

A bit off topic but...

Not that it makes a huge difference to me at this point, as I have recently moved into the home market of my favorite team.

But lets say two football fans are friends and both root for the same out of market football team.  Person A has Sunday ticket.  Person B does not.  Person B comes over each Sunday to watch their favorite team play. 

Should person B....

a) offer to pay half of the Sunday ticket fee

b) provide the snacks and booze each week

c) something else

I say A or B. If it were me I would just want B if it were my house and my friend came over each week.

Option A or B both sound good.  I, personally wouldn't care either way but if I had to make a choice, I'd go with option B.

Yup, that is exactly where I am at. Being new in the area I live (Prescott, AZ.) I tried the sports bar for 1 game last year. I was the only Dolphin fan and was surrounded by Cards, Stealers and Packer fans with the AZ. blaring through the entire place. The Fin game was on a tiny TV in a dark corner next to the broom closet. I was home before 1/2 time.

Option B not to exceed 15 bucks a week. Bring a pizza and a 6 pack or a couple of nice subs.

I've had Directv (and NFL Sunday ticket since 2001) So I'm glad my sports bar experience is still right... :D I had our local Cable company for a few years,and it was a nightmare...Then just OTA,no cable,and living in an area with no cable service available...(The big dishes were expensive back then)

On Hoodies Question...C)  Something else....

My house is a  A. #1 priority Dolphins house,then a B. priority #2 Chicago Bears house.Those are the games that are on during the season...then everything else...It has varied every year,but mostly it's my Chicago Bear Family members..My mom is here,my nephew and kids,and some of my very close friends....My close friends aren't hardcore football people,they're not really here for the football,it's more of a gathering/get together eat and have fun...I don't drink,and neither do most of the people I do hang out with.

Part of that I guess is this...

I have live in a small old house,my shack,in a bad neighborhood......The house is ruled by my dogs,think territorial Sheldon from big bang theory...with teeth,instead of that's my spot...I don't get a lot of people that just want to crash my house,It's my inner sanctum also so I have to think pretty highly of that person to be in my house, ruled by my dogs.They like to make sure people know they rule the house...
