Title: NFL Draft- Winners & Losers Post by: Landshark on April 29, 2012, 07:28:28 am Quote Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland – Perhaps the most embattled executive in the league, Ireland could have easily given in to desperation, particularly after there were so many trades on Thursday (six of the top seven picks, counting St. Louis shipping No. 2 in March, were dealt and the No. 6 pick was traded twice). Instead, Ireland sat tight and got the player he wanted all along in quarterback Ryan Tannehill. This is the first time since 1983 that the Dolphins have used a first-round pick on a quarterback. It was about time. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--nfl-draft-winners-losers-redskins-qualify-as-both-after-taking-robert-griffin-iii--kirk-cousins.html Title: Re: NFL Draft- Winners & Losers Post by: MikeO on April 29, 2012, 07:43:05 am Ireland did well. I think 2 solid drafts for him in a row. Mainly just focusing on the offense because this is an offensive league these days.
The offense going forward looks like it is part of this century and has some speed on it. A Tight End in Egnew who is a threat in the passing game, Miami hasn't had that since Ferrell Edmunds/Keith Jackson days. A 1-2 punch at running back of Thomas/Miller that you hope can improve and take their game to the next level over the next couple years. A home run hitter WR in Gates with top flight speed. Pouncey and Martin to help Jake Long on the o-line, helping make that unit viable again and have less turnover of players there. Miami can put a o-line unit together and keep it together instead of the constant turnover like we have had! Charles Clay a true H-Back and match-up nightmare for opponents which we saw flashes of last year at time when he was healthy enough to play. And oh yeah we got this Tannehill kid in the Top 10 to play QB! The job isn't done on offense, but the foundation has been laid at least! Ireland has done very well and had a good past 3 days I feel. Addressed most of the needs, can never get them all when you are a less than medioctre team to begin with. Now it's up to the coaching staff, and draftees. With an easy schedule to start the season (which will give the new team time to develop), things are looking good for the upcoming season.
