Title: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: Frimp on May 09, 2012, 01:37:52 am I am scheduled to take the aptitude test on May 22 to become a cop.
My reasons for this are that I have always had an interest since I was 19, when I had a car stolen from me, but Florida makes you pay for the academy, and you arent guaranteed a job. In SC, you are hired prior to going to the academy, and are on the payroll 3 weeks before you start. Now, over the past few years, I have lost a couple good jobs due to downsizing, etc. So, I figure this would be a stable career that I can advance in, and it would also be a job that I can transfer anywhere. Basically, a last stop career. Any suggestions? Title: Re: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: Landshark on May 09, 2012, 06:28:50 am Good luck. The only advice I can give is don't bring your work home with you, and don't bring your home life to work.

I don't plan on being a neighborhood watch captain. ;) Title: Re: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: EKnight on May 09, 2012, 12:04:18 pm For the love of God, know the freaking traffic laws before you pull someone and write a ticket. I live in SC and have had three tickets that should have never been written dropped when I went to court because the cop didn't know how to interpret the law. -EK

Title: Re: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: JVides on May 10, 2012, 12:31:04 pm Good luck! Get your 20 in, retire with a full pension, and take a job in another county's Sherriff's office. The pension/salary double whammy!
Title: Re: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: Phishfan on May 10, 2012, 01:52:37 pm At Frimp's age if he does 20 for his pension he'll be too old to work anywhere else then :D
Title: Re: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: Frimp on May 10, 2012, 02:15:29 pm I do plan on retiring with full pension. I could run for sheriff I guess at that point. lol
Title: Re: Guess what! (new career attempt) Post by: raptorsfan29 on May 10, 2012, 02:21:16 pm i was also thinking of becoming a cop. But always being depressed has put a stop to it right now, I'm pretty sure the makings of a good cop doesn't include a debbie downer personality.
