Title: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: Brian Fein on May 22, 2012, 05:45:28 pm I am not posting a link because I refuse to drive traffic to their site.
PFT is reporting that Vontae Davis missed today's OTA and wrote a "coach wouldn't say why" story about it. Complete with a picture of Cameron Wake. Miami Dolphins officials already reported that Vontae was at today's OTA in helmet and working out. When will this crap-fest web site stop getting props as a worthy news site when it continues to blatantly publish lie after lie just for the hits/ratings? How Mike Florio got his lie-fest site to be backed by a reputable news source like NBC Sports is beyond me. Title: Re: SHOCKING! I have seen elsewhere that Davis did not practice. I just re-read that he was at practice and in a helmet but may not have been on the field. But he was definitely not "absent" as reported by PFT. Apparently PFT has now updated their story to show that Vontae is injured.Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: MikeO on May 22, 2012, 06:31:31 pm It's friggin May. If he misses a practice or two or all of them its not a big deal! It's not like he is a QB or WR trying to learn a new offensive system where he needs to gel with teammates. He is a CB. CB's jobs don't change much if any in a defense whether there is a new scheme or not. Cover the guy you stand in front of! As long as he is there in late July and in shape, none of this matters for him.
PFT making a mountain out of a molehill here. Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: MikeO on May 22, 2012, 06:41:17 pm Ben Volin is reporting this
Cornerback Vontae Davis was the only starter who didn't participate, but said his undisclosed injury isn't too serious. Running back Jerome Messam (meniscus surgery last week) and undrafted rookie running back Jonas Gray (undisclosed injury) worked off to the side Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: fyo on May 22, 2012, 08:06:47 pm Like Mike said, it's May... and with that also comes dearth of football news and the associated complete lack of national interest in the sport.

Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: Brian Fein on May 23, 2012, 10:11:29 am PFT is not a valid NFL news source. Never has been, never will be. Tell that to NBC Sports. They are masquerading as a legit news site, and people who don't know any better take their word for everything. 50% of the "stories" they report are blatantly false, just to get the scoop.Title: Re: SHOCKING! PFT reports under News and "Rumors". I'd say they weren't reporting things as gospel but I always thought that was a given. They also manage to scoop people at times because they aren't afraid to post things that are hearsay. It's a give and take balance you have to understand as you arer reading it IMHO. Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: Brian Fein on May 23, 2012, 11:20:39 am Just thinking they put the word "rumors" there to make their irresponsible reporting more acceptable. There's no journalistic integrity.
Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: bsfins on May 23, 2012, 11:27:47 am I don't read the site, but to add to what CF just said, and reading what Phish, said in a post in the OBT section....
I'd put PFT as an "enabler" they take the tiniest little hear say throw it out there, and make the beat reporters chase it down, confirm,or deny it... When I read a report by them (Via a retweet on twitter or posted here) I go find out if it's legit from other sources...Since I don't read them, a lot of the time, I don't find out what they say till they are mentioned by a beat reporter, already dismissing it,or confirming it... I honestly don't want to hear any Dolphins NEWS right now, because it's usually bad...Someone got seriously injured,Arrested,etc... Title: Re: SHOCKING! More irresponsible journalism from ProFootballLies.com Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 23, 2012, 12:57:28 pm I read the story. It said that Vontae Davis was the only one not at the OTAs and that in the quote sheet provided by the Dolphins that the coach would not answer why.
There was nothing inaccurate in PFT's regeritating of the Dolphin's own press release. Although it was not as complete as stories later posted by reporters who actually attended the media event. PFT does a pretty good job at agregating the news about 32 teams from hundreds news outlets. If you want news about one team and one team only -- you are better off following a couple of beat reporters. If you want news about all 32 your choices are ESPN, NLF.com, or PFT. Of the three PFT is the most complete. Title: Re: SHOCKING! I think that if you used all of ESPN's assets...like ESPN Local, you wouldn't consider PFT the most complete. http://espn.go.com/espn/local/index (http://espn.go.com/espn/local/index) I can't stand PFT...shoddy reporting, unconfirmed hype and rampant rumormongering. Title: Re: SHOCKING! E.g. Miami for the Dolphins, Boston for the Pats. But you need 31 locals to get news about all the teams. PFT is pretty good if you just want to look at one page for all 32 teams. PFT could be worse. What they offer outweighs the negatives. It is just football; I would push for a higher standard in political reporting. I will refrain from any comments on Fox news and their irresponsible reporting habits. Title: Re: SHOCKING! It sounds like you're thinking about the separate sites for ESPNLosAngeles, ESPNBoston, etc... That's not what I was talking about. Go to that page I linked to, click on the drop downs for the individual sports and you'll see "all" teams listed. Title: Re: SHOCKING! There was nothing inaccurate in PFT's regeritating of the Dolphin's own press release. Except that it is false, because Vontae WAS at the OTA. Just because he had some injury doesn't mean he wasn't there. They had a line in there about something to do with his brother's murder trial, as if to insinuate he was somehow involved. |
