How fast they fall.... Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: MikeO on June 08, 2012, 06:53:52 pm No longer a meaningful player in this league.

LOL, what a terrible career for a 2 overall pick. Don't draft crappy rbs who were splitting carries in college. More like don't draft them in the first round, let alone the top five. He showed some flashes of being a great running back, so the talent was obviously there. But he didn't have the durability nor the consistency to carry the load on a game to game basis. LOL, what a terrible career for a 2 overall pick. #2 overall picks of the last decade, according to pro-football-reference:2012- Robert Griffin III, WSH - TBD 2011- Von Miller, DEN - 1 Pro Bowl, primary starter for his first year 2010- Ndamukong Suh, DET - 1 All-Pro, 1 Pro Bowl, primary starter for 2/2 years 2009- Jason Smith, STL - 0 Pro Bowls, primary starter for 1/3 years 2008- Chris Long, STL - 0 Pro Bowls, primary starter for 3/4 years 2007- Calvin Johnson, DET - 1 All-Pro, 2 Pro Bowls, primary starter for 5/5 years 2006- Reggie Bush, NO - 0 Pro Bowls, primary starter for 5/6 years 2005- Ronnie Brown, MIA - 1 Pro Bowl, primary starter for 6/7 years 2004- Robert Gallery, OAK - 0 Pro Bowls, primary starter for 7/8 years 2003- Charles Rogers, DET - 0 Pro Bowls, primary starter for 0/3 years Ronnie Brown was neither exceptional nor a bust. He was an above-average return on investment at that position. Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: SCFinfan on June 09, 2012, 09:06:12 pm He made a great tag-team w/ Ricky. He seemed to run the wildcat just fine.
He wasn't bad, he just stepped into some rather huge shoes (Ricky's) and he was never going to be Ricky. At best, he was a guy that could carry the ball 10 - 16 times again and wear the defense down a bit. Then, hand it off to your quicker back who'll take advantage at the tired/worn defense. Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: masterfins on June 10, 2012, 05:28:24 pm Ronnie is just the kind of guy that plays good in a two back set, however he can't be the lone star. He wasn't a bust, but he wasn't an all pro either.

He wasn't a bust, but he wasn't an all pro either. Being average to above average doesn't give good value to being drafted second overall. Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: Spider-Dan on June 14, 2012, 08:31:24 pm Then the overwhelming majority of #2s are busts.
Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: Landshark on June 14, 2012, 11:24:25 pm Then the overwhelming majority of #2s are busts. I'd say Ronnie was more of a reach than a bust. He showed some flashes of being an elite back but couldn't do it consistently. For a guy who split carries in college and wasn't even a starter half the time, #2 overall was too high to pick him Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: EKnight on June 15, 2012, 07:54:41 am All this talk about Brown makes me more nervous about Tannehill. I can just see it five years from now- "For a guy who only started one season I'm college at QB, #8 was a reach/bust." -EK

Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: tubba marxxx on June 15, 2012, 06:16:58 pm Ronnie Brown > Aaron Rodgers
:: sigh :: Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: EKnight on June 15, 2012, 08:31:11 pm Yeah but to be fair, there were also 22 other guys drafted ahead of Rodgers. I can't blame Miami for doing that...or not doing it as it were. -EK
Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: mecadonzilla on June 15, 2012, 11:42:57 pm There's also a good chance Aaron Rogers may not have been "all that" without spending all that time with Green Bay before he started playing. I've often wondered if that kept him from being another Kyle Boller.
I can fault the Dolphins for many draft errors in recent years, but picking Ronnie Brown over Rogers is not one. He was better than Cadillac for sure, and RB was one of the clear needs of that team entering the draft. Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on June 16, 2012, 12:46:25 pm Then the overwhelming majority of #2s are busts. I agree with Spider. Ronnie Brown wasn't a bust. He underachived given his draft position but still was a very good player. I hold the same view of L. Maroney of NE, didn't do as much as I hoped given that he was drafted but still brought quite a bit to the team. A player drafted in the first round that in hindsight should have been drafted in round 2 is not a bust. Would anyone been unhappy with Brown if he was the 34th pick overall? Title: Re: Former Dolphin Ronnie Brown signs with Chargers Post by: miamiwestchester on July 08, 2012, 10:44:42 am I'm on the skeptical RT list too. I think he'll be no better than Henne in the long-run and it'll be just one more of the monumental mistakes this franchise has been prone to make over the last 10+ years.
I always said to myself back in the Marino years, 'Enjoy this because it won't last forever' and I was right, but I never thought the Dolphins franchise could fall off this badly. |
