also from his twwitter feed Dolphins made concessions to make deal palatable, but Ryan Tannehill was unwilling to miss more time to continue fight on offset language. Couldn't have the holdout go long and get bad PR especially with HBO cameras documenting the whole damn thing. But couldn't back off the "offset language" and come off looking weak either. Cause then every agent would literally rape them in all deals since it would be out there that if you wait them out Miami will cave.
Deal probably has some "weak" offset language in it that is minor just so they can say..."see we got something" and Tannehill got something else bumped up in another area of his contract just to get the thing over with. All in all a 1 day hold out. Misses only 2 practices and 2 walk-through's. Not the end of the world. ESPN's Adam Schefter writes that the Dolphins included offset language into the contract (which means the team won't have to pay him if it releases him before his contract is up and he finds a new NFL job).-CBS Sports
Not a big Ireland fan, but this seems to be the future contract for draft picks, hence saving the owners money on busts. Let's face it , Tannehil is a PROJECT...no way near an Andrew Luck or RG3.... Glad to see him in camp, though...want this guy to succeed and become the QB this franchise needs to compete with the elite. But why hold out if you're going ti give in to the main reason why you held out? I don't know the wording in the contract. But if they insist on "offset" language. Then I would insist on no team option. Since you can't control the franchise tag, you can at least hold them to 4 "cheap" years. Either way, glad he's signed. Play Ball!

Interesting tidbit that came out yesterday or the day before from Ben Volin of the PBP. That EVERY contract the Dolphins have given out since 2010 has offset language. Moore, Bush, Brandon Marshall, Richard Marshall...etc all have some form of offset language. The only one who doesn't have it is Dansby but that was around the time they made this policy decision so. What will get interesting is if they go after a "BIG NAME" guy one of these years in free agency and the only way to get him is if the guy flat out says I will sign but I ain't accepting the offset language. Then we will see if Miami sticks to their guns or caves. Here is the Ben Volin tidbit.... A league source said the Dolphins were insistent on including the offset language only as a matter of principle, and not because of anything to do with Tannehill’s potential. According to the source, the Dolphins made it an organizational policy in 2010 to include offset language in every free agent contract, and every player signed by the Dolphins since then – Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush, Matt Moore, Richard Marshall – has offset language in his contract (only Karlos Dansby, signed in 2010, is the only one who does not have offset language in his contract). |
