according to Ben Volin they plan on putting JT and Zach in the honor roll this year

I am considering going to the Rams game just to see this.

Kinda soon for JT, though, huh?  He only retired not even a year ago.

Only reason you do these things is to sell tickets. That's why they picked the worst 2 games to do them for. Jax and Rams are the worst 2 home games so, make ya go to the garbage games to see this.

No such thing as "too soon" for JT (unless you think he might unretire, which seems highly unlikely).  It's not like he's on the bubble or something.

I wonder if we'll retire his green Jets jersey, too.

That's about as likely as them retiring his Redskins jersey, or Zach's Cowboys jersey, or Csonka's Giants jersey, or Warfield's Browns jersey.

****I think even for ticket sales,Zach this year (He should have even gone in last year maybe) then Taylor next year or two...3 people this year...****It seems like we're putting in a lot of players in a short amount of time... That Ring is going to get crowded fast.

I'm not arguing deserving,or not...But I am curious whom is left to put in...We're already up to Zach and Jason...Jason just retiring...

there's space, but like you said, there won't be anyone new for a while.  unless they keep digging up random people from the 70's.  I don't think they're being selective enough in that regard, to be honest.

The only remaining players from the post-Marino era that even have a shot are Jake Long and Madison/Surtain (maybe Wake if he continues his trajectory and has a long career).  There isn't much to worry about from current-era players.

If it's really about selling tickets, you don't put them in on the same game in the same year. One in this year, one next- twice the chance to upsell tickets. Putting them in on the same day only helps tickets for one game. -EK

I wonder if they wanted them to go in together, because they were drafted together and played most of their careers together.  They are like a couple.

^^^ They were not drafted together. Looking at the past inductees, they do seem to like to pair them together if it fits and Zach and Jason fit about as well as any pair of Dolphins you could ever think of.

They haven't been selective for a while. I don't want to say it has turned into a joke, but it has been watered down a lot lets just say. The day Richmond Webb went in it stopped being important. Not that Webb wasn't a great player but he isn't a "RING OF HONOR" type of player. Once they put in Webb they started putting in Betters, Baumhower types. Once again, "nice" players, good players, but not Ring of Honor type players by any means. If the "new" goal is to add someone every year then its a joke and can't be treated seriously. If they are going to use it as a way to sell tickets to a bad game then the ring of honor has no value going forward.

Seriously? Maybe your should refresh your memory on how dominant Webb was during his Dolphin tenure. 4X All Pro is pretty impressive and Ring worthy if you ask me.

Um, if you want to pick a name to single out as unworthy of the Honor Roll, Webb isn't a good choice.  Webb was a 7-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time first-team All-Pro at a very important position, protecting one of the best QBs in the history of the game.

If they needed to start trimming the Honor Roll, Duper should be the first to go, and TBH, Clayton shouldn't be far after him.  Neither of those players have a remote chance of getting into the HOF, while players like Webb and Zach can at least make an argument.

In my opinion I would get rid of half the names honestly. Ring of Honor should be for HALL OF FAMERS only or people with a special connection with the franchise over the years. Joe Robie, Jim Mandich types..etc

The Duper, Clayton's, Webb's, Betters, Baumhower, hell even Zach probably shouldn't be up there. I think that stuff should be for the "best of the best" and not just any good player who came through over the years. JT is going to the hall of fame so I got no problem with him being up there.

Number of pro bowls a guy went to isn't a good judge either, the pro bowl is a joke and how players get there is a joke and has been for many years now (ie during Webb's time playing too). All Pro is something to hang your hat on though.

I think the Honor Roll is the proper place for Dolphins that are just short of the HOF, but still meant a lot to the franchise.  IMO, it is created for players like Richmond Webb and Zach Thomas.  (Why have the Honor Roll if it is simply a re-listing of Dolphins in the Hall of Fame?)

They aren't retiring numbers or anything.  Even guys like Duper, who weren't particularly dominant as players, held a special place in the hearts of the fans.  So why not honor them?

You can honor them with a plaque outside the stadium or something. Cleveland does that and only puts their elite players in the honor roll. I would leave the Honor Roll for best of the best. But that's just me. I think the Browns do it right.

Eventually if you let everyone who made a couple pro bowls in the honor roll you become football's version of the NY Yankees. For them if  you have a good month they give you a day and put a plaque up in monument park. Have a good few years they retire you number. And I'm a Yankees Fan!! But they have bastardized the whole thing and teams in all sports are starting to follow which I think is bad.

Spcifically why no one mentioned Pro Bowl but you (we specifically stated All Pro). How many All Pros do you think Zach should have before being considered a viable option (and please do not look it up before answering)?

And no, I don't agree that the Pro Bowl is "a joke," particularly when you are talking about "fame" or "honor."  Even if Pro Bowl spots are awarded based on reputation more than strict performance... doesn't that necessarily mean that a player has outstanding fame?

I agree.  Patriots have something similiar.  For example Bledsoe is in Patriots place, but is clearly not HOF material. 

There are also players that belong in the HOF but not in any teams honor roll.  For example Randy Moss.  Belongs in the HOF, but I couldn't see any team inducting them into their own team ring of honor. 

The Vikings probably should put Moss in their Ring of Honor and they probably will at some point down the road when they get their new stadium. Might be many many years but they probably will.  He gave them 6 years of just hall of fame level play. I know it ended badly with them but still. Time heels all wounds.  (JT and Miami made up...lol)
