Title: Chris Hogan
Post by: MikeO on August 15, 2012, 07:07:58 am
Hogan might be Danny Woodhead 2.0 after what we saw last night. A guy who makes a name for himself on Hard Knocks (like Woodhead did), who might get cut, then will go someplace else and be a very good player. I hope Miami finds a way to keep this kid around on the 53 man roster. Not like he has to beat out a bunch of great guys on the depth chart ahead of him. lol

I love how Hogan plays, but he's mainly played with the third stringers and it's hard to know if he can still get open when matched up against the best players. Most of the Hard Knocks shots had him against Tyrell Johnson (who is apparently our 3rd string safety), but he did fake out Reshad Jones (but it took him a long time -- time he might not have in a real game) and also turned around Chris Clemons once.

Bottom line, I'd love to see him get a chance against better guys, but the coaches aren't going to give it to him against Carolina. He's buried DEEP on this week's depth chart.

I usually am skeptical about a guy like this, but I have to admit he has some pretty nice moves.  He seems very good at freezing the corner.  He really looks to commit one direction and be able to change directions quickly.

Good stuff.

Is he close to being cut?  He seems to be having a good time in practice, making the catches he can, and even getting open in the preseason.  Plus, the position doesn't have anyone who's a lockup for the spot.

Who knows? The coaches have only said good things about him on Hard Knocks, but he's 10th of 11 WRs on the depth chart this week and he doesn't seem to be an obvious special teams contributor. Hopefully, I'm wrong in that regard.

and hiding him on the practice squad with all the pub he got last night will be difficult

How come I have a feeling that if Hogan is cut he will go straight to NE and be a star. The kid reminds me of many Pats players and guys Belichick loves.

Hogan's stats for the game: 4 targets, 3 receptions, 2 first downs, 1 special teams tackle.

The first reception was with Moore at quarterback, so at least he got a little time against better players (even if not the starters).

The team won't have to make any moves until after the next (third) preseason game, but Hogan clearly has to shine in the third game to stand a chance of making the team.

I like the guy... he seems to have a lot of the qualities we see from Bess and Welker, but he is more powerfully built (although he doesn't run that way) and significantly taller. He's the same height as Chad Johnson, but 30 pounds heavier.

I really hope he makes the team... seems like he's done everything right when given the chance, but when you're starting at the bottom of a 90-man roster, you just don't get a lot of chances.

When veterans dub you "7-11", you're definitely doin something right. Love what I see from him.

I don't see him surviving first cuts.  But what do I know?

He'll be one of those guys we see tearing it up somewhere else in 3 years, and we'll say "wasn't he in Dolphins camp a long time ago?"

I'll be disappointed if he's cut.  I think that the more and more I follow this stuff, it seems like the coaches are going to keep the guys they think are most physically apt to play the position, and ditch the rest, regardless of their intangibles, work ethic, etc.

Hogan gets open and catches the ball.  You need to find a spot on the roster for someone who does that.

And to think, that a receiver was supposed to get open and catch the ball. Next thing you'll see is NY starting a non throwing QB. But that would never happen.

The coaches seem to love him. I think its actually Hartline that is in trouble.

We've seen this before, Hartline will be cut, then go to either the Jets (Sparano may want him) or the Patriots (just to stick to us) and he becomes a star.

That would be our luck.....

Hartine isn't going to be cut

Wasn't Hartline supposed to be Miami's no. 1 before he got hurt? No chance he's cut. -EK

^^ Agreed.  Hartline is injured, and on a staff as thin as ours he will not be cut.

Does anyone know if the new rules for injured reserve players are in effect?  If so, the Dolphins might be wise to stash Hartline on injured reserve.

Nope. And since he practiced on the 1st day of camp he can't go on PUP. So he goes on IR and is out for the year. Or he eats up a roster spot and doesn't play while he keeps rehabbing for the next however many weeks/months.

You two agreed on something! Yay!  I also agree that Hartline won't be cut.
