Title: Shame of the Game vs Raiders
Post by: Landshark on September 16, 2012, 04:14:01 pm
My Shame of the Game goes to Nolan Carroll.  I hope he never becomes an insurance agent because he can't cover anything.

Naanee. He's a waste of a roster spot. Ran the wrong route on the 1 and only pass that Tannehill threw his way. I doubt he get's another pass his way the rest of this year. Armstrong needs to get healthy in a hurry.

Don't think I can pick one this week because everything went so well.  Maybe Carroll is the only person it can be

Jake Long had some tough moments out there today pass blocking.  Dansby was suspect in his pass defense.  I'll give them each .5 SotG points and they can share the honor.

Also, I should point out this is my 1,000th post.  Why aren't balloons falling in my room after I hit "post?" ;D

Because you didn't post pictures of half naked ladies in the off topic forum

I'm giving to Dansby.  After Halftime most of Long's problems with Shaughnessy seemed to get straightened out.  Dansby is a liability in pass coverage and it showed again today.  If I'm Dustin Keller, I'm licking my chops this week.

I'm not sure how you can give it to anyone on defense. They gave up 13 points and dominated against the run. They held the Raiders to 1 for 13 on third downs. It was a great performance overall.

I actually give it to a whole position. Until we find that third receiver we are going to have a tough time. This isn't high school where you just use receivers as decoys. That won't continue to work.

Agreed. Naanee is a waste of space. I'd rather see the rookie Matthews in there. Hopefully Armstrong will be healthy by next week. He tweaked a hammy last week and was inactive, that's the only reason that Naanee was still out there.

Without a doubt, Naanee. When you can't even live up to the hype of being a "serviceable" receiver, you're going to get this award. Shame, Mr. Naanee.

Because thankfully, Oakland's TEs suck.  You stop McFadden and the plain truth of it is, they don't have much else.  We play a team with even an average recieving TE and the defense is going to give up some points.

We have linebackers and safeties taking shitty angles all over the place and there isn't a linebacker on our roster I don't think who can cover a good recieving TE.  Burnett is the best of the three at this and even he's marginal.

Our secondary isn't good enough to cover this weakness, and I guarantee barring a small miracle it's going to show up against the Jets next week.

Don't forget, if Carson Palmer puts the ball where the TE or receiver could have caught it, they would have had some very large gains or a TD because of how bad the Dansby and some others were in coverage.

My single ultimate beef with the team on Sunday I have voiced elsewhere, the only scores were down to players not getting off their blocks, taking bad pursuit angles and making bad decisions to contain the play stepping inside rather than out.

Add to that some suspect pass coverage.

That's defensive coaching 101, the things they should go through week one in training camp so it's all on the coach which I guess is the Defensive Coordinator..

Kevin Coyle get my SOTG.

(I think a nomination for the goat should at least come with some rationale to back it up rather than "he's a waste of a roster spot")

^^^^  Disagree only because it's not all 11 guys.  The screen pass that went for a TD was due primarily to the OLB allowing himself to get trapped inside.  I'm pretty sure it was Misi.  You look at some of the massive gains in passing, most of the time it's Dansby in the general area scratching his ass and the TE/Slot receiver is catching the ball 5 yards away.  The Texans game was loaded with this.  The Oakland game would have been loaded with this if they had a marginal TE and a decent WR.

It was also a single play. Other then that one play that went for a long TD, they played pretty well defensively. Not great, but pretty well. I'm ONLY talking about the Oakland game, let's not bring Houston into this because the subject is "SOTG Raiders".

So, wait:

- Tannehill faces one of the best defenses in the league (as a rookie in his first start) and sucks.  This is no excuse, and he gets SOTG against HOU.

HOWEVER

- Defense holds OAK to 1 of 13 on 3rd down.  But OAK's offense is garbage, so this doesn't really count.

Huh?

Yes, when MIA plays NE, they will be unlikely to hold them to one 3rd-down conversion for the entire game.  But they did not play NE!

Grade the players on what they did, not what they would have done if it was a different opponent.  Tannehill wouldn't have had 3 interceptions against JAX; does that mean he shouldn't have been SOTG against HOU?
