Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: tubba marxxx on September 18, 2012, 06:41:12 pm NFL Films was Hard Knocks BEFORE there was Hard Knocks! Never heard any bitching about NFL Films being a distraction! Completely irrelevant to the thread. Show some respect. RIP Sabol. Classic Football Follies used to be my favorite growing up. Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: Fins4ever on September 18, 2012, 07:14:56 pm Way ahead of his time and glad he carried on his father's work. There are few voices that mesmerize us like Steve's did.
RIP Brother! Thank you for your contribution to the game I love. Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: mecadonzilla on September 18, 2012, 09:11:26 pm NFL Films and Sabol changed the way America, and specifically myself, viewed sports. It is single-handedly responsible for introducing me to the history of football and making me the fan I am today.
RIP Mr. Sabol. My sincerest condolences go out to your family. Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: MikeO on September 18, 2012, 09:40:12 pm Completely irrelevant to the thread. Show some respect. RIP Sabol. Classic Football Follies used to be my favorite growing up. I was actually showing how NFL Films was ahead of its time. Not sure how it shows lack of respect ::) Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: Dave Gray on September 19, 2012, 11:40:24 am ^ Yeah. Not disrespectful. He was praising Sabol.
Anyway, it's strange when people die who were just always part of the backdrop of your life. NFL films was awesome. Is awesome. Hall of fame for Sabol. Honestly, I had not thought of Steve since I saw the special he did on his father that told the story how it all got started. Thought you might like this. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/hiestand-tv/story/2012/09/18/an-appreciation-steve-sabol/57802440/1 Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: tubba marxxx on September 21, 2012, 07:41:32 pm I was actually showing how NFL Films was ahead of its time. Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: el diablo on September 21, 2012, 09:39:45 pm There's nothing I loved more as a kid, than Super Bowl Sunday. Back in the day, when MTV actually played videos. ESPN would run the Super Bowl marathon. From super bowl I to the one played the year before. Who hasn't gone into their backyard and pretended to run in "super slow motion" en route to the game winning TD? I love NFL Films. Always have, always will.
R.I.P., Steve. Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: Dave Gray on September 23, 2012, 11:21:16 am My favorite thing about NFL films was when they'd do the end of the year re-caps. No matter what team, how bad they were, the voice -- the slow-motion...made everyone look amazing.
It would be like "Cleveland Browns: Building for the Future" and I'd be ready to throw out all my Dolphins stuff and go be a Browns fan. Title: Re: Steve Sabol NFL films founder Dies Post by: MikeO on September 23, 2012, 11:57:27 am The Sabol family and NFL films have been the storytellers of the league. The NFL wouldn't be as big as it is without them doing what they have done. As the league gained more fans and exploded in this country, the NFL through NFL Films taught those new fans about the history of the league.
MLB doesn't have what the NFL has. If you watch an old baseball game or highlight thing you see guys running super fast, swinging super fast, and no announcer or anyone putting anything into context what is going on and why this is important and why it was important at that moment in time. The NFL has captured every big (and little) moment from the 70's on in a way no other major sports league has.
