Title: Fins vs. Jets Recap
Post by: Fins4ever on September 23, 2012, 05:13:46 pm
Well, that sucked!

Just finished watching the game and here is my initial observations.

1. Sherman's play calling is conservative and predictable. Only at desperate times did we see any creativity.

2. RT has longer to go than I had hoped. Made poor decisions and lacked accuracy. For being so athletic, did not see a single run.

3. Run D is awesome.

4. I hate the icing time out. For me, it is like a practice snap.

5. The secondary is one of the worst in the league.

6. Armstrong is a douche. Cut him now. Get rid of Naanee too.

7. Sadly, maybe Carp should be replaced.

8. The pass rush has digressed.

Not sure what game you watched. Tannehill with no help and with NO BUSH played well. The pick 6 was his only real mistake. He has no WR's that are any good. To say he has a long way to go is just unfair and 100% false. Miami was 10 or 19 on 3rd down today. Tannehill had a lot to do with that. That is a very good 3rd down % in this league.

And the defense played well. This constant attacking of the secondary is getting old. They did have 2 INT's today. Which team has a great secondary that constantly stops people? The Jets only were 6-17 on 3rd down. That is good defense and secondary play! You aren't going to get perfection. Are the outstanding and super great, no. But who is.

Poor coaching and missed field goals. Don't read anything else into this. That's why they lost

Don't forget about the fake punt that started everything for the Jets

We have no receivers, our best offensive weapon only plays one half and 2 missed field goals lose the game for us. Overall we didn't do too bad.

I hate always doing this but Fasano should have been coming back for that ball imo.  Third game for Tannehill and I think he doing better than I would have expected.  Definitely not playing too bad for a rookie.

Tanny forced the ball and was lucky he didn't have 3 picks. I like him, just reporting what I saw.. When he did find an open guy, his lack of accuracy kept any YAC. I also thought he should have tucked and run a couple of times. Looked very indecisive. I am not saying he sucks or anything, just that his learning curve is bigger than I expected (hoping for), esp. considering this is basically the3 same system he played in college.

On the flip, the O line played better than expected. I think Jerry grew up today.  ;)

Yeah, the secondary criticism is getting old for me too, esp. watching it happen. Only one big play, but they gave up 3rd and long time after time. What was NY.'s 3rd down %?

Regardless, tough loss...just part of maturing. As for Bush going out, hope it is not serious and anytime you depend on one guy, it will eventually bite ya. Thought Miller did a great job.

But he didn't. Let's live in REALITY and not the "coulda woulda shoulda".

Great point. Since when did Tebow play on punt plays and not get the ball. Fins were totally unprepared. Coaching or did the players fall asleep.

6 for 17. They were bad. Miami's defense was good on 3rd down overall

Also, with the coaching staff, if you are going to run the clock out at the end of the first half, do it with your backup running back.

Yep! Or just take 3 knees. The Jets with only 2 timeouts couldn't have forced us to punt

Every time this year but once.

Tebow is their upback on ALL punts

You're supposed to be watching for a fake on ALL punts

The play calling was a bit conservative, but look how many times we were stuck inside our own 10 yard line.

The only thing that pisses me off is that Tannehill threw that pick for a TD.  If you take that play away, the game never goes into overtime in the first play.  They talk about living with rookie mistakes, this was one of them.

We had way too many recievers drop passes cough cough Armstrong

Daniel Thomas is a fumble machine.  That really pisses me off.

Santonio Holmes made the secondary look like shit again, thank god Dustin Keller wasn't playing.

all things considered, I think the fins did fine today...   Yes there were lots of mistakes today,  the most costly being the 2 missed FG's.   give the fins 1 of those and the game is won.  We have to remember these are the same jets who scored 48pts on the bills.  they scored half that today.   we have had too many dropped passes this year.  also why did we not focus on more passes to the corners when they went down.   both revis and cromartie at one point.   Our pass defense cannot get to the qb's  where's wake, solia, starks, odrick???  better coaching and fixing mistakes and simply maturing, will fix these issues...     in the end I wanted to see sparano and rexy go down.....  next time ;D

The fact is if Carpenter makes the kick we aren't even talking about any of this.

Looked to me like we were blitzing a lot and the rush never got there. Early in game Fins got hands on Sanchez a couple times but couldn't make sack. Think that hurt them.

Lot of positive points, but the Pick-6 and the fake punt really hurt. And Armstrong dropping what would have been an important First Down, digging Fins out of hole, changing field position a little, also hurt.

Daniel Thomas has played in 2 games this year and lost a fumble in both.

CB Marshall also did not have good game, even before he got beat by Holmes for that big gainer in overtime, then couldn't even hold him properly. Otherwise it's only a 5 yard penalty and at least they're not in FG range

God, I HATE losing to the Mets (I mean Jets) but Fins outright GAVE this game away.

Also, Sparano and Wannstadt before him always drove down to the 30 where you just barely get into range for a 48 yard FG, then just handed the ball off to a RB right into the line. That approach has cost Fins maybe 5 or 6 games. You'd think eventually someone would wise up. Inside the 40 Kickers make like 80% of their FGs, while 45-50 is something like 50%.

Looked like they pulled Lamar Miller after he missed that hand-off, but going with a known fumbler with no speed a questionable strategy.

Also, (whoever said this was right) Fins didn't really seem to go after Revis' replacement after he went down.

Thought this game was going to be a gut-check for the players, an IQ test for the Coaches. Think the players showed a lot of guts. They just made some unfortunate mistakes. Not so sure Coaches necessarily passed IQ test.

Encouraged by Tannehill overall, and Fins ability to run the ball.

And about icing the kicker -- other guys on board have said that was bad luck, but Branch Rickey used to say "luck is the residue of design." Which means if you are smart you tend to get the lucky breaks. Fins (sorry to say) are just not smart. You look at (Cow) Patties. They are a smart team and good things happen. Miami is just not a smart team. And that kills me. They hardly ever make smart moves, do smart things. I'm a life-long Fins fan, and I watch them do so many dumb things.

Great observation Jimmythefinger. Is that your photo in AZ.'s avatar? Portrait, right? lol

Seriously, the fumbles need to be addressed. It could be as simple as how he holds the ball. Yesterday it looked like he was fighting for a couple more feet and it was stripped. Sometimes it is better to just go down.

I like Miller a lot!!!! If they re-sign Bush, they will keep Miller, Thomas could be odd man out.

And for the record, I didn't think they used Lane nearly enough!!! The guy moves the pile. COMEONMAN!

I disagree. Sherman still needs to be called out. That play calling was HORRIBLE.

Company came over at halftime & I missed the beg. of the 2nd half. Could someone recap whatever disasters occurred there?

Both Thomas and Miller are under contract for a while. No reason to get rid of either. Assuming they re-sign Bush this is a position of strength in 2013 and there would be no reason to move anyone.

^^Reread your last post. You're referring to Bush. Mike mentioned Thomas and Miller. Along those lines, Thomas's deal was 4 years, signed in 2011, and Miller's is four years signed this year. -EK

Just not the same for Carpenter, knowing he won't be greeted by a Sparano fist pump.  :'(
