Title: Marshall OUT Sunday
Post by: MikeO on October 12, 2012, 06:36:23 pm
No Richard Marshall for the 2nd week in a row

Is it a big loss?  Is he really night and day better than Carroll?  I guess he can at least add depth when healthy.

Maybe it's just a coincidence the pass defense had its best game of the year when Marshall wasn't playing.

It is a loss because as we saw last week if a guy gets hurt or dinged up (ie Carroll) then we are forced to play guys literally we just picked up off the street. RJ Stanford who I am sure is  a nice man, I really don't want to see lining up at CB in the 4th quarter of any game.  While Marshall isn't great i will take him over RJ Stanford and players on that level.

I said from day 1 that signing him was a mistake. He is not only not an upgrade, but came at a high cost. 15 mil. for 3 yrs. I usually support Ireland, but wonder what the hell he was smoking on this deal.

You can't possibly know he's going to get hurt when you sign him.

Besides, last week I thought Carroll stepped up and had a nice game.  With the Rams' best WR on the shelf, I think there's an opportunity here for him again to show why he's here.  Maybe it will help him develop to get more field time in-game.  Good for him.  Let's see if he answers the challenge.

Him getting hurt has nothing to do with my opinion signing him was a bad move. Have you seen him play? Maybe he just doesn't know the system, but he did not look good. I just think their had to be better options. 15 mil should get ya a friggin pro bowler.

Richard Marshall wasn't signed here to start. He was originally only the nickle back plus he can also play safety so he gave flexibility depth wise. Nobody expected Vontae to come in out of shape and keep regressing as a person and a player.

I can't kill Ireland for the Richard Marshall signing. It's not a crazy contract and the guy isn't that awful of a player. Let's keep it all in perspective.

OK, what is wrong with him, anyway? When is he expected to play?

Lower back injury. I am guessing he will be back after the Bye week and for the Jets game.

Grammar aside, $5 million a year is NOT going to get you a Pro Bowl DB, unless you find him in the draft (and he doesn't keep holding out like Revis).

And if you think there should have been better options, why not give some kind of clue as to who you're thinking of?

Marshall was considered a "hot" free agent and graded out as one of the better DBs in the league last year, 2nd in run stop percentage (link (https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/05/05/2011-run-stop-percentage-cornerbacks/)) and a "top 30 cover corner" (link (https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/07/13/fantasy-idp-the-bishop-index-2012-defensive-back/)).

That's not to say I've been happy with Marshall's play. Not at all. But to suddenly decry the signing at this stage seems disingenuous.

Hey, I didn't like the signing and that is my opinion. I hope he proves me wrong. I don't know what the other options were. Don't keep track of all the FA's. I was hoping the secondary was addressed in the draft, but I understand there were too many holes to fill.

I hope to see Marshall against the Jets and the extra time will enable him to acclimate to the D scheme.

Grammar aside? LOL I did it for affect. Am I going to get a ticket?

Below is the definition for disingenuous...lack of candor, giving a false appearance. How does that fit into me not caring for the Marshall pick?

Seriously, there is more important things to talk about. If you want to criticize everyone's grammar on a forum, you will be a busy boy.
