Title: Most Disappointing team at the halfway mark?
Post by: bsfins on October 30, 2012, 01:05:49 pm
We're at the 7-8 games played mark of the season...

Who do you think is the most disappointing team so far this year?

Chiefs? Chargers? Lions? Cowboys? Eagles?Bengals? Saints? (I'm not a fan of putting them in there, but I can see someone saying it)

Who do you think has the best chance of salvaging their season?

Saints.

I don't see why anyone would have thought the Saints would have a good year based on their offseason, but I keep hearing people say them. While it is not a disappointment to me, people really expected more out of the Bills & their defense this year.

Who has the best chance of salvaging their season- the Packers seem to have righted their ship.

Jets, I am disappointed that they are not 0-8.   ;D

At the start of the season, Fox and CBS had the Saints ranked #9.  ESPN had them ranked #11.  (link (http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/week-1-nfl-power-rankings-fox-cbs-espn-1810073/))  NFL.com had them ranked 6th (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000057974/article/nfl-power-rankings-saints-falcons-up-patriots-eagles-down).  Average rank: 8.75

NO is 2-5 with losses to WSH, CAR, and KC.  That's a major disappointment from what was expected to be a top-10 team.

I don't doubt people were high on them, I don't see why. I didn't expect much of anything from them this year.

Well, they did go 13-3 last year as their QB set a record for most passing yards in a season.  So there is that.

And they are also missing their head coach and their interim head coach and dealing with a ton of issues.

I'd have to say the Lions. I really thought they were going to be one of the elite teams in the league.

Chargers.  It's only a matter of time before Norv gets fired.

So many teams with high expectations have been a been disappointing.

I thought the Eagles would finally right the ship - wrong
I thought Dallas might finally put it together - wrong
I thought the Lions would finally be dominate - wrong

The biggest surprise to me has been the Carolina Panthers.  With the Saints down, I expected them to build on last year and challenge the Falcons for the NFC South.   Last year, many of their losses were close, and they finished the season strong.  I didn't see them regressing like this.

Right, which was why they were ranked around #10, instead of a top 5 team like they finished in 2011.

Lions, Saints, Eagles, Bills, Packers

Saints.

Not sure how you can say the Saints after all the suspensions they had from the offseason. No HC and loss of players and the OC. No surprise they have struggled. What did you expect? Brees cannot do it all.

It is either the Chiefs or Lions for me. Take your pick.

Brees cannot do it.

Why not? He did it last year. I didn't think they'd have a great season but I didn't think they would be this bad at the start of the season.

I'd like to give an honorable mention to the Chargers.  They suck every year and every year, they tease as if they can be good.  I don't think they're a good fit for this particular award, but they're perfect for the lifetime achievement award.

LOL

I noticed during their lone TD, a banner in the stands behind the goalpost that said, "Mr. Spanos, please fire AJ and Norv."  I would have liked to have seen whether it was allowed to stay up after that, but they didn't score on that end again.

Poor Chargers.  Unlike the Dolphins, they've had all the talent in the world and still can't win a damn thing.

The thing I find particularly frustrating about the Chargers is that you can never gauge how good they are.  When you think they suck, they will beat a decent team.  When you (like me) pick them to beat Cleveland a few ago, they lose in embarrassing fashion.

Sounds like the Chargers alright.  That team is in major need of an overhaul from top to bottom just to erase the stench of failure.  (I know because we can smell our own)

A very talented team that underachieves due to bad coaching.  Sound familiar?

Could have never said it better. In a word...inconsistent! You know, like the Dolphins. lol  Like a box of chocolates. lol

Buffalo.  I can't tell you but it seems like every sports magazine in the country had them as challengers to the patriots for the East title, and yet they're still the same shitass team they always were.

My recollection wasn't that anybody was predicting that Buffalo would win the AFCE, rather that folks were predicting that if anybody could it would be the Bills rather than the Fins or Jest.

^^^ ESPN the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and PFW all had the Bills going somewhere between 10-6 and 11-5 with one win over NE and a second place finish w/ wildcard birth.  I remember it vividly because I spent the afternoon choking on my chewing tobacco in the sink because I was laughing so hard.  So to me if you're looking for a team that had playoff aspirations (unreasonable though they may be) and totally hit the shitter, this would be it.  They were gonna be the surprise team of the year, and now they'll be lucky to finish 7-9.

(they also had the Jets and Dolphins somewhere between 7-9 and 5-11)

Let me echo those saying the Eagles.  God, what a turd.

They are similar to the Chargers in their level of talent/preseason praise vs weekly performance.
