Title: Clay and Carroll might be done for year
Post by: MikeO on December 17, 2012, 07:50:13 am
Not looking good for Charles Clay or Nolan Carroll to play again this year. Both have knee injuries. Not promising

Normally, Nolan Carroll getting hurt would be good for the secondary, but who is gonna replace him?

RJ Stanford

RJ Stanford

The man who let a surefire pick go through his hands for a touchdown catch.  Luckily that touchdown was nullified due to an illegal formation.

Through his hands?

Did you watch the game?

He jumped, outstretched, and was too short.  Hardly through his hands.  That wasn't a routine play for the best corner in the league.

Yeah Stanford played that ball well, he was just a little too short. Can't knock him for that play

I'm hoping that we get to see a bit of Egnew now. Been waiting on that guy the whole year. I still think he has plenty of potential and just needs a chance, I haven't been impressed with Clay.

Clay has been great the 2nd half of the year

18 for 212 and 2 TD's? He's been ok the 2nd half of the year and he was completely missing the first half of the year. He's had 1 great game over his 2 year career. I'm not saying give up on him, but it wouldn't hurt to look for something better.

Clay has all but proven himself useless.  He can't play FB (so we have to carry another FB) and he's sub-mediocre as a TE.

Fasano is clearly better than Clay.  What else needs to be said?

He's a backup tight end, I don't know what you are looking for????? Fasano is the one who needs to go

He wasn't drafted to be a backup TE.  He was drafted to be a starter, and he hasn't shown anything.

Clay isn't terrible.  I would like to see him get more playing time.  I think he has room to improve but the potential is there.

MikeO you haven't liked Fasano for a couple years, which is clouding your judgement.  I'm not saying Fasano is an all-star, or even very good, but the guy is leading the team in TD's with (5) (actually tied with Bush I think).  Fasano is very servicable.  If you want to get rid of someone Hartline is the one that needs to go.  The guy has ONE TD all season as the #1 receiver, and that was a flukie 80 yd TD against Arizona in the 4th qtr.  Hartline is a third down receiver at best, and Bess is much better in that role.

I've never understood the love for Fasano. I keep waiting for him to prove me wrong (seems like forever) but I think he is overpaid.

Fasano is mediocre.  It's just that everyone else Miami has brought in has been sub-mediocre (or just out-loud terrible, as Egnew appears to be).

I feel the same way about Hartline.  I agree with Spider though, Fasano is mediocre; not sure how much he is paid to have an opinion of whether he is overpaid.

I think Fasano is above average, but not in the mold of the big athletic tight ends like Graham or Gronk.  Realistically, these days, TE's should be like big WR's that can block well.

Never said I don't like him. He is a decent backup TE. Not starters material in this league. He can stay in Miami as a backup and I got no problem with that

Just read from Omar on Twitter that Carroll and Daniel Thomas are done for the year.

Clay officially on IR as well.

Egnew might actually be active this week. Now if he plays that's another thing

Apparently Carroll is not on IR, they are taking a cautious approach with him from what I read.

Probably because they are very thin at the corner position.

They are thinking Carroll will probably miss this week but be available for NEw England.

Egnew looks so lost.  I'd like to see him get some minutes.

This week is your best chance, if Hartline and Bess are both inactive, you might see him jump up off the bench.  But whether he gets time on the field is still unlikely.  Mastrud is the #3 TE now and we rarely see him on the field.

Different situation though. Mastrud is primarily a blocker, so even if he's on the field, you probably wouldn't notice. Egnew is a receiver, so he's only gonna get on the field to catch passes.

I noticed him out there last game, he was open on the deep corner on Fasano's td.

Omar Kelly (if you believe him and of late I don't  too much cause he has gone off the deep end on twitter fighting with fans like a 5 year old) is reporting that Egnew was a Philbin pick. Ireland didn't want him and didn't like him but he gave in to Joe on that draft pick and let Joe have his way

Ireland is the GM and is responsible for the personnel.  It's as ridiculous to blame Philbin for Egnew as it is for Philbin to claim that he didn't really want to go for it on 4th down, but Ireland wanted to so he did it anyway.

I agree. I'm just telling you the "spin" that clown Omar Kelly is putting on it all
