Title: Re: QB McCoy to the 49ers Post by: Sunstroke on April 01, 2013, 06:07:44 pm The 49ers had three options for their backup QB position this year... 1) A cheap QB that they trade for (McCoy) 2) Scott Tolzien (current back-up) 3) Spend a mid-round pick on a developmental QB Frankly, I would rather they went with option 3, and grabbed someone like Matt Scott, or the kid from Miami (Ohio) in round 4-5...but it's not like any of those options are likely to see the field this season. They gave an "end of the 7th round" pick (#227), which is a snatch hair away from undrafted free agent territory, and they traded down 9 slots from the end of rd 5 (#164) to the beginning of round 6 (#173) Eddie DeBartolo Jr used to leave more than that for a lunch tip... If all you want is a backup, you can get Ryan Fitzpatrick and not give up any picks. Not trading any picks and simply taking a quarterback in the late rounds probably costs less than anything else Or SF drafted the guy, figures hey let him develop for a couple years we're giving up a low round pick for him and then wait for Buffalo or the Jets to give us a first or second round pick for him when our next quarterback turns out to be suckish. That's why I'm curious as to the whole thing. |
