Title: NFL.com has re-do of 2009 draft round 1, Ireland looks like genius
Post by: Spider-Dan on May 07, 2013, 07:03:52 pm
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000156632/article/2009-nfl-draft-doover-mike-wallace-percy-harvin-hit-top-five

Let's skip to the part that we care about:

- MIN takes Vontae at #22 (originally: #25 to MIA)
- MIA takes Michael Johnson (http://www.nfl.com/player/michaeljohnson/2507784/profile) at #25 (originally: #70 to CIN)
- IND takes Sean Smith at #27 (originally: #61 to MIA)

I imagine that Ireland casually dropped this article on Ross' desk.

^^ and foresight is total blindness.

What's your point?

Classic case of Ireland haters unable to give the man any credit, even when it is obvious.

No credit needed to be given in this case. Draft re-do's are a waste of time. And that's my opinion in general.  I'm not bashing Ireland at all this time around

The point is to show who got value and who wasn't worth their slot.  In both cases noted above, Ireland got guys with good value at slots lower (some much lower) than what they ended up being worth.

Its noteworthy, and should be a credit towards the Dolphins' scouting organization for recognizing talent and value picks.

If Smith and Davis are both 1st round picks all these years later in a "draft re-do" it just shows how that was a weak draft class that year

But that also shows that Ireland made the best of a weak draft.

^^^ Hard to argue against that... Ireland takes way more crap than he probably deserves.
