Title: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: mecadonzilla on May 10, 2013, 12:02:41 pm http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pulp/2013/05/miami_dolphins_want_to_have_a.php
So...this is a thing, apparently. Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: Dave Gray on May 10, 2013, 12:27:08 pm They're not suggesting they play the Super Bowl there...just a regular game? Will it be a charity event or an actual game for the season?
Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: Brian Fein on May 10, 2013, 12:34:41 pm This is just utterly ridiculous now.
I'm sure the NFL will approve that. What's next, underwater football? No, wait, a game played while skydiving. Yeah, I like it! Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: MikeO on May 10, 2013, 12:39:57 pm It would be a flag football game with celebrities the weekend of the Superbowl. Not really a big deal if ya ask me
Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: Dave Gray on May 10, 2013, 01:39:09 pm Maybe I'm alone, but I actually think that's kind of a cool idea. It's stupid and gimmicky, but that's what the NFL is looking for during Super Bowl week. Highlight the Port of Miami -- it's at least a unique take that they can't offer in other places.
Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: masterfins on May 10, 2013, 03:02:30 pm Well they have been holding a college basketball game on a carrier for the last couple years. And the now annual outdoor NHL hockey game in a Football Stadium is popular. I'm sure they are just trying to have a publicity event that other possible hosts can't hold if they are inland.
They probably should have the Pro Bowl game on a carrier, that's nothing but touch football anyways. Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: Sunstroke on May 10, 2013, 03:40:25 pm They probably should have the Pro Bowl game on a carrier, that's nothing but touch football anyways. They should have the Pro Bowl in a canoe, floating in a large plastic kiddie pool... Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: MikeO on May 10, 2013, 04:49:00 pm It's a silly flag football game among D-list celebrities. I don't see this playing a role in helping Miami get a Super Bowl.
Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: MikeO on May 11, 2013, 05:45:27 pm I don't think tying in the aircraft carrier helps land a Super Bowl. It's a nice little thing, ties in the military and all which is nice. But, I will say this, I think the odds of the Fins getting one of the next two Super Bowls in the coming weeks when they do vote isn't as bad as some have reported. For one reason....sympathy.
Ross can play the sympathy card to his fellow owners and maybe win some votes. For one he and this franchise are on pace to lose around $41 mill this upcoming year , the owners know Miami is in rough shape. Those owners are a tight nit group who look out for each other. Miami getting a Super Bowl will help their bottom line in the near future and help the franchise overall financially. And the NFL wants every franchise to be strong financially because when one isn't that is bad for everyone. Second, it was reported the Fins have put together a package that will give each team the biggest possible cut of the Super Bowl money possible, so Ross is taking less than most owners would. Third, Roger Goodell was with Ross every step of this renovation plan that failed, he knows a Super Bowl in Miami would help the Fins greatly and Roger has pull with these owners and can sway votes. I think SB 50 is going to San Fran and Santa Clara. But I think Miami has a legit shot at 51 I really do. Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: mecadonzilla on May 11, 2013, 09:39:55 pm I don't think Miami will ever get another Superbowl without a new stadium. From what I understand, the league was unimpressed with the condition of the facilities in 2010.
Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: Brian Fein on May 12, 2013, 10:42:44 am The league was unimpressed with the fact that it rained, and rich people got wet. Its not like the stadium is surprisingly old.
I can't see a bunch of billionaires voting to give Miami the Super Bowl because they feel bad. They are billionaires cause the hoard money. You think any of them are into giving away multi-millions for charity? Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? I can't see a bunch of billionaires voting to give Miami the Super Bowl because they feel bad. They are billionaires cause the hoard money. You think any of them are into giving away multi-millions for charity? Uh, yeah alot of them do give away multi millions to charity! Ross just gave away half of his net worth (when he dies). Plus, as stated Miami is going to with their bid, give each team the biggest cut of money possible and keep the least amount possible. So the other owners aren't giving away anything ...if anything they are gaining! They are also smart businessmen these owners and you are only as strong as your weakest link and if you want to prevent a team from moving or being sold down the road (something other owners do hate) , the best way to stop that is to prop that team up and they have an opportunity to do that here by giving Miami a Super Bowl. Then he turns around and puts it in New York, uh, wha? Isn't it rather chilly at the end of January, start of Feb. during that time? So is New Orleans off the list because there was a power outage? :D Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? I seriously hope New York gets hit with a Nor'easter during Super Bowl weekend so the NFL will see the reason why having the game in a cold weather location that isn't a domed stadium is not good. Title: Re: A game on an aircraft carrier? Post by: Brian Fein on May 12, 2013, 11:47:04 pm I laughed my ass off when the Cowboys' new billion-dollar stadium had an ice storm the day of the Super Bowl. And then a few thousand fans were left in the parking lot holding their tickets because they didn't get in. We'll see how fast they run back to Dallas, too...
