Title: MLB Hot Stove 2013 - Trades, and trade rumors...
Post by: bsfins on June 28, 2013, 12:31:24 pm
Well,it's that time of year, I love it and hate....More hate in the recent years,as My Cubs have been sellers....

My Cubs  thoughts.....(since we seem to be on of the teams that have rag the dinner bell...)
I'm fine with them selling pretty much the whole team...Marmol's Gone..YIPPEE!

My problem is most trades,we seem to trade for AA (or lower) guy's,or guys that never seem to pan out.

Too many of these trades IMO - The Ian Stewart, for Mathieu, and Colvin (there was someone else in there too) just bit us in the ass again.Releasing Stewart after his twitter rant, even though he ws hitting .161 in AAA

The Sean Marshall trade,we got Travis Wood,(Sappelt has been a disappointing) These are the type trades we need,People that help the MLB team in this year or next...

People I really don't want to trade...
Rizzo,Travis Wood - who I can see the upside in,even thought the big contract scares me a bit. He's not going anywhere not rumored to...but I thought I'd be clear and saying I don't want to trade him either....

Nate Schierholtz- This one seems odd to most people,he's having a career year, and just signed this past offseason...Earlier it was David Dejesus, another guy I like, before he got hurt....I feel you have to keep 1 of these two.

Guy's I'm on the fence about....
Jeff Samardzija - I don't think he'll be traded this year, but read a CBS sportsline article, that mentioned his contract situation, limited starting experience, and wanting to play for a winner... :-\

See Schierholtz....

Guy's trade them...
Castro- I just don't see it,I was disappointed when we signed him to a contract extension.Yeah,I get it, He's young,he's young...But He's the exact opposite of what the organization keeps saying they want, and you can't change a tigers stripes.

Soriano,Garza,Feldman,Edwin Jackson,Gregg,Villanueva,Camp,Russell...For me the one that Hurts, but I'd be ok trading is Darwin Barney...I love to watch him play second base...

Sorry for my Cubs rant.....Most of the Cubs team has been rumored to be traded... :D

Post your trades, and trade rumors here....

Here's hoping some team takes A-Rod off the Yankees hands, or at least MLB suspends him for the rest of the season.

As someone who despises the Yankees, my most sincere hope is that the Yanks sign A-Rod and Cashman to lifetime contracts immediately. ;D

What team would possibly trade for A-Roid?

@keithlaw: Orioles acquire Scott Feldman and Tony Clevenger from the Cubs for Jake Arrietta, Pedro Strop, and int'l bonus slots.

Tony Clevenger is a typo it's Steve Clevenger...I liked catcher Steve Clevenger,Loved it last year when we played the Nationals, and He got thrown out of he game for arguing Balls and strikes while at bat....He Seemed to piss off the front office the past couple of days, and was suddenly gone.Yesterday he was told to pack his stuff and go to the hotel, and wait...He wasn't being called up....

Arietta- Woohoo a Missouri guy  :D

Scott Feldman seemed to get better as the year went on...We signed him as a rental guy,so hard to cry that he's gone...

I'm curious to know where Marmol goes,Rumored the Dodgers last night...

@CSNMooney: Cubs obtain RHP Matt Guerrier and give up No. 4 international signing bonus slot to complete Carlos Marmol trade with Dodgers.

Marmol to the Dodgers....and We gave up international money...

Then the Cubs traded
@GDubCub: Cubs also get two of Houston's international slots/pool$$ for minor league infielder Ronald Torreys.

We got him in the Sean Marshall deal along with Sappelt, and Wood....

This international money being traded is going to give me a headache.... ;D :D

What the Dodgers "need" is to trade Yasiel Puig to the Padres...as soon as humanly possible. ;D

Don't want Ethier, but in exchange for Puig, we'll give you Carlos Quentin. He's a decent hitter, especially outside of the batter's box. ;)

I think he would be better suited playing for the Chargers.  ;)

P.S. Looks like the Suns just landed Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler for Dudley and a 2nd round pick. Not a bad trade for the Suns Bledsoe is a talented player if he can stay healthy!!!!!

^^^ Looks like the Suns are stockpiling PGs. They already had Dragic, and drafted Archie Goodwin in the first round last week.  Hopefully this won't lift us too far up the standings...I still want a top-3 pick next draft, so we can get one of the top tier of that studly draft class.

(old news from last night) Cubs trade Scott Hairston to the Nationals for Class A RH Ivan Pineyro. Also reported they both are kicking in a PTBNL...

We really weren't using Hairston,I thought he was a good pick up for us when we signed him,but didn't really work out well...I like Ryan  Sweeney (Currently on DL) and Brian Bogusevic, much better than Hairston...We also have Dave Sappelt,Julio Borbon (Dejesus on DL,Soriano (hopefully we'll trade him),and Nate Schierholtz)) already So he was a spare part...

I admit I was hoping we were getting some international money,as the Cubs are over the "Spending Cap" with our International signings...

Title: Re: MLB Hot Stove 2013 - Trades, and trade rumors...
Post by: bsfins on July 09, 2013, 01:44:33 pm
Yes... :-\ We traded a now player for a future player.I guess we got a pretty good young pitcher for a part time player,I don't know enough about him to determine that or not...

My cheese and wine....err whine with it is...

Hey Soriano hit another Home run,and stole 2 bases last night..Let's trade him! please.... ;D

I thought Hairston might get traded, but we'd try to trade Schierholtz,Dejesus,or Soriano first. Leaving a relatively cheap 2 yr 5 mil Hairston, that could be platooned with someone else if we trade 1 or 2 of those guy's. Hairston gone, and a few injuries, and things in the minors...IMO means we're less likely to trade Soriano...The downside of this trade...

With Tim Hudson now out with a fractured ankle. And Beachy on his way back from rehab. It will be interesting to see if the Braves try to make a move. If any. They are enjoying an 8 game lead in the division.

Pirates look like they mean business with their acquisition of Justin Morneau. Its shaping up to be an exciting NL postseason. The Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers, & Pirates all have the ability to be hot during the postseason.

Yankees strike again? They punted the 2013 season by not spending money on REAL players, they may do the same in 2014 if this is their only signing, which it may be to stay under $189 Million.

As far as the signing goes, it's pretty much exactly what it should be. It's a good deal for both sides. McCann gets paid and the Yankees pay market value for a very good catcher. He is30 in February, but the deal isn't too long, like what Cano wants, so it's fine.

No complaints here, unlike last season when they gave a washed up Ichiro 2 years in hopes of drawing crowds(they didn't)instead of winning games.

Not really. His replacement is already there and Brian's more interested in starting fights than winning games any longer. He seems to have lost his mind in recent years

Title: Yankees Favorites for Beltran
Post by: EDGECRUSHER on November 30, 2013, 07:50:51 pm
Then what the hell was the point of 2013? They tanked the season by signing "name" players who suck just for attendance, just so they could get under $189 Million in 2014. A whole year was wasted for what reason? They just gave Jeter a raise for playing poorly in 19 games, gave McCann big money and will now sign Beltran which will put them over $189 Million.

Even if Cano walks and A-Rod is suspended the whole year, they will still be over.

I don't even know what to say. Has a franchise ever thrown in the towel on a season before for no reason? Even tanking is a reason if there is a point to it.

Title: Ellsbury to Yanks for 7 Years Almost Done
Post by: EDGECRUSHER on December 03, 2013, 09:07:09 pm
$153 Million.

When he is healthy, he is a very good player who makes up for his lack of power with defense and SB skills. Still, this is a TON of money for a guy who has 33 Career HR in 511 games not counting that ridiculous, probably steroid aided season in which he hit 31 HR.

I like adding Ellsbury, but not with this superstar contract.

Ellsbury contract is shocking.  I can't believe the Yankees did that.  Give the man his money, NOT THOSE YEARS.

His game is based on speed.  Amazing defense, BASED ON SPEED.  Base running - speed.  Doubles and triples?  Say it with me - speed.

A lot of people don't know this, because he doesn't look it, but Ellsbury turns 31 during the season next year.  He will be 38 when the contract ends.  38! Time flies when you're having fun and Ells has been in Boston's system for the last seven years.

What happens to a man's legs as he ages?

Ellsbury has a lower range arm.  Even with his speed, he hits under .300 - which has driven fans in Boston nuts.  It's crazy he hasn't been able to get past .300.  Almost no power, minus that one eye brow raising year.

The other issue is the guy can't stay on the field.  Over the last five years or so he has averaged 96 games a year.  Lots of questions about his toughness, before this big payday.

But, let me say this:  When this kid is right, the Yankees struck gold.  For the years he is good, he is really, really good.  He sets the table at the top of the order.  Speed kills.  Ellsbury and Gardner, 1-2.  Ouch.  They will be a nightmare on the bases.  At Yankee Stadium?  I am willing to wager he will pop 18-20 home runs.  He has a good swing for that shallow porch.  He'll hit a crap load of doubles.  Defensively?  You won't have to worry about anything hit anywhere in his general direction.  One of the best.

New York will get three or four REALLY good years out of him.  The back end of this deal will bite them, but they never worry about that.  One thing no one is talking about?  This is actually an eight year deal, it has a PLAYER option at the end (21.8 million).  You don't think Ellsbury, at 39 years old, won't exercise that?  Of course he will.

But those initial years?  Those will be good years.

Speed is the last skill to go, even Ichiro is still faster than most, so I am not worried too much about that. Both injuries were fluky, but they happened nonetheless. Some players come back in 10 days after those, he took a lot longer.

This was market value for him unfortunately, salaries are almost at a bubble right now. All it takes is one stupid GM(Ned Coletti) or one stupid Steinbrenner(take your pick) to ruin everything for everyone else.

Speed is the last skill to go, even Ichiro is still faster than most

Edge...what sports are you watching?  The first step, and speed, is usually one of the first skills to decline.  Ichiro is a shell of what he used to be.  He was just so freakishly faster than everyone else, he still is.

Well, not really.  But he has inked with Seattle.  10 / $240 million.

http://mlb.si.com/2013/12/06/mariners-reel-in-robinson-cano-with-reported-10-year-240-million-contract/?eref=sihp

The Mets are supposed to be close on Grandy for 4 / 60 million.

Post by: EDGECRUSHER on December 06, 2013, 06:05:55 pm
Bat speed goes first, but leg speed takes time to decline.

As far as the Cano deal goes, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA. You gave Cano a contract until he was 41 years old on a last placed team with no motivation for him to ever try again? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I am glad the Yankees let him walk. This definitely makes them worse in the short run, but hopefully this means they are learning their lesson about signing infielders into their late 30's and early 40's.

Title: Yankees Sign Beltran 3 years/$45 Million
Post by: EDGECRUSHER on December 07, 2013, 09:21:12 am
What do you do when you have no farm system? SIGN EVERY OLD FREE AGENT!

At least it's on 3 years, but his defense makes him a DH at this point. To be honest, I am more excited about the Kelly Johnson signing. That was a very good, stealth move.

This offseason will define the team for 5 years, I hope they limit the years on these contracts.

Title: Re: MLB Hot Stove 2013 - Trades, and trade rumors...

Cano to the Mariners for 10 years and$240 Million. I understand they need to make a splash and drastically overpay for anyone to sign with them, but when the Yankees are showing financial restraint, maybe take a closer look as to why.

Cano has all the talent in the world and the Yankees are worse off for not having him, but he has always been a moody prick and his press conference further illustrated that. Let's see how he handles last placed finishes without a financial motivation. We all know he won't make it to 41, but I would be surprised if he is still elite at 36.

The M's also signed Corey Hart which was a fantastic move, one I wished the Yankees would've done instead of Beltran. Their numbers are very similar, but Hart came much cheaper due to injury.
