Preseason has started,and we got to see the hall of fame game.Most of us not in South Florida,are regulated to beat reporters story about their takes,and tweets about player in practice.

Whom are you rooting for to make the final roster?

 Mike Gillislee. Local boy and Gator. I hope he does well enough to hang on and mature!

Brian ... do you have any doubt the #3 overall pick will make the team? I think you are pretty safe barring some crazy off the field stuff.

I'm pulling for our trio of rookie Gators, Jelani Jenkins, Mike Gillislee and Caleb Sturgis. I really like Gillislee, and think he has the potential to be better than either Lamar Miller or Thomas. Not sure he'll make more of an impact this season than those two, but I think he can be groomed into a quality starting RB.

Chad "The Hound" Bumphis

Jeff Fuller. Liked him last year and still like him. Was on the practice squad most of last year, would like to see him make the 53 man roster this year.

I liked what I saw from Gray

I'm more worried about Gillislee.  I think he's raw and needs time, but has high ceiling.  However, I don't think he will clear waivers to go to the practice squad, and I don't know if the team will carry all these RB's.  Someone has to be the odd man out.

Unless they start contributing to special teams.  I wonder if they give him a shot at returning kicks...

Touche.  Especially because Jeff Ireland has a history of cutting ties with early draft picks that don't work out.  See Pat White and Patrick Turner for examples.

^^I'm ok with that.  I'm not OK with wasting high picks on bums, but I'd rather cut losses than keep guys around that aren't working out.  I think Daniel Thomas currently still has some value, though.  He really needs to step it up.

I forgot Michael Egnew. I really want to see him make the team. I think he could be an outstanding receiver if he can just get the rest of what it requires to be a TE down.

Ochocinco.  Reports are he is trying to make a comeback.

I like Bumphis as well and hopes he makes the team or practice squad. Little surprised he wasn't drafted. Bumphis had a very productive senior season in college. I think he led all college WR's in TD receptions with 12 last year.  He reminds me a lot of Davone Bess in many ways. Same height and weight as Bess and a guy who just caught a lot of passes in college and produced in the SEC without having help from great QB play. And I think there is something to be said for just catching a lot of passes in college that helps translate to the NFL level.

The only difference is, he's a lot shiftier than Bess.  He can get you some yards after the catch. 

Bumphis can't return punts on this level that's for damn sure but he does make some difficult catches and isn't afraid to take a hit or go over the middle.

If they carry 5 WR's he has a legit shot to stick depending on how valuable he is running down punts and kickoffs. But at worse he is a practice squad guy this year. Think out of the McNutt, Tymes, Davis, Fuller, Stafford, Pruitt mix he has the most upside out of all of those guys.

^^ Of all the guys you just named, the only ones I think are even on the bubble are Bumphis and Davis.  I don't see any value in any of the others.

And where does Thigpen fit in?  He wears a RB number and was listed as a RB last year, but I read a lot in the offseason about moving him to WR...

Thigpen is a RB who can also play some slot WR in certain formations. He has a roster spot locked up

Jonas Gray.  If it were me I'd keep Gray, Gillislee, Thigpen and Miller and cut Daniel Thomas.

Thomas isn't getting cut. In fact if you believe Philbin Thomas is pushing Miller to start he is playing so well in practice and preseason games. Thomas is their best pass blocking RB too. No way he is going anywhere

Gray I think is the odd man out if they don't carry 4 RB's. No burst, plodding RB.

I also heard that about Thomas which i don't know says more about Miller or Thomas.

I feel like Thomas and Gray are the same guy, and Gray has more up-side.  Thomas is probably better than Gray today, but I think Gray could easily replace Thomas in the future.

It's strange for me to say, I like that Thomas runs where the play is designed to go,hole left,he runs left.Yet most of the time I feel he plays light for a guy that's 6'1" 235#'s.I can't figure Thomas out...IMO he'll make 3 runs that do nothing,then one run, I'll go ok, he might not be total shit.

Just my take...I wouldn't mind seeing him beat out for a job,but I'm not holding out much hope...

Gray is really slow. I mean its obvious. Vs backups late in a preseason game its no big deal but he can't survive  vs starters in real minutes of real games. Thomas has a little burst to him and is faster
