Title: Thursdays off? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on September 11, 2013, 01:31:20 pm http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/10/dolphins-will-practice-on-tuesdays-take-thursdays-off/
Personally I think Tuesday makes the most sense. However, I can see a rational and logical argument for Monday instead. Thursday makes absolutely no sense to me. Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: MikeO on September 11, 2013, 01:34:25 pm The players like it and gave positive feedback to it. So they are gonna keep going with it
Not like they can't change back if it doesn't work out. I don't see it as a huge deal. Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: Landshark on September 11, 2013, 01:53:41 pm Usually Monday is conditioning day as you're all bruise up from Sunday. Tuesday is the off day, then Wednesday/Thursday/Friday are the main practices of the week. Saturday is walkthrough and travel day and Sunday is game day.
This makes no sense to me either. Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: Phishfan on September 11, 2013, 02:29:38 pm I don't see any issue with it. If Thursday is now the day players who spend the off day ion the film room will be able to watch game film of their upcoming opponent while already knowing the game plan. I think it makes sense.
Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: MikeO on September 11, 2013, 02:42:45 pm This makes no sense to me either. If the players (who actually are putting their bodies through hell) like this schedule....who is anyone else to say anything?! Title: Re: Thursdays off? Since when do the players get a say in the dictatorship known as Philbinland?? Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: MikeO on September 12, 2013, 12:45:35 pm Since when do the players get a say in the dictatorship known as Philbinland?? obviously now! Title: Re: Thursdays off? Since when do the players get a say in the dictatorship known as Philbinland?? In the articles I read, the reporters had not actually spoken to any players about it, it simply stated that Philbin said that the players generally had positive feedback about it. So I am not sure the players even get an opinion, let alone a say. Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: Phishfan on September 12, 2013, 03:07:20 pm With that line of thinking, I did not see Philbin say it either. Maybe the writer just did it. ;)
Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: CF DolFan on September 12, 2013, 04:23:05 pm I saw some quotes from players and Philbin about it. here are some quick notes about it.
Philbin said he “stumbled” onto the idea last season. The Dolphins had a Thursday game in Buffalo and then played host to Seattle the following Sunday. With nine days between the games and Thanksgiving occurring during that stretch, Philbin wanted to give the team the holiday off. “Players said they felt good and they felt energized,” Philbin said. “I talked to some people in the offseason in regard to performance, the timing of things. It’s all about preparing your team and giving them the best chance to perform to their potential on Sunday. In my opinion, this is the best way to do it.”Dolphins tight end Charles Clay said there’s no doubt that players were still sore Tuesday following Sunday’s win at Cleveland. But he said the soreness went away 30 minutes into practice. “I like it,” Clay said. “I see the whole point behind it — getting rest later in the week so you go into the game a lot fresher.” ................. Dolphins left guard Richie Incognito said resting on Thursdays should give the players “more pop later in the week.” “Definitely later in the season, coming in on Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s going to be a grind,” Incognito said. “The light at the end of the tunnel is having Thursday off and getting that rest for Sunday.” Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: Sunstroke on September 12, 2013, 07:20:41 pm If the team feels that it gives them the best chance to be at their physical best come game time, then more power to them. When it comes to all aspects of training, practice and preparation, the primary goal always has to be "what will give us the best chance of winning our next game." If giving your team that best chance of winning means taking Thursdays off, then cool. If it means that Saturday morning practices include unicycle training and violin lessons, followed by alternating 30 minute sets of vigorous thumbwrestling and beer pong...bitchin'. Whatever stacks the W's is A-fucking-OK in my world. Just win the damned game. Title: Re: Thursdays off? Thursday off is a head scratched. Title: Re: Thursdays off? Post by: fyo on September 13, 2013, 11:16:02 am I'm somewhat concerned with this from a muscle-restitution point of view. Muscle fibers are actually damaged when subjected to intense exercise and resting days are needed for them to repair and grow. I'd be worried that the players would begin to suffer late in the season without those consecutive days off.

I don't no your age but I am guessing you don't know about Shulaland.I almost said something in preseason even our third string players were not getting flagged. That is coaching.Shula didn't play either. We have the right coach and I like to think QB. We are going to knock the patsies off their roost if not this year then it will be next year. |
