I live in New York, I have missed numerous Super Bowl championships and even Championship Game appearances rooting for this terrible team. It's been over 20 years since I started cheering for Miami and they have repaid me with 2 division titles and countless losing seasons.

I don't think I can choose another NFL team, but I think I am going to follow Miami like I followed the Knicks in the 2000's. Show some self respect and I will watch again, otherwise I will just root for you to lose every game until actual change is made. This is just embarrassing now. 2 weeks to prepare for the Bills at home and we lose to this terrible team that in reality, is no worse than us.

This may have been the hardest loss I have ever seen from this team and that speaks volumes. I can't be alone in this.

It's just a game.  I will root for them every week no matter how bad they are.  And if they lose, it's not the end of the world

My life isn't over, but my interest in this team probably is. It's an abusive relationship at this point.

Before the season started just about everybody on this site thought Miami was a 10 win team at best, most thinking they were an 8 or 9 win team.  Nothing has really changed from that.  Miami is a bit worse that some teams, and a bit better than other teams, that makes just about every game a game they can win or lose on any given Sunday.  They should have won today's game, but it wasn't a gimme; Buffalo has improved this year also.

exactly nothing has changed. You can't pick them to win 8 or 9 games in August then be shocked with a 3-3 start. Did anyone in their right mind think this was a Super Bowl team?

This is no where near a 10 win team. How can you still think that? This buffalo team is so beat up and we still lose. We will be lucky to be in 3rd place in the AFC East at the end of the year. Hell, the jets look like the better team.

Just an FYI, we're a game down from the Pats, who lost to a team today they shouldn't have lost to as well, and we get to play them twice.  Disappointing loss, yes. Want to give up on the team?  Don't let the door kick your ass on the way out.

Yeah, they have shown nothing to make anyone think they are winning 7 of their last 10. The Browns had their crappy QB Wheeden in. The Colts are still a good team, but not the world beaters we all thought they were and the Falcons are an abomination. We were duped into thinking this team was a contender based on those 3 victories.

We got killed by the Saints, completely blew it against the Ravens and today's humiliation. Contenders don't lose the last 2 games. Hell, GOOD teams don't lose the last 2 games.

Tissues - aisle 3! The Dolphins have one claim to fame, an 'undefeated team' from the pre-historic era. Maybe two if you count Dan Marino's passing records that were a result of playing from behind his entire career. They suck, and always have sucked. I'd be embarrased to be a fan of a team that can't even fill half their stadium.

Everything they did right in those 3 wins they have done wrong in the 3 losses. Penalties, mistakes, boneheaded calls by the coaches, being aggressive when they should be cautious and vice versa. I just don't get it. They looked terrific in those 3 wins and have looked lost in the 3 losses. Were they just flat out lucky the first 3 weeks when they were doing everything right? They could easily win the next 5 straight or lose them all. They do so much talking about consistency in players, it's about time we see some consistency in the coaching staff. Even after making a royal mess of the first quarter of the game, Tannehill literally throws them back into the lead and then once they had the lead and actually running the ball with a little bit of success they decide to keep pressing their luck and having Tannehill drop back time after time. Even when you know this teams propensity to give up sacks and fumbles. Even when about the only thing that will GUARANTEE a loss is a turnover? Philbin should fine himself for that call. It wasn't a bad call, it was an unbelievably horrible call given the situation. You DON'T NEED A FIRST DOWN!!!!! Your best player on your team in this position is your punter. Let him do his thing and pin them deep with zero timeouts. If they drive the length of the field and kick a field goal, well go shake the rookie QB's hand and tell him he played terrific, but don't do something so collosally stupid it should be replayed over and over and over before every single game that Philbin coaches for the rest of his life. I remember a few years ago when the Bills did pretty much the same thing and tried to throw a pass late in a game when all they had to do was run the football and punt and I think the QB was strip sacked for a TD and they lost the game. Philbin should be forced to watch that game for the rest of his life before every game too. Doubt it would matter. You can't fix stupid.

Everyone was giving me shit when I said last week they'd miss the playoffs and finish 7-9. Where are they now? Where's the "playoff hunt" thread at? Reality check. I knew they were bad, but even I thought they could win at home against a terrible Bills team. It's another "next season" season. -EK

I'll never stop following them but I've given up on a playoff chance. If you can't beat a depleted team and look worse than the Jets then it's over. They're not a team with this coaching that can turn it around. At least I know my Sundays are pretty free now. It's good to get it out of the way so early.

3-3 and one game out of the division lead doesn't take them out of the playoff hunt and no where close to 7-9. Keep trolling panther fan.

It's 3 games closer to 7-9 than they were when everyone was over the moon about their start. They're no longer even one of the top two teams in their own division. 6 teams make the playoffs. 7 teams have a better record than Miami, and if their showing against Buffalo is an indicator of how they will perform from here on out- against a third string QB and with 2 weeks to prepare- they may not even make 7 wins. I may have to revise my prediction. -EK

Can't argue with this in any way. You just can't stress enough the part about us having 2 weeks to prepare against a 3rd string QB at home. 7 wins is a stretch with this O-Line.

A fan never leaves his team...period. Getting all boo-hoo over a bad game and whining about not being able to take it any more...yeah, that's a weak fan.

Division games man. I point to the Pats who lost to a jets team with a rookie QB today.  Stick with the Panthers because you have no idea what your talking about. 

Hang in there Edge.  I know how tough it can be, and I have a lot of respect for Dolphin fans that didn't grow up in S. Florida, but have stuck with the team through all these lean years.

I have to believe that one day, we will be rewarded for staying loyal.  I think of all those years that the Saints were so so terrible, and how sweet it must have been for the "real fans" when they finally won the Super Bowl. 

This was a bad loss.  It makes you question everything we are doing, but I still have faith that Philbin can fix these problems and we can get better.  Don't give up.

Saints are a better team than most other NFL teams.

The Ravens are defending champions, and we lost by missing (badly) a last second FG. 

Now, Buffalo, IMO, we handed them that game.  I think the Dolphins are a better team, although adjustments need to be made.  I do, however, think that playoffs might be a stretch if this O-line doesn't get some improvement.

Anybody who has been a fan through this big of a drought is not a "weak fan".  Watching your team find ways to lose week after week for 10 years (or more) isn't easy.  At some point you truly question why you watch.  If we had been good in the relatively recent past I would criticize.

^^^ I suppose I could substitute "whiny" for "weak" in that statement to appease the charter members of the bleeding hearts club...but I still think that talking about no longer following your team because they keep losing is pretty darned weak.

This is what makes me hate "fans"....I love when we win, The Dolphins should beat everyone,and suddenly we attack the trolls,and naysayers......When we lose,Fire everyone,Everyone Sucks, we'll never win anything...and the trolls come out,pointing all the "I told you so"..

I've been to 1 Dolphin game my whole life 2009 in St. Louis,never lived in Florida. I wouldn't have gone if it weren't for Stl finfan. Never been to Cubs game,hell they haven't made it to the World series since my mother was 2,my Grandfather lived his whole life and never saw them win a World Series....I was kid the last time the Dolphins went to the to the Superbowl....

I admit the new logo change hurt my fan hood,but I still love the team on the field.It's my team....Win, or lose.

As frustrating as yesterdays loss was and the last decade plus has been......even with the worst fucking logo that I will never wear. They are still my team.....ride the highs and lows either way!!!!!

To throw in my $.02 here. You completely lost me with your rant about rooting to see Miami lose. I can understand frustration and have felt it myself but please take that type of attitude somewhere else if you expect any sympathy.

Why did you choose the Dolphins, if you lived in NY? 

One was because of Marino, and the second was that the Giants went with Hostetler over Phil Simms. I was like 10 and my loyalties ran deep, even though it was the right move due to Phil's age.

For the record, I am not picking a new team. I have actually grown to loathe the Giants almost as much as the Jets and Patriots. I just can't see the silver lining anymore, not even through the draft or free agency. Just gonna step away from football for awhile and replace it with soccer. I don't care if it makes sense, I refuse to call soccer "football".

The entire NFL is pretty bad. Watered down with the rules and the addition of the stupid Thursday nite games that make no sense, other than to line its pockets with nfl network money. Every week i look at the schedule it gets worse and worse..1-5 vs 2-4, 3-3 vs. 2-4. One relevant game on the schedule per week. Its simply make the playoffs and see who the luckiest team is nowadays. I can barely stomach watchjng a halfaa game per week the play is so awful. You get some jackass like Victor Cruz on an 0-6 team dancing around cause he caught a 5 yard slant.

Miami fits right in with everyone else. Wouldnt be so disappointed...

So basically you picked a team 1000 miles away rather than the home team because you wanted to root for a team that was currently winning and are going to bail on them when they aren't.

Sounds like a lot of out of town Cowboys, Steelers, and Yankee fans.

I've felt the same way you have, Edge.  Shit, I'm a Red Sox fan.  You don't think it was hard growing up as a Sox fan?  ;)  I covered the game in '03 when Boone's ball sailed into the night.  Talk about heartbreaking.  I think I've actually posted a couple "I don't know if I can do this anymore" threads about Miami myself.

Hang in there.  I'm a Sox fan, a Bruins fan...those two teams showed me something.  If THEY can turn their shit around, anyone can.  I mean, Christ.  Look at New England.  When we were kids, the only two teams in the league worse were Tampa and New Orleans.  People forget that.  Look at the Pats now.

I don't think there's any shame in taking a break when you've just had enough.  After all, this is entertainment -- If it gets to the point that this hobby is causing more stress and discomfort than enjoyment, reduce your level of involvement.  I'm not "done" like you're done, but I've essentially stopped going to the game and made my focus on food, rather than football.  It's the only way I can still enjoy myself through this decade of misery.

This is why I gave up my season tickets...

I watch the games, but the only live games I attend are Bruins games (and those are far and few between).  Live sports don't do it for me any longer, I'm much happier on my couch.  I can quickly stretch and go for a run after, or whatever, as soon as it's over. 

What I don't do any longer?  I don't buy any more stuff.  Period.  Hats, shirts, sweatshirts...anything.  I watch the games.  Read some articles.  But I no longer hinge on every word and have to have ever cool fleece that comes out.  Screw that.

^^ Agreed.  I was getting ridiculed by the wife over the weekend for not having any Dolphins shirts.  I have a few "Special Teams" shirts, Web Weekend shirts, a AFC East Champions shirt, and a couple TDMMC T-shirts, but none that just say "Dolphins" with a logo.  She found that odd.  I didn't think much of it.

And now, given the current logo situation, I don't see that changing any time soon.

I was offered 4 Dolphin tickets to the Bills game on the 40 yard home side, lower bowl, for $85 a piece and didn't take it. It's too easy to sit in A/C and eat wings instead of spending a whole day of it.  

I should have though as this was the first game we lost that pissed me off in years. It's always better to be around thousands of other similarly miserable people.

^ I kinda see it the other way.

I was at the game.  It was brutally hot.  And the traffic situation is a mess and 95 was closed in one direction.  It was just a nightmare that took all day.  Had we won, I could've chalked it up to suffering for my team.  But it takes so much out of me to go to a game, spend all day baking in the ungodly sun, just to lay a turd and have work the next day.

In jest, I told my wife never to let me go again.

Edit: When I watch it at home and we stink up the joint, I just turn it off when it's over and go on with my life.  I don't have a 2-3 hour trek of misery to get home and cleaned up, exhausted.

I did hear it was a brutally hot day and people sitting on the visitor's side had thermometers reading 105 in that sunlight.

From what I saw on TV it was mostly empty seats in that place!!!!!

I left my seats with 2 minutes left in the half because I was getting dizzy.  No joke.  Luckily, I was in club level and got to sit in the A/C and watch the last 2 mins on TV.  But seriously.  It's unbearable.

Seriously, when they tried to move to the late game to reduce the impact of the heat, Dolphins fans everywhere complained.  Damned if you do...

^^^And most of them probably have never been on the sunny side of the stadium during one of those intense days.

I totally get how the team is screwed either way.  The heat is so incredibly intense that I can barely sit there, much less to play in it.  I think they have to get some kind of partial canvas covering to make it bearable.

They are in a really tough spot.  It's more than just uncomfortable.  It was dangerously hot.

I was sitting on the 20 yard line on the visitors side. They were carrying fans out of the stadium left and right but the Dolphins were kicking butt!!! Jason Taylor said he got an IV at half time and 2 after the game. It was definitely an advantage that we used to start off strong every year and no one complained because it was "our" advantage.

The Giants won the Super Bowl when I went to the Dolphins. Also, I was 9.

I would not say I complained but I did raise the question if dealing with the intense heat and the amounts of dehydration associated with it may have led to some of the late season breakdowns. I know that up to a point using the heat just as using the cold is a home field advantage. But that is a game by game scenario. Other teams had to face it once. Miami was in it every day of practice and every home game. Their bodies go through the punishment infinitely more than the opponents. And there has been a history of late season poor play (more recently it has been throughout the season though). I cannot prove there is cause but there is definitely correlation.

Two possibles to explain the "late season breakdowns"

1) Yours -- playing in the heat in Sept. resulting in lingering dehydration that resulted in losses in Dec. 

2) The heat was such a huge home field adv. that the Dolphins beat teams at home in Sept that they would have lost to on a neutral field or in cooler weather.  And the Dolphins are so poorly accumulated to cold weather that they lost to teams they could have beaten if the weather wasn't so cold.   ....  Thus it appeared the team was breaking down, when in reality they had an adv. in the hot and a disadv in the cold and the seasons were changing. 

I think, like the Denver game, we won games in the heat we shouldn't have. Going into the end of the season we were more on par to what we were. I don't remember specifically playing worse than the players we had.
