Title: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: masterfins on November 08, 2013, 01:57:37 pm Everyone of the 82,000 plus attendees of this year's Super Bowl will receive a gift bag containing: seat cushion, muffler, ski gaiters, three pairs of hand and foot warmers, lip balm, and a package of tissues.
With no disrespect intended for the southerners on this board, If you can't take the cold stay home! Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Fau Teixeira on November 08, 2013, 02:03:49 pm i hope there's 2 feet of snow during the Superbowl this year .. that would be beyond awesome !
Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Sunstroke on November 08, 2013, 03:18:29 pm ^^^ ...and freezing rain. Nothing delivers the "what the fuck were we thinking?" message quite like freezing rain. Colder and more chaotic than snow, without any of the fuzzy Norman Rockwell sentimentality. Nobody builds freezing rainmen in their front yard, and kids don't squeal with delight while having an impromptu freezing rainball fight. Yeah, freezing rain. That's my wish for this year's Super Bowl. Enjoy it, idiots... Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Phishfan on November 08, 2013, 03:39:11 pm I'm on a different front. I hope for bad weather as well but because I want to see the game played in it. You guys seem to wish ill will on the organizers and viewers but I grew up where football was played in this kind of weather.

You guys seem to wish ill will on the organizers and viewers but I grew up where football was played in this kind of weather. Well it's the funny factor. Most of the fans at the game are there to be seen rather than are actual fans of football. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: el diablo on November 08, 2013, 09:09:08 pm Yes! Bring on the freezing rain & fog. Talk about night time TV magic.
Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Landshark on November 08, 2013, 09:14:55 pm I seriously hope that the weather for this game is so bad that it makes the NFL think twice before holding the Super Bowl at a non dome cold weather location again
Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MikeO on November 08, 2013, 09:37:29 pm For the money those people pay for tickets they ought to get more than that....lol.
Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Spider-Dan on November 08, 2013, 10:46:34 pm I hope it's not snow. If it's snow, people will get all nostalgic and talk about how it was such a winter classic.
I hope it's just a torrential downpour for the week prior and the game is played in about an inch of standing water, no one can see any yard markers, every pass falls incomplete and it's repeated runs into the line for 4 hours. Like the end of the NE-CIN game. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: mecadonzilla on November 08, 2013, 10:47:16 pm Yes! Bring on the freezing rain & fog. Talk about night time TV magic. I'm hoping for the worst possible weather. I want some hardcore precipitation of any type. It could be beautiful. Inclement weather or not, I doubt there will ever be another cold weather outdoor Superbowl again for a long, long while. It's a bad idea to count on February weather being nice in that part of the country from what I've heard. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Phishfan on November 09, 2013, 04:02:20 am I seriously hope that the weather for this game is so bad that it makes the NFL think twice before holding the Super Bowl at a non dome cold weather location again I'm curious your motivation. You just seem pissed the NFL put it in a cold weather spot. Please expand on this. You don't seem to have ill will towards the rich bastards at the game. Your only point is where the NFL decided to have the game. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MikeO on November 09, 2013, 07:48:10 am You will see another cold weather super bowl I don't care what the weather is this year for that game. Robert Kraft is a power owner in this league who wants one. Snyder could use the whole ...."want me to change the team name, fine give me a super bowl"....to get one. The Bears are dying to have one in Chicago. The owners in the northern/cold city's are united on this issue.
It's gonna happen. Matter of WHEN and not IF at this point Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 09, 2013, 10:25:48 am Back to the gift basket issue. This has nothing to do with Pussification, and is just smart marketing.
Many times there are "giveaways" at games. I have read about them occuring at past superbowls, and seem to get some sort of junk every time I go to a minor league baseball game. It would be stupid to have give away handwarmers and a Dolphin muffer at the home opener in Sunlife. Equally it would be pretty stupid to give out Patriots folding hand fan for a Foxboro December game. These giveaways reflect the reality that fans will have a more use for a handwarmer than sunscreen. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Landshark on November 09, 2013, 05:07:40 pm I'm curious your motivation. You just seem pissed the NFL put it in a cold weather spot. Please expand on this. You don't seem to have ill will towards the rich bastards at the game. Your only point is where the NFL decided to have the game. Because the NFL had long decided that they would not have the Super Bowl at a cold weather location unless it was in a domed stadium. And even then, they rarely do because there is usually nothing to do during that time of the year in places like Minnesota or Detroit. People want to be able to golf or go to the beach during Super Bowl week, not freeze to death. Now they want to subject players to outdoor elements in the dead of winter. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MikeO on November 09, 2013, 05:14:48 pm Now they want to subject players to outdoor elements in the dead of winter. Not gonna find much sympathy for millionaire players for having to play 1 game in cold weather. That isn't a shot at you Landshark just saying nobody is gonna feel sorry for them. I actually agree with you that I would like to see this game played in DOMES or Warm Weather locations. I want to see a champion decided on the field, not because of who handles the cold and wind better. But nobody is gonna feel sorry for players for having to play in a cold game. If anything I feel sorry for the fans who pay big money for having to sit out in the cold for 5+ hours. Cause with all the security and such you gotta be in your seat a good 60-90 min before kickoff! Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 09, 2013, 06:33:09 pm News flash: The weather isn't going to be any worse than what you get if the AFCCG is held in NE or the the AFCCG is held in Greenbay.
Actually the weather is typically nicer late Feb than late January. Football is played in the cold in front of fans. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MikeO on November 09, 2013, 07:45:28 pm News flash: The weather isn't going to be any worse than what you get if the AFCCG is held in NE or the the AFCCG is held in Greenbay. But there is that "CHANCE" NYC/NJ gets hit with a blizzard that one day. It has happened before in Feb and in March. Likely...probably not. But its not far fetched to think it won't happen. It very well could! Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Spider-Dan on November 10, 2013, 06:16:40 am I look at it as the same reason the NBA plays indoors: while the majority of basketball on earth is probably played outdoors, I don't think the ability to shoot a wet basketball in the rain is really a skill we want to measure.
When you have wet, sloppy conditions, half the game doesn't count. I like to see two teams play to their full potential, not a game where strategy is crippled because of the weather. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Landshark on November 10, 2013, 07:32:48 am Yes, because that is not part of the game and does not happen on the field. Not in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is supposed to be neutral so everything about it needs to be neutralized, including the elements. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: el diablo on November 10, 2013, 10:55:20 am Playing in the elements is part of the game. However from a TV standpoint, the elements create havoc. Havoc doesn't play well with the biggest TV event of the year. A winter crap storm would put an end to this outdoor, Northern city crap. Playing in Detroit, good idea. Its indoors. Playing in Foxboro, not so much.

It very well could! Yes, there could be a blizzard for the superbowl. But there could also be a blizzard for the AFCCG in Foxboro. We don't move all the January games to the south/dome, this isn't really any different. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 10, 2013, 05:28:27 pm I look at it as the same reason the NBA plays indoors: while the majority of basketball on earth is probably played outdoors, I don't think the ability to shoot a wet basketball in the rain is really a skill we want to measure. Nope the reason we play basketball indoors is because 1) we play it in the winter not the summer 2) comfort of the fans. We play hockey indoors too -- that is for the comfort of the fans. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Sunstroke on November 10, 2013, 05:36:26 pm Comparing the AFCCG to the Super Bowl is kind of a weak argument. People don't travel from all points of the world to see the AFCCG. They do for the Super Bowl though. Freezing rain, that's what I'm lighting a candle for. The most insane "nobody at the stadium will enjoy the experience" shitstorm of inclement weather. I want the entire city to be a miserable slushy Hell for an entire week, so that none of the SB visitors can do anything but sit in their hotel rooms and complain about the weather. Then...see ya back in Miami and Phoenix and Southern California and Texas, etc... for every Super Bowl for the next 20 years or so. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: MikeO on November 10, 2013, 05:55:19 pm Yes, there could be a blizzard for the superbowl. But there could also be a blizzard for the AFCCG in Foxboro. The Super Bowl is a global event where people travel from all over the world Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Sunstroke on November 10, 2013, 09:36:34 pm The Super Bowl is a global event where people travel from all over the world. Exactly. I've been blessed to have been able to live in 6 different countries overseas (UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Italy) and visit a number of others. No matter where outside the USA you go, if you ask someone from another country what they know of American sports, the first words out of their mouth will be "Super Bowl." In many countries, it is the only US sporting event that is televised. Do you really want to have the world see our players slipping and sliding around in a boring-ass snow game? That may be peachy for the hardcore old school football purists here at home, but it doesn't make for a gala spectacle by any means. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Spider-Dan on November 10, 2013, 09:47:43 pm Nope the reason we play basketball indoors is because 1) we play it in the winter not the summer 2) comfort of the fans. We play hockey indoors too -- that is for the comfort of the fans. Both hockey and basketball are played through June, so "comfort of the fans" is a pretty weak excuse. And playing ice hockey outdoors on Memorial Day might prove to be... challenging. The NHL has an outdoor game (the Winter Classic) which the players like. When the NBA tries to play preseason games outdoors, the players bitch endlessly about the wind. Comfort of the fans is not the motivating factor. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: masterfins on November 10, 2013, 10:46:10 pm If anything I feel sorry for the fans who pay big money for having to sit out in the cold for 5+ hours. Cause with all the security and such you gotta be in your seat a good 60-90 min before kickoff! I feel just the opposite of this. Most Super Bowl attendees aren't diehard fans, they are the rich people that show up to be seen so they can brag to their friends that they were at the game. That's why the tickets have become unaffordable for teams' blue collar fans to attend the Super Bowl. The NFL makes enough money off the fans all year, they ought to make more tickets available to season ticket holders (at regular prices) of the host city and the two teams playing in the game. Title: Re: The Pussification of the NFL Post by: Phishfan on November 11, 2013, 08:40:37 am Exactly.
