Title: What pissed me off most about the Bucs game.
Post by: Dave Gray on November 12, 2013, 11:21:37 am
I was pretty upset for most of the game, in some regard, but it started almost immediately, with Mike Pouncey punching another guy on our first drive.

To have a whole week of accusations of thuggery and stupidity and a lack of locker-room culture, to come out and have the de-facto leader of your broken offensive line punch another player, resulting in 3rd and 16....it just shows me that there is no discipline or mental focus.

From there, it was just a train wreck of a night.

^^^Agree.....what a dumbass play when the media is already looking at you. Complete lack of discipline. Do you blame the player, coaching staff or both for that though?

^ I suppose you blame both.  It's the players' responsibility to act accordingly.

But it's the coaches job to make sure that never EVER happens again.  It shows that there is no control.  Philbin is just standing out there, emotionless, watching it all happen.  I don't really blame him, though.  I think that if he had some strong players to lead by example, his job wouldn't be an uphill climb.

I mean, I credit Tannehill.  He's getting beaten up, but he generally says the right things and I think he's on the right path.  But who are our other leaders?  I like Hartline, but Wallace is a diva, Pouncey seems to be a thug.  ...who do we really have?

I was OK with losing Bush and (less so) with Long, but they seemed to be guys that led.  Now they're gone and need to be replaced -- not just the talent, but the character.

^ I agree with you it is on both.

The Players are adults and should be able to police themselves especially with all the drama of the last 2 weeks.

The Coaching staff needs to lead as there seems to be a lack of leadership as well. Maybe it is time to start penalizing these guys for these types of boneheaded plays.

I wish we were able to have a team that ran like this: I don't care how good you are or how much money you make, if you don't play smart and hard, you don't play for me.

That's it.

Touche.  This says a lot about the Dolphins overpriced defensive tackles who let Bobby Rainey and Brian Leonard run all over the goddamn field.

Pouncy is a idiot.  Hernandez  (a player on a division rival's team) and Pouncy comes out of it looking like more of a thug than any of the other players in NE.  How exactly did he managed that?

Incognito - has been kicked off of how many teams because of character issues?

Both those players are on your leadership counsel.

Other vets include a guy who bitches about how many passes he gets in a win.

You have a serious leadership void.

Philbin is just standing out there, emotionless

This has been my biggest complaint about him. It doesn't seem to matter the situation he just seems flat to me.

I don't see that as a weakness.

It is 3rd and 16.  A good coach isn't going to rant and rave and lose his head.  He is going to look on the play sheet for a play that has a chance at getting 16 yards.

However, if I was him, at that point I would have benched him for the rest of this possession and all of the next one.

^^^ Sure I see that but having your starting center walk off the field after taking the penalty (an uneccesary one) and not getting in his face is the weakness. Having Wheeler come off the field after a roughing the passer penalty gave the team a first down rather than forcing a punt and not saying a word to him is a weakness.

Also, who is calling the plays? Philbin or Sherman. We blame Sherman for his poor play calling but now you say Philbin should be looking up the play to call? It is one or the other making that call. Philbin likely has overisght but isn't the play caller.

Yeah, this is starting to get to me.  Sure you have to remain in control as a head coach, but sometimes you have to get in the players face, or get on the refs when they make bad calls.  If you don't speak up you will get more of the same and people will lose respect for you.

I wish we were able to have a team that ran like this: I don't care how good you are or how much money you make, if you don't play smart and hard well, you don't play for me.
Fixed.  And this already applies to every team in the league.

No one cares how smart or hard or gritty you are playing if you are getting beat by your man.

No, it is strength.

You sit him on the bench and don't say word.  Don't give him a chance to explain himself or beg to go back in.  Just let him sit on the bench and watch his team mates play, knowing you has the head coach have decided that having him on the field hurts the team.

I care.

I don't care that you're talented when you look like you aren't even trying.  You see Mike Wallace out there, half-assing blocks?  He doesn't even want to be there.  Pay someone 1/10th of the money who gives a shit.

This is partly why I would like to see some rookies/back-ups get some significant playing time the rest of this year.  At least they are hungry and will put forth some effort.

How about the bomb at the end of the game that he didn't even try to jump up and get.

Dion Jordan played 9 snaps last night (coaches don't like how he practices). YET, in his 9 snaps he made 3 impact plays. Tackle for loss and 2 QB hurries. Damn 33.3% of his snaps he made an impact yet he only got 9 snaps. THAT is beyond silly!

Yeah I don't get this.  The Fins moved up to get him and he rides the pine.  I thought early in the season that maybe he wasn't 100%, but now I really wonder who is keeping him out of games??  He should be in on practically every defensive down.

He isn't 100%. Fins said today he will have limited snaps the rest of the year

Why even bother then? This team is such a mess right now, their season is done anyway. Sit him and let him get healthy. When you play injured- not hurt, everybody plays hurt, but actually injured- you open yourself to further injury or other separate injury by compensating your body mechanics in other areas. That's normal human response; I see it every day with rehab patients in the PT clinic. They have nothing to gain by playing him if he's not healthy. -EK
