Looks like Ross was speaking before thinking again

The Dolphins have agreed to postpone their meeting with Jonathan Martin until after he speaks with NFL investigator Ted Wells, the team announced Tuesday.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross had planned to meet with Martin on Wednesday.

“Ted Wells and the National Football League have asked that we delay our meeting with Jonathan Martin until they have the opportunity to meet with him first," said Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel. "Out of deference to the process, we will cooperate with their request. We look forward to meeting with Jonathan directly as soon as possible."

Martin's meeting with Wells, who's leading the inquiry into the Dolphins' bullying scandal, is scheduled for Friday, ESPN has reported.

On Monday, Ross spoke in sympathetic tones of Martin, who has accused his teammates of mental and emotional abuse. He said he has been in contact with his offensive lineman via text message.

Ross said he planned to sit down with Martin with an open mind. He characterized the trip to California as a fact-finding mission.

“There are so many things that are being said and everything like that; I’m not going to deal with speculation," Ross said. "I’m going to meet with Jonathan Martin, face to face and hear what he has to say and then I’ll deal with it from there, if I can. So much has been said about a lot of different things, he said, she said and everything."

I don't know that this fits under "speaking before thinking..."  Ross wants obviously to get out in front of this thing.  However, the NFL, if they're really going to have an "independent investigation"  has to get involved first in all aspects...

I thought it was dumb. He should have talked to him a week or so ago if he wanted. At this point it only looks as if he is trying to taint the investigation regardless of if he was or not. He is fighting perception in this whole thing so he has to be very careful as to how the things he does can be perceived.

I also want to know why he doesn't or at least hasn't set up a meeting with Richie. You have to get both sides of the story in order to not look biased.

Makes sense to talk to Martin first.  Typically you get the side of the person make the allegations first, then hear from the person denying them. 

Can't ask Richie, "Did you do X, Y & Z?"  Until you know exactly what X, Y & Z is.   

Martin and his lawyer are meeting with Wells this morning. The meeting might already be over actually. There is no truth to the rumor that when Martin and his lawyer sat down at the table to answer questions Wells and his team stood up and left the room

But Wells did force Martin to pay for everyones lunch.   ;D

I saw lots of posts on Facebook about how he was booed a the game and how he brought Stanford down just like he did the Dolphins.

I guess it's good they didn't have signs that said "Martin is the reason gays shouldn't play in the NFL" or "Martin gives gays a bad name!" 

Jonathan Martin met with Wells and his team, then issued a statement saying he told them what happened in great detail but will not discuss it publicly at this time.

I wonder if Kim Jong Goodell is pulling the same stunt he pulled with Spygate, telling everyone involved to shut up.

Incognito didn't shut up. The Dolphins haven't shut up. And Incognito just gave details of his "grievance" this morning to Albert Breer of NFL Network.

The Dolphins did their own investigation the Miami Herald reported the other day (take it for what its worth its an internal investigation) and they cleared Philbin and Ireland as both not knowing prior to Martin walking out there was any issues. Does that mean both are safe job wise...no. Does that mean the Wells investigation will say something totally different....it could. But only Martin has shut up on this issue, nobody else.

P.S....Wells and his team of lawyers are meeting with the Dolphins player Monday and Tuesday. So if the team comes out flat again today then its probably not hard to figure out why. Lot on their plate right now

Adam Schefter is reporting on ESPN that Fins o-line coach Jim Turner is one of the key people of interest in the Wells investigation

Why wouldn't he be?  Supposedly it's an so-line issue and he's the closest coach.

He became the person of interest after Wells met with Martin

I think it woke TB up. They have been playing great ever since hearing they were gonna killed by Miami by the media.

TB was playing great before that. They had Seattle beat at Seattle the week before and blew a 21-0 lead.

Jonathan Martin’s attorney has alleged Martin endured a “malicious physical attack on him by a teammate." And in recent days, Wells has asked some Dolphins players whether they attended a party at the home of Mike Pouncey, where the alleged attack occurred, according to a friend of Martin.

That friend tells us Richie Incognito was the ring-leader that night, in 2012, and the “level of punching” of Martin “became more than playful.” Wells has been trying to get to the bottom of that physical attack allegation, among many others.

The friend said in general, Martin was harassed by more players than just Incognito and Pouncey and that “so much” hasn’t been reported regarding what Martin endured.

Pouncey is having a hell of a month.  Wouldn't be shocked if Ross shows him the door after the year with all of his "issues" rapidly growing off the field

What issues are growing? One whining player says the team bullied him? Mass police want to talk to him about another case?

Look at Tony Siragusas Facebook page. There's a video of him on top of a guy and punching him, forcing him to say sorry in a hotel room. That's how alpha men play. If you don't like it then don't hang out with them.

Just because you call them "issues" doesn't mean they are. Same as Martin and all his crying. Just because his lawyer said it happened that way doesn't mean it did.

I'm not sure why but you seem to jump everytime something new is written about the case. That doesn't seem typical of your previous behavior to me.

He has the Feds wanting to question him about a double murder and did he sell guns to the criminal illegally or have any role in gun trafficking  ....that's an issue. And in the 2nd biggest NFL story this year his house might have been the place where a player was beaten up by his teammates, including him putting a beating on Martin. These aren't little traffic violations or silly matters. 

I don't think Pouncey is in the running for the Walter Payton NFL Man of The Year award!!  And if Ross does end up cleaning house top to bottom, it ain't stopping with GM and coaches and just 1 player (Richie). He might let everyone involved in this go including Pouncey if his role in this included beating up Martin at his house!!! It just looks bad for the organization overall. Bad image. Bad guy. Remove it all together.  Not saying it will happen, but its possible! And the more and more that comes out on Pouncey he seems like a bad person in general!

I think Incognito and Pouncey will get off the martin thing pretty easily. Seems like some of the public get excited when they read about "a source" or whatever and jumps to conclusions.

I also think Ross panicked and let Richie walk. He's a bad owner. Has been since he got here. He means well but has no idea when to get involved and when no to  or even who is doing a good job or what is good publicity versus what is bad. Basically he is clueless.  If this had been New England then we wouldn't be hearing most of the crap that the Dolphins either leak or try to explain away. What comes out of the top is a really bad joke.

I have to laugh because I read this earlier. "As Wells tries to get to the truth, some Dolphins players may be circling the wagons.  One player who was the subject of frequent teasing from Incognito entered his meeting with Wells reluctant to implicate Incognito.

First off now frequent teasing has become bullying and secondly how do we know if no one admits it? Guilty your honor because we just know it!!!

I hate to say it but if Ross does "clean house" after nothing is found I will walk on this team until a new owner comes in.  That would be the equivalent to making Wanny the head coach again ... assuming that isn't what would happen under this guy.

^^^ Actually Ross gets a raw deal. He doesn't do the "sexy" thing like sign Tebow to sell tickets and force a player like that onto his coaches. He lets his football people make football decisions. And he is hands off when it comes to picking/signing players. He could have broken the bank any number of times and done something silly to sign Fisher or Harbaugh or lure Cowher or Gruden with some insane deal giving one person way too much power,  he has never done anything crazy in that regards. Flirted with it yes but was smart enough to back away. He isn't walking the sidelines hoovering over his coach like Arthur Blank, Jerry Jones, or Dan Snyder. Or putting unqualified family members in position of power like Jones does. He offered the  state of Florida a great deal for revamping the stadium, paying for damn near most of it himself...more than any owner would have.  Stephen Ross ain't the problem. Far from it.

TB has won 3 in a row since the Miami Media made them sound like a punching bag.

He has offered to pay very very little of it.  The only thing he is willing to spend money on regarding is it is lobbying and political donations to defeat politicians who oppose the public funding. 

As for more than any other owner....see Bob Kraft.

So they changed it from completely public funded to partial public funding with the rest being a 30 year interest free loan.

And if you believe that in 30 years the Dolphins won't threaten to leave if the loan isn't forgiven, then I have some swamp land to sell you. 

It's nice that you can predict the future, but that doesn't change the fact that you were wrong about him offering to pay very very little. He did offer.

I wasn't going to get into it cause its old news but yes Ross was paying more than half Hoodie was wrong.

And on Hoodies other  point, in 30 years after the deal is up if the Fins threaten to move so be it....hell in 30 years who knows what the landscape will be in the NFL for any team. 30 years is a long time away. But to know the Fins are locked into South Florida/Miami for 30 years would have been nice peace of mind. Unfortunate that it never happened.

He has offered very very little cash.  Taxpayers foot the almost entire bill, he pays part back in the 30 years interest free. 

That's not how loans work. Since it's interest free, he'll be paying 1/30th of the (principal) loan amount every year.

He might threaten to move the team if the remainder of the loan isn't forgiven, but presumably such a contract would include guarantees forcing the team to stay for the period (with a possible buy-out clause).

1) In 30 years Ross will be dead so this notion if the state took the deal in 30 years Ross would "threaten to then move" is silly.

2) Part of the deal is the Dolphins wouldn't have left the site of Sun Life Stadium for 30 years whether Ross owned them or they were sold  after his death. That was iron-clad.

It was a sweetheart deal offered by Ross and a few state politicians (not the people) said no. Now, Ross will push for a whole new stadium all-together in a couple years where he then WILL threaten to move the team and it will cost the state and tax payers MORE $$$$. A bad deal for the citizens of Florida but oh well, they voted those people in office they gotta live with them!
