Title: McKinnie and Fins void final year of his deal Post by: MikeO on November 29, 2013, 11:26:30 am http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/dolphins-blog/sfl-bryant-mckinnie-and-dolphins-void-final-year-of-his-contract-20131127,0,6968770.story
Miami and McKinnie agreed to void the final year of his 2 year deal. So a month from now when the Fins season end they aren't tied down with McKinnie for another year. Now he hasn't been awful and I wouldn't be shocked to see Miami try and re-sign him to a 1 year deal at a much lower price. Especially if McKinnie would take a role as a back-up swing tackle. He hasn't been awful since coming to Miami. Not great, not a guy you want to keep as a starter at LT....but someone worth having around if he is willing to take on that role. That said, it would be nice if we had SOMEONE up front to block, tackle, or just get a little in the way of a pass rush. The line is pretty bad now, but at least there are 5 bodies up there taking up space. Well, 4 and a half. Clabo doesn't take up a full o-line space. We still struggle with run blocking, but I don't see the sacks and passing pressure coming from that side. I would be happy to have him for a few years while we sort out a younger option at that position.

He's got one, maybe two more years left Title: Re: McKinnie and Fins void final year of his deal Post by: fyo on December 03, 2013, 05:37:21 pm He's got one, maybe two more years left Can't help but wonder what he's looking for in terms of deal. A final payday? Title: Re: McKinnie and Fins void final year of his deal Post by: MikeO on December 04, 2013, 08:37:11 am Can't help but wonder what he's looking for in terms of deal. A final payday? probably a big 1 year deal at this point Title: Re: McKinnie and Fins void final year of his deal Post by: el diablo on December 04, 2013, 08:42:18 am Any veteran over 30, that is not a QB is an idiot for believing that a 1 yr/ big pay day is out there.

I mean "big" is relative. He is looking for a desperate team in need of a stop-gap tackle so he can maximize his earning potential Title: Re: McKinnie and Fins void final year of his deal Post by: fyo on December 04, 2013, 09:49:45 am I mean "big" is relative. He is looking for a desperate team in need of a stop-gap tackle so he can maximize his earning potential There are lots of bad offensive lines out there this year. One of them is bound to feel like they are contenders and be willing to offer him a nice chunk of money. Miami has enough cap room to go shopping for a long-term answer at LT if they want though. Having the money means nothing without available players. The only team I know of that drops quality left tackles in this league is us. We need to draft and develop a player. McKinnie allows that to happen. Title: Re: McKinnie and Fins void final year of his deal Post by: MikeO on December 06, 2013, 02:04:40 pm Having the money means nothing without available players.
