Title: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: EDGECRUSHER on December 29, 2013, 03:59:32 pm Hope you and Bill O'Brien get along well.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on December 29, 2013, 04:06:25 pm Bridgewater thinking of returning to school. Would be silly but he might.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: EDGECRUSHER on December 29, 2013, 04:16:58 pm He won't, Houston is a great fit for him. The team is actually pretty talented, they just needed a QB and new coach. If he opts for the draft, they will have both. I can see him pulling a Luck in Indy, only actually being as good as their record.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on December 29, 2013, 10:39:28 pm The top overall pick in the draft or go back to school and finish my degree? What would you guys choose?
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Cathal on December 29, 2013, 10:48:23 pm ^^^ anyone who doesn't take the money is crazy. You can finish your schooling at anytime. Take the money and live comfortably.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: EDGECRUSHER on December 29, 2013, 10:55:33 pm Let's ask Matt Barkley what he would do as soon as he is finished getting Gatorade for Nick Foles.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on December 30, 2013, 06:04:12 am The top overall pick in the draft or go back to school and finish my degree? What would you guys choose? Luck was gonna be the 1st overall pick in 2011....went back to school. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on December 30, 2013, 06:45:56 am Luck was gonna be the 1st overall pick in 2011....went back to school. He's very Lucky (pun intended). The same can't be said for guys like Matt Barkley and Landry Jones Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Spider-Dan on December 30, 2013, 11:17:01 am Luck could have taken 2011 off and he still would have went no later than #3. He was already the Anointed One.
Take the money, stupid. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 30, 2013, 11:32:04 am There is some logic to saying in school. Pete Carrol was right about Sanchez, he would have benefited with another year of college football, before attempting the transition to the pros.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Spider-Dan on December 30, 2013, 12:37:00 pm So if he had stayed in college another year, then maybe he would have been made it to back-to-back conference championship games?
Sanchez is just about the best example of someone who robbed the bank by coming out early. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Tenshot13 on December 30, 2013, 12:44:52 pm So if he had stayed in college another year, then maybe he would have been made it to back-to-back conference championship games? JaMarcus Russell disagrees. Sanchez is just about the best example of someone who robbed the bank by coming out early. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Sunstroke on December 30, 2013, 12:56:49 pm JaMarcus Russell disagrees. I still remember people getting all hyped up when JaMarcus Russell threw a 70-yard pass from one knee. I tried to tell folks that arm strength means nothing if the QB is so brain-dead that he needs a cheat sheet to spell his own name. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Spider-Dan on December 30, 2013, 01:15:53 pm JaMarcus Russell disagrees. That presumes that Russell would have made less money by staying in for another year, or landing in a less-ideal situation.Russell and Leaf stole money, sure. But Sanchez uniquely benefited from coming out early and landing in a situation to artificially inflate his value. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on December 31, 2013, 10:29:56 pm Houston just reached an agreement with former Pats assistant and current Penn State coach Bill O'Brien. That's now a guarantee that Bridgewater is going to Houston. If there is anyone who can recognize the bake of a franchise quarterback, it's him.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on December 31, 2013, 10:30:47 pm Houston just reached an agreement with former Pats assistant and current Penn State coach Bill O'Brien. That's now a guarantee that Bridgewater is going to Houston. If there is anyone who can recognize the bake of a franchise quarterback, it's him. Far from a guarantee. They could sign someone like Cutler in free agency then draft Clowney Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on January 01, 2014, 01:59:25 am Far from a guarantee. They could sign someone like Cutler in free agency then draft Clowney I doubt that. The really good quarterbacks are never allowed to hit the free agent market barring some calamity Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: el diablo on January 01, 2014, 09:43:11 am It's not that Cutler isn't worth it. Cutler wouldn't agree to it. Chicago would be smart to sign Cutler and draft an Aaron Murray in the later rounds. Houston should do the same if Cutler becomes available. If Houston can't get a veteran QB in FA or a trade, then should look at Bridgewater.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on January 01, 2014, 09:48:42 am It's not that Cutler isn't worth it. Cutler wouldn't agree to it. Cutler has no say in if he is franchised tagged or not Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on January 01, 2014, 10:12:45 am Cutler has no say in if he is franchised tagged or not Not necessarily. There may be a clause in his contract that prevents him from being franchised. And Cutler isn't exactly elite. I wouldn't throw big money at him if he hits the open maker Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: el diablo on January 01, 2014, 11:08:05 am Cutler has no say in if he is franchised tagged or not True. He has no say in the application. He has one in the acceptance. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on January 01, 2014, 11:21:37 am True. He has no say in the application. He has one in the acceptance. Not really. If he wants to play he signs the 1 year deal and plays. Your not saying he is going to sit out a full season are you? That is beyond silly Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Sunstroke on January 01, 2014, 11:50:26 am Cutler doesn't have any non-franchise clause in his contract, at least according to comments from the Bears GM, though he didn't seem like he wanted to go that route. http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/32202/20131221// (http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/32202/20131221//) Additionally, despite Josh McCown playing so well as Jay's sub this season, Chicago really botched his one-year contract so that they don't have a team option, so he is a UFA this offseason. If Chicago had added one dollar to his contract, or even a few unattainable bonuses, they could have kept him at pretty much the bare minimum cost. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on January 02, 2014, 11:45:17 am Cutler just re-upped with the Bears for seven years.
Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: el diablo on January 02, 2014, 12:04:54 pm Cutler just re-upped with the Bears for seven years. That couldn't have happened. Because I was told that he was going into free agency.... Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on January 02, 2014, 12:10:10 pm That couldn't have happened. Because I was told that he was going into free agency.... I just said they weren't going to franchise tag him, and they didn't ;) Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: el diablo on January 02, 2014, 01:27:50 pm I just said they weren't going to franchise tag him, and they didn't ;) Just like, I never said that you were the one who said that. ;) Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: Landshark on January 02, 2014, 03:42:26 pm I just said they weren't going to franchise tag him, and they didn't ;) So now that he won't be hitting the free agent market, the odds of Bridgewater landing in Houston just increased tremendously. Title: Re: Welcome to Houston, Teddy Bridgewater Post by: MikeO on January 02, 2014, 03:46:52 pm So now that he won't be hitting the free agent market, the odds of Bridgewater landing in Houston just increased tremendously. sure did |
