Title: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: MikeO on March 17, 2014, 11:52:39 am http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24488842/report-nfl-playoffs-likely-to-expand-to-14-teams-in-2015
I hate this but the NFL wants to keep growing and expanding Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Landshark on March 17, 2014, 12:09:56 pm I'd put it to 16. No first round byes for the top seeds

Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: MikeO on March 17, 2014, 02:23:27 pm More football...good. Less football...bad. They just watered down the regular season. More meaningless games and games where teams will rest players late in the year since they are "already in" Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: masterfins on March 17, 2014, 05:56:33 pm Great, now we can start seeing some 8-8, and maybe some 7-9, teams in the playoffs.
Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: BigDaddyFin on March 18, 2014, 09:53:07 am How the hell does 14 teams even work?
Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Phishfan on March 18, 2014, 09:59:17 am How the hell does 14 teams even work? The article explains it. One additional Wild Card. One bye for the top team. 2v7, 3v6, 4v5. Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Thundergod on March 18, 2014, 10:28:17 am Terrific this is going to be like hockey now. >:D ...and basketball. Great, now we can start seeing some 8-8, and maybe some 7-9, teams in the playoffs. Agreed Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Spider-Dan on March 18, 2014, 11:37:36 am Is it worth seeing an additional 8-8 team in the playoffs if it means that we don't have multiple 10-win teams sitting on the couch?
Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: el diablo on March 18, 2014, 01:11:17 pm Why don't they institute a round robin round for the conference playoff teams. Then, the top two teams in each conference move onto a best of 3 series. Then the Super Bowl becomes the Super Best of Five. This way they could rival March Madness.
Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Spider-Dan on March 18, 2014, 01:20:06 pm Isn't that like saying that if GM changed a policy or two, they could "rival" Nissan?
The Super Bowl is already much bigger than March Madness. Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: el diablo on March 18, 2014, 05:40:50 pm Isn't that like saying that if GM changed a policy or two, they could "rival" Nissan? The Super Bowl is already much bigger than March Madness. It's not question of size. The NFL restructured it's offseason to stay in the national conversation. So why not extend the postseason to achieve the same result? Only with more relevance. It's always about bigger & better, right? Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Landshark on March 18, 2014, 06:51:28 pm More revenue for the TV stations too. The Wild Card round will now have six games. One game can be played at noon, one at 4 pm and one at 8 pm each day. This will give NBC and ESPN an opportunity to air those games

Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: BigDaddyFin on March 18, 2014, 08:30:37 pm Is there a dislike button I can just start pushing?
Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Spider-Dan on March 19, 2014, 11:46:23 am Actually no. the 2 new games will be on Friday and Monday. Um, where'd you hear this Friday stuff?Seems to me the logical choice is 4:30p/8p Saturday, 12:30p/4:30p/8:30p (Thanksgiving schedule) Sunday, and the normal Monday night game. Title: Re: 14 team playoffs probably in 2015 Post by: Dave Gray on March 19, 2014, 12:01:39 pm I think that this is a good change. Yes, it does water things down some, but because you have automatic bids and seeding for division winners, it seems like each year, a good team is at home, in lieu of a crap team getting in with a home game.
I also never really liked the two byes thing. I am hoping that the elite teams will fight for this bye week and keep things interesting. Seems to me the logical choice is 4:30p/8p Saturday, 12:30p/4:30p/8:30p (Thanksgiving schedule) Sunday, and the normal Monday night game. It was reported a little while back the NFL wants playoff games on Monday and Friday nights. So it's an entire NFL playoff weekend. Plus 2 more prime time games which get more in advertising dollars for the league |
