With the recent news about the Field of Dreams anniversary, we started talking about other older movies that maybe reflected on, reminded us of, or was literally us as youngsters.

I've always connected with Goonies. Heck, some of the teams i've played on have been very Bad News Bears.

How about you guys?

Goonies was big for me.  Also, a movie called Monster Squad.

When I got into high school, there's a movie called Dazed and Confused that I felt captured a group dynamic pretty well.  The Wonder Years on TV was another one that captured the feelings of being a kid pretty well.

Karate Kid.  For sure.  Great story, great message.

+1 for Goonies as well.

Favorite movie and it gets quoted by a few of my friends frequently.

Of all the films to remake, Monster Squad seems like it'd make a bazillion dollars.

The outsiders. It wasn't my life, but I connected with the characters. Amazing movie.

I would list this as well, but it would be more of a childhood memory via book, rather than movie. I probably read The Outsiders 2-3 times before the movie was ever released. The movie was pretty decent as well though...

If I were to pick a couple of movies that fit for me, it would probably be two movies from '79. The first was an obscure movie called "Over the Edge." Noteworthy only for being Matt Dillon's first screen role, it was about disgruntled kids in a suburban community who take over the town.

The second gem from '79 was the gang classic "Warriors." Just an all-around awesome film, and despite not being an inner city gang member growing up, I always related well to the "wrongly persecuted, gotta stay alive and prove your innocence" plot theme.

Not really related to what we're talking about, but in the vein as Warriors was Red Dawn.

OMG ... you are one of the few people who remember "Over the Edge"!!! I even brought it up this weekend and the other 45 year old had no idea abou it.  Every time I hear Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" I can't help but think of that movie and that is why i brought it up. I was 10 then and my life couldn't have related more. I grew up listening to Bob Seger's "Sunspot Baby" under the black light and glow in the dark posters. Sex (even at a young age), drugs and rock and roll were prevalent and we had very little parental supervision. It was easy to relate.

Not so such positive childhood memories but definitely reminds me how much I have to be grateful for.

Those are three movies that always take me back to being a kid. Who could ever forget Luther clanging bottles together and yelling " Warriors ... come out to plaaayayay" ? So much that our "gang" was called the Seminole Warriors in high school in honor of the Warriors. 

I can't think of too many movies that stir my childhood memories.  But the old Christmas cartoons that they show every year definitely bring back a lot of childhood memories. 

Another vote for "Over the Edge", great portrayal of the mid-late 70's scene. I'm so glad I grew up then and not now. If I could go back I would. Warriors, Phantasm, Capricorn One, Dawn of the Dead, and I Spit on Your Grave were all good movies from that era. I also remember Time Bandits, it was cool, although it was a few years later..

Friday night, I went to Solar Movie and watched Over the Edge again. That movie is still just as cool as it ever was, and the soundtrack had me constantly thinking "how long has it been since I heard that song?"

I watch The Warriors roughly once a year, on general principle. I also added the Eagles song "In the City" to one of my main youtube playlists, just because of this movie.

The Blues Brothers and The Jerk were integral parts of my childhood.  I cannot imagine my life without the influences of these great comedies. 

I was in high school/college when the "brat pack" movies were coming out (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire), so I could relate to a lot of the themes of those movies.  Also a fan of Dazed & Confused and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Breakfast Club and Fast Times, 20-ish years later, are still among my all-time favorite - and most quoted - comedies. Fast Times also holds the distinction of being the first movie I saw in German, with English subtitles.

Lot's of great quotes but let's be honest ... Phoebe Cates brought many of us through puberty and beyond!!!

It has certainly given the song "Moving in Stereo" a special place in my crotch...um...heart.

I probably watched Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze maybe 50 times as a kid.  We would watch it and rewind it immediately after it was over and watch it again. 

Yeah, her image from this movie is burned into my brain.
